Well done to Tyler, Joseph, Tiare, Alize, Nicky and Laine who all led our school powhiri with tenacity, courage and pride. Nga mihi nui koutou (huge thanks/praise to you). UP AND COMING EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Most students are going to be attending some form of extra curricular activity in the coming weeks. Please make sure you have paid for these as soon as possible or contacted the office to let us know how you will pay. As you will be aware the government DOES NOT fund at high enough levels to cover all the costs of extra curricular activities. However as a school we do budget and fund raise to subsidise most excursions and trips. This does mean we ask parents for a contribution towards the activities. We are aware that this is an expensive time of year for everyone right on the back of Christmas and summer holidaying, however we love to see all students taking part, so if you are having trouble making ends meet please contact us at school so we can make arrangements. Quite often we have families contributing extra to help out other families, there are always options. YEAR 5 & 6 LAKES RANCH CAMP We're all on track for a fantastic week in Rotorua at Lakes Ranch. Keep an eye out for extra information via email, text and newsletters for updates. There is a parent help meeting TODAY 5.15pm in Rm 2. Please feel free to come along. Please let the office or Rachael Coll know. YEAR 3 & 4 SURF N TURF This is coming up fast - exciting times ahead for us all! ANNUAL CONSENT FORMS Attached is an Annual Consent Form seeking your permission for a number of school activities. During the school year, pupils of Waihi East School participate in class and school trips. We often seek your permission for various school activities and sometimes have difficulty getting notices and letters back from some children. Therefore we ask parents to complete an Annual Consent Form. All trips/activities will comply with Waihi East School’s Education Outside the Classroom Policy [this can be sited at the office]. Consent for overnight/out of district trips will still be required. Notification of all class trips will be made in advance. This notification will be in the school newsletters or separate notice. Please see Sharon in the office if you would like to sort through these.
SCHOOL INFORMATION INFORMATION ON YOUR CHILDREN The school keeps certain information on your children and it is most important that we are updated if any of the following details change: Phone no’s, address, email, doctor, medical problems, change of caregivers, emergency contact (which we use if we cannot get anyone at home). Please call into the office or send a note with any changes. We have enclosed the information we have on your contact details. Please contact the office if it requires updating. HEALTH MATTERS AND ALLERGIES Parents are asked to write a note or speak with the child's teacher if there are health matters or allergies such as bee stings that may seriously affect your child. Wherever necessary, medication, named and with full instructions affixed, will be kept in the locked medical cupboard at school. The school needs a medication consent form for any child that staff may have to administer medication to. If your child is one of these, see Sharon in the office. Parents of children who have grommets in their ears or who have ear infection problems are asked to discuss problems associated with swimming with the teacher. In such cases tight fitting bathing caps can be a partial solution. [Any wounds should be covered for swimming]. UNIFORMS At Waihi East our expectation is school uniform to be worn. Clothing may be supplied if your child is often out of uniform. Remember our bottoms are to be black, navy or denim, minimum of mid thigh in length. Please name ALL uniform, togs, towels, shoes and lunch boxes for ease of returning to the correct student. PAYMENTS We realise that money can be a wee bit tight at this time of year. To make the start of year slightly easier, the administration team can help you set up an automatic payment. Our bank account number for all payments is 031575 0042679-01. Eft-pos is also available. SWIMMING Instruction has commenced and we expect every child to take part in the daily lessons unless they are medically unfit. In such cases parents are asked to send note. Swimming is fun, a life skill and a great way to cool down in this hot weather. EX STUDENTS DONATE $$$ TO CAMP A HUGE Thank you to Meg and Maisie T who have run a fundraising cake stall over the summer holidays to help to send a student, who is having trouble making ends meet, to our senior camp this year
SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS—THURSDAYS Thursday is school newsletter day and a newsletter is issued every Thursday - ask your child for it each Wednesday or check it out on our school website. Usually school newsletters are given to the eldest child in a family or the only child going to East School. These newsletters are the main means of communicating with parents and I would ask that parents read them carefully. Quite often a reply slip is attached and it is most helpful if we get an early response to such requests. Many thanks! We appreciate the support of those who pay for adverts on the newsletter. Please support them with your patronage. If you would like your newsletter emailed to you please email Sharon in the office. PUPIL ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL So there are no doubts as to a child's whereabouts, parents are asked to inform the school whenever their child is going to be absent. If the child is away for several days it is only necessary to let the school know on the first day of absence. It is still appropriate to send a note of explanation or make contact with the teacher after a lengthy absence. On the first day of absence the school can be notified in either of the following ways: 1) by telephoning - 863 8693 2) by sending a note to the child's teacher via another child. 3) sending a text to 021 0258 4817 Sharon or another staff member will take the message and note it on a form that is circulated to all classes by 9.30am each day. Note: It is a legal requirement for schools to be advised of children's absences. ‘LIFE CHOICES’ opt in form We have a CRE* team starting a weekly program from February 10th (this Friday). The programme teaches children about the bible and Christian beliefs (whilst accepting that there are other beliefs), learning to understand the way we live by our beliefs and helping the children develop their own beliefs and values. The programme reinforces the values taught in our curriculum, like respect, excellence, fairness and honesty. It’s a fun half hour program including songs and/or games! The programme runs on Fridays 12 noon-12.30pm and will be supervised by a staff member. THANKS TO OUR GREAT SUPPORTERS We are selling Advertising for this page again this year. Solid ads (no changes) will be $180 for the whole year and editable ads will be $200. Income from the ads will be used to support the Duffy Books in homes programme that we have at Waihi East school. Please see the office if you are interested in placing an ad on the back of our weekly newsletter. DUFFY BOOKS IN HOMES Waihi East School is lucky to be a Duffy school. We appreciate all our sponsors. Each year over 100,000 students take ownership of 650,000 brand new books an extraordinary amount that continues to enhance literacy skills as our Duffy kids grow into adults who inspire a love of reading in their own children.
