Back to school
As fun as summer has been, it’s almost time to buckle up and hit the books again! I’m looking forward to the upcoming school year and visiting all the clubs of division 14! During late July, early August I had a district board meeting where we planned Fall Rally!
Fall rally
I will be training all of Division 14’s officers during Fall Rally. I understand that a handful of you recently got elected and I want to arm you all with tools that will help be of use to you in your Key Club duties. In non-Key Club related news, I had a volleyball camp during the month of July, and pre-season is coming up in a week! I’m very excited for the season to start and get back into playing the game of volleyball!

Monthly reports Each month, it is mandatory that each club fills out a report summarizing the clubs’ activities. It would be best if a member in a leadership position, such as the secretary, fills out the form, since they have the most knowledge of the clubs’ activities. To access the form, please visit the Rocky Mountain Key Club website at rmdkeyclub.org, hover over the ‘Resources,’ select ‘Club Monthly Reports,’ fill out the form, and submit! The club with the most reports submitted, will be given an award at DCON. Also, the reports will be judged on the amount of details included, so don’t spare the details!

Final thoughts
Fall rally This year, Fall Rally will house Divisions 9, 11, and 14! Interdivisional Fall Rallies are super fun since key clubs from multiple divisions and come together to celebrate. The date for Fall Rally is September 9th. We will convene at 5:00 PM, while Fall Rally will commerce at 5:30.
Key leader Is a three day leadership camp that challenges the leader in you and helps you understand the meaning of servant leadership as well as an opportunity to meet new people and create lasting memories. I will be in attendance during the Roundup River Ranch Key Leader and I think it will be a nice environment for me to meet/catch up with all of you, so please come to Key Leader so we can get acquainted!

Youth opportunities fund As the school year fast approaches, Key Club will resume again, and with it, service projects. To help with all those service projects is the Youth Opportunities Fund. To put it simply, the Youth Opportunities Fund is an endowed fund that grants Key Club International money to provide clubs with the resources necessary to aid service projects. At the present, there is 1.8 million dollars in the Youth Opportunities Fund which you and your club can tap into! The application, which can be filled manually or electronically, is six pages long, but it requires you to add a great deal of detail about your service project and why you need the funds. The deadline for the application is October 15th, and the application can be found on the Key Club International website under the ‘Serve’ tab.
Currently, the venue for Fall Rally is TBD, but it will either be located in Golden, CO. or Lakewood, CO. There is a entry fee of $1.80, which will be donated to the Eliminate Project. In the upcoming weeks, I will send out an email, with all the information needed for Fall Rally, so please check your inboxes frequently.
Step up! There is no secret formula to adding members to your club’s roster. Membership development is a challenge but I have some tips to help step up your recruitment skills. Tip #1 - Advertise! No one is going to join a club they know nothing about. My recommendation is to make a posters and hang them around the halls at your school; people will look at them, get curious and ask “what is Key Club?” Then it’s up to you to sell them on Key Club! Tip #2 - Food! Once you’re sold people on the idea of Key Club and you’ve gotten them to come to a meeting, it’s time to keep their interest. It’s helpful to bring food for the first couple of meetings, so people have an initiative to return, but also, you should focus on educating them on Key Club and getting them excited about the organization. Tip #3 - Meetings! Your meetings are the most important element to your club because meetings are where you update your members on what International is doing, brainstorm service projects and grow closer as a club. It’s essential that you have fun activities such as icebreakers and bonding games, so every member feels at home in the club, and make sure to give them anything your lieutenant governor sends (newsletters, emails, posters, etc).
Let’s talk about dues Key Club International is an enormous organization with about 270,046 members. To support an organization that big, dues are necessary. In the Rocky Mountain District dues need to $12.00 minimum, and it’s up to individual key clubs to decide if they want to raise that amount to fund other things such as club shirts.
Why pay dues? *info provided by the 2014-15 Capital District Treasurer, Ruthvik Gali Dues are the determining factor in a club’s status in the district. A club in ‘Good Standing’ is one which pays their dues on time. If a club misses the deadline to turn in dues, which is December 1st, the club will receive an official notice from the District Treasurer. When Feburuary 2st rolls around and a club hasn’t paid their dues, they are placed under Suspended status and the club will have to pay a $100 fine along with the dues the following year to be relisted as a club in ‘Good Standing.’ In the event that a club neglects to pay their dues two years in a row, the club will be listed as ‘Inactive,’ which can only be rectify by the Lieutenant Governor of the Division, who will have to recharter the club. Rechartering a club requires a $300 fine and a minimum of 15 members and an official officer ceremony conducted by the Lieutenant Governor.
How to pay dues Visit the key Club International website, click the ‘Dues & Reports’ link and follow the on-screen directions.
Dates to remember September 9 – Clubs may start the dues process in the Membership Update Center November 1 – Early Bird Dues deadline December 1– Regular Dues deadline December 31 – First time late notice to Key Club President and Advisors to clubs that haven’t paid dues. January 31 – Late notice to Sponsoring Kiwanis Club and Second late notice to Key Club President and Advisors

Final thoughts Me and Division 11 and 9 Lieutenant Governors are working incredibly hard to make Fall Rally a great one, and I hope to see you all there! The board meeting I recently attended was fun and especially informative. My fellow board members were a joy to be around and work with. I’m actually super excited for school to start up again, and to see all my friends and teachers. But I think we can all agree that the best part of the back to school season is back to school shopping. Hopefully you’ve all had an enjoyable and happy-filled summer! As always, I’ve ran out of thoughts, so I have yet another quote to share:
