Introduction Hey Division 2 of the Rocky Mountain District! I am Emily Kingsford, your new Lieutenant Governor (LTG). As a Junior, I attend Union Colony Preparatory School in Greeley, Colorado. I am so excited for all the opportunities this coming year is going to bring. It is one of my goals to change the world and I believe that we can accomplish this together. One service project at a time can make this world a better place. In the upcoming year I plan to unite all the schools together and do a couple huge service projects together. Please feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, concerns, or even if you just want to talk. I can’t wait to get to know all of you. If you would please follow the division Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages for updates about upcoming events that surely would benefit us both. Please encourage your club members to do so as well. How would you guys feel about a division wide, meet and greet before school year ends? We can talk more about this through email or any of the social media that works best for you. I am always open to new ideas and ways to unify our clubs and communities.

Club Mission and Vision As many of you may know, Key Club International is not just some club that people join because they want to show off their really old keys. Key Club is a place where everyone is accepted no matter what their background is or what is going on in their life. As an international foundation we have a Vision, a Mission, and four Core Values. Members base their leadership and service on these principles. The Vision that we have as a club is, “We are caring and competent servant leaders transforming communities worldwide.” Our mission is “An international, student-led organization

providing its members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership.” Lastly, four of the words that we as a club live by are our Core Values: Caring, Character Building, Inclusiveness and Leadership.” I personally invite each of you and your clubs to pursue each of these things. When these are accomplished, we are one step closer to changing the world together.

Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is a fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. They use funds to help Key Clubs and members within serve the world by providing grants for their service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education . The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships . YOF grants can help you take action. I invite you to look around and identify the action that needs to be taken to make your school, community or world a better place for all.

International Convention This summer is the 101-year anniversary of Kiwanis International (ICON). ICON is in Atlanta, Georgia this year. Come celebrate and vote for our new International Executive Board members with us on July 3rd through July 10th. Please feel free to contact me, your LTG, if you have any questions or if you have any Key Clubbers interested in attending the International Convention. The prices are online along with your paperwork that is needed for registration. Don’t let the price scare you, there are deals that can be worked out with your local Kiwanis’ Club. It is going to be an unforgettable experience. When you come, you will be able to meet tons of amazing people who are just as inspired as you in making the world a better place.

District Convention The theme of this year’s DCON was “Service Around the World”. It was an amazing experience for all who went! There was lots of money raised for the Eliminate Project. There was also great food, a dance, a performance from CU Boulder’s Buffoons (acapella group), service projects, and so

much more. I strongly encourage all of you to think about going next year in the end of March. When you come, it is not only a phenomenal experience socially, but it also allows you to help vote for the new Executive Board for the Rocky Mountain District. This year there were many candidates who ran, and I am pleased to announce that we have some of the best people presiding over us. Aliza Mitchell is our new District Governor, our new Treasurer is Diana Antillon, Olivia Becker is the new Secretary, and the new Editor is Ciana Burroughs. Each of these fabulous people are very dedicated to Key Club and I assure you that they will make this year an unforgettable one.

Key Leader Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for young leaders , also known as Key Clubbers. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience. A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership. Participants begin by attending a Key Leader conference , which is a weekend retreat. Large and small group workshops; discussions and team-building activities take place over the course of the weekend. Students have opportunities to learn leadership skills that will help them to change their schools , communities, and world for the better. While exploring leadership in a whole new way, participants will make amazing new friends and have experiences they will never forget. Register and find out dates for these special events near you on the key leader website! http://www.key-leader.org/Home.aspx

Eliminate Week Join the Key Clubbers around the world and become heroes for a cause. Eliminate week starts May 2nd and goes through the 6th. “Help save and protect women and their future babies. Around the globe, Kiwanis family clubs like yours are focusing on a week in May to raise funds and awareness for The Eliminate Project. Now’s the time to start planning your week of fundraising fun” (excerpt from the Key Club website)!

How Did it Start?

“Seven years ago, a high-school senior started a project similar to Eliminate Week. She sold snacks and drinks in a little red wagon to raise money for a local hospital. Starting with only US $10 worth of snacks, the student and her classmates earned more than US $1,100 by the end of the week. There’s an easy way to kick off the week: ● A step-by-step guide-- found on your organization’s page-- will help your club through the planning, implementation and celebration stages of your event. ● Ready-to-implement fundraising ideas in each guide will make it easy for you to choose your event. ● Clubs that participate are eligible for fundraising recognition and an Eliminate Week patch. Don’t forget to submit the Kiwanis-family giving form with any donation to The Eliminate Project” (excerpts from the Key Club website).
