Type BPZ - MPZ

INTRODUCTION The BPZ is a direct-operated, spring set point pressure regulator, used for supplying small industries, commercial business, residential complexes and small antenna networks.

Two versions exist: • BPZ VSX2 for an outlet pressure of 21 and 27 mbar, • MPZ VSX2 for an outlet pressure of 300 mbar.

The MPZ version is especially adapted for supplying boilers.

Both versions are equipped with the same balanced valve plug which assures a constant outlet pressure level even in the case of inlet pressure variations.

They can be equipped with a slam shut type VSX2 LP which permits the gas flow to be cut off rapidly and totally in the case of over or under outlet pressure.

As a standard feature theBPZ and MPZ are equipped with a mechanical dampener and a travel stop for the case of over pressure.

DESCRIPTION The BPZ-MPS consists of: A version without an integral slam shut: • A body, a diaphragm actuator, a bottom • A diaphragm-balanced valve plug, an orifice, a mechanism assembly - A Pa set point adjustment spring.

A version with an integral slam shut type VSX2LP: • A body, a diaphragm actuator • A diaphragm-balanced valve plug, an orifice, a mechanism assembly

• An integral bypass slam shut in the place of the bottom (see NTAVSX2) - A Pa set point adjustment spring - A tripping spring set to max.

- A tripping spring set to min.

Orientation and regulator impulse line The actuator can be orientated to 360° from 90° to 90° The slam shut can be oriented to 360°.

OPERATION The BPZ - MPZ is a pressure regulator with expansion achieved by a balanced valve plug and pressure control by a directoperated actuator.

The expansion is achieved between the regulator valve plug3 and the orifice1.

Tight shutoff is ensured by the regulator plug disc 2 pushing against the orifice1.

Pressure control is achieved through the diaphragm6 which receives on the one side the outlet pressurePa, and on the other side the spring load, adjusted to the desired value by the set point spring 7.

The quality of the pressure control is achieved by the set point spring 7 whose characteristics are grouped with those of the regulator diaphragm6.

Accuracy is ensured, independent of inlet and outlet pressure, by the balance of the valve plug3/stem 9 assembly.

A mechanism8 equipped with lateral springs compensates variations of the set point spring7 force.

The regulator can be equipped with a slam shut10 using a release relay 11 type VSX2.

Due to the force of the spring7 and the mechanism8, the regulator OPENS.

In the case of brief over pressure, the diaphragm plate 6 will travel up to the actuator cap5 without any leak or deterioration of the components (disconnecting spring 4).

CLOSING

OPENING

As the flow decreases, the outlet pressure increases on the outlet side of the regulator.

As the flow increases, the outlet pressure decreases on the outlet side of the regulator and on the regulator diaphragm 6.

The force of the pressure on the regulator diaphragm6 is overcome by that of the spring7, the regulator CLOSES. 4

All interventions on the equipment should only be performed by qualified and trained personnel.

• The regulator is installed on clean horizontal or vertical pipeline. Version with slam shut, the release relay can be situated towards the top or towards the bottom.

• Install according to the direction of the fluid flow (arrow).

• When assembling with adjacent elements care must be taken not to create pressure force on the body and the assembling elements (bolts, O-rings, flanges) should be compatible with the geometry and working conditions of the equipment.

• Version with integral slam shut, connect the safety manometric box (IS) to the impulse at 4D on a straight run of the outlet pipe.

• It is recommended to separate the slam shut impulse line (IS) from that of the actuator (ISM). Do not connect the impulses on the lower generator line.

• Version with integral slam shut, it is recommended to install an isolation valve (R1) and an atmospheric valve (R2), which are useful for tripping and verifications.

• Connect the actuator (ISM) to the impulse at 4D minimum on a straight run of the outlet pipe.

• It is recommended to install a servicing valve (R3) on the outlet pipeline to facilitate adjustments and bleeding off to the atmosphere.

• Verify that the inlet side is protected by an appropriate device(s) to avoid exceeding the limits of utilization (PS, TS).

• Verify that the limits of utilization correspond to the appropriate operating conditions.

• Version without slam shut, verify that a pressure limiting device on the outlet side of the regulator guarantees a pressure limit < or equal to the actuator PS. • Fire, seismic and lightening are not taken into consideration for standard regulators. If required, a special product selection and/or specific calculations may be supplied according to specific requirements.

• Version with slam shut, verify that the springs correspond to the appropriate operating conditions on the outlet side of the regulator.

REASSEMBLY • Perform the above operations in reverse order (respect tightening torques) • Change diaphragms every 6 years or less depending on condition • Replace O-rings at each disassembly • Lubricate screws before tightening • Lightly lubricate O-rings (silicone grease) • Lightly lubricate the valve plug stem (silicone grease) • Lightly lubricate the slam shut valve plug stem (silicone grease) • Lubricate springs (molydbenum graphite grease)
