WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 20/2015

22 July 2015

Kia ora Welcome back to school. I hope you enjoyed spending time with friends and whanau over this cold holiday break. The cooler weather continues. We are encouraging children to wear their fleece jackets and shoes. I am not winning on this, maybe old people like me only feel the cold! We have a number of staff changes before the end of the year. Firstly Katie Sinnott is off overseas from the 14th of August. Katie has been an asset to our school and we wish her well with her time in the UK. Luckily, Jo Gilbert will take up this position from Katie. Katie and Jo are doing a transition time over the next few weeks– teaching together and building relationships. Thank goodness for resilient children, room nine certainly have had a number of teachers- all very cool and talented. Thanks for being so understanding. Mrs. Rachael Coll will join our team at the beginning of term 4. Rachael will teach in Room nine and hold the position of senior school DP. This week Sue Lowry, Education officer with St John’s will be on site to teach preparedness for an emergency. Each class will have a session. Check out what your tamariki has learnt. To subsidize the cost of this important programme, we are holding a mufti day this Friday (24th July). Please be generous with your gold coin donation. The NED Show is coming to Waihi East School on the 28th of July. It is a feel good educational programme that has the important message - Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do Your Best. There is no cost for this awesome show however we will be selling ‘NED’ flash-as yoyos at school after their visit. My sales team will sell these yoyos next week before and after school. I hope you support this cool event. Lastly a huge thank you to Ross Cowan, our caretaker. Our school looks amazing due to his efforts while we were away on holiday. Nga mihi nui Emily (ehargreaves@east.school.nz)

My Opinion: (Persuasive writing from Rm 2) Children should NOT be allowed to play with matches. Reason 1: It could light your house on fire. Reason 2: You could burn yourself. Reason 3: You could kill yourself and your family. Conclusion: I believe that children should not play with matches because it is dangerous and it wasn’t made as a toy.
