This 3.5-mile trek is a superb way to enjoy a beautiful high-mountain summer day among Arizona’s ponderosa pines and pinion juniper woodlands. A little further east of Pinetop, an out-and-about adventure at Lyman Lake will take you back in time by walking in the footsteps of prehistoric inhabitants and seeing the artwork they left behind. On Peninsula Petroglyph Trail you can take a gentle, quarter-mile, self-guided hike to get a firsthand look at the petroglyphs and interpretive signs left by the early Hopi occupants. It’s truly a walk back in history.
