Kia ora We are having an awesome time celebrating Matariki. Kahurangi was a stunning day– workshops followed up by a Pacific Rim performance. This was hugely popular and made a massive impact on our tamariki. A huge thank you to Team Waihi East for gifting the funds to allow this event to be run at our school. Yesterday the hikoi was a fabulous community celebration. Thank you all for your support with supervision and transport.

Together We Rise Above and Shine.

The school is holding a Pacific Rim Whanau Day on the 24th of June. During this day each class will make kai from a Pacific Rim country, then perform an item (11.30am kick off) followed by the sharing of kai.

This is an event not to be missed.

Congratulations to Tiare P who was placed 4th in the Western Bay of Plenty Cluster Cross Country. This was an awesome effort.

We have easiyo sachets available to whanau who like to make yoghurt at home. If you would like some, please let Sharon or Lisa know. They will pop them into your child's bag.

Please take extra care when parking around the school. A number of staff and parents have noticed scraps and dings this year. This is not a nice thing to face. Thank you for helping to respect other peoples property. Briar and I look forward to seeing you at the school gate, our road crossing area at the front of the school.

School Notices BAKE SALE TEAM EAST WHANAU are holding a bakesale outside the school office from 2.30pm –3pm on Friday 19th after assembly.

They are raising funds for kapahaka uniforms. Any donations of baking appreciated. Please bring to the office Friday morning.

If we have no documentation and we have an outbreak, health authorities will send home all students who do not have the correct vaccination evidence in place.

BRING MIKE BACK! Following on from some fantastic feedback and requests after our Mike Scaddan workshops, we are looking to bring Mike back. We are considering the option of offering an evening session which will be open to all schools and our wider community. Details as follows: When: Tuesday 11 August 7.00—8.30pm Where: Waihi East School Hall Who: All Schools and Waihi Community Cost: $12 per person. We played with my netball. It is pink, white and black. My mum threw higher than a bird. I threw it higher than the goal post. My mum said good work Tegan.

By Tegan O-F, Rm 4, Age 7 This motorbike is a Honda. A Honda 200 can go fast like a tiger. A Honda is cool because it can go up and down hills. When I’m on a two wheeler it is exciting and it makes me feel happy.

By Casey M, Rm 4, Age 7 Once upon a time there was a rock. The rocks name was Rock Dock. He is a kind rock he saves the world. He was on top of a mountain and he saw a paper girl. She helped flowers grow. It was a very sunny day. Rock Dock wanted to help her. In the distance he saw a problem. Scissors was coming and he was cutting down the trees. Then the mountain broke. Rock Dock fell down the mountain. Rock Dock came tumbling down like a barrel out of control. When he got down the mountain Rock Dock and paper lady went to stop scissors. They got to scissors and paper charged in like a bull but paper was to wobbly. Then Rock Dock charged in like a strike of lightening. Then Rock Dock killed scissors but paper didn’t survive. Rock Dock carried paper to the secret garden and she came back to life but Rock Dock crumbled into broken rocks and paper was sad. Paper got all the rocks and built Rock Dock again.

Details as follows: Mon 6th July: Year 5-8 Tues 7th July: Year 7-13 Time: 11am-3.30pm Cost: $15 per player per day What to bring: Sports shoes, comfy clothes for practicing in, packed lunch and water Registrations: Contact East school office for a registration form SEASONS SUPPORT PROGRAMME Seasons is a peer support programme for children who are missing someone from their daily life because of changes at home - such as parents separating, or a family member having died, moved away or gone to prison, or a parent who works away from home for extended periods of time. The groups are small and give a chance for the children to talk together about their experiences of loss and change. Seasons have been running in Waihi at schools during school time and after school. We are now taking enrolments for term 3 2015, so if you think this would suit your child please call the Season’s Co-ordinator (Deanna) on 022 083 5478.
