Introduction and Our Division 11 What is Key Club? Senior Shout Out and Summer Activities 1|Page Key Clubber of the Month and Contact Info.

: Hello Division 11 members! My name is Ashley Lai and I am the new Lieutenant Governor for this district. I’m incredibly pleased and excited to be serving our community for the 2016-2017 school year. As a short introduction about myself, I will be a senior at Niwot High School next year. Since joining Key Club in freshman year, I have become more involved and excited to help out during community service. One of my favorite projects has always been participating in Operation Christmas child during the holidays. While it is a simple operation, I do believe it makes a huge difference. By working together with all the members, we will definitely have an impact in service. Sometimes this year, I would love to get to know and work with every one of you! If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please email or text me. My contact information will be at the end of the newsletter. P.S. I will be making a Division 11 Facebook page within the next month. Feel free to join in! My Goals: 1. Have everyone know the meaning behind Key Club 2. Start a fundraiser/event, outside of Fall and Spring Rallies, with the participation of all schools. 3. Check in and visit every school in District 11 during the school year.

There are currently five different schools in our district. The schools are as follow: Frederick High School, Monarch High School, Niwot High School, Peak to Peak Charter School, and Thornton High School. Since we are a small district, there are so many opportunities when we will be able to work together and get to know each other. I hope you are all as excited as I am! 2|Page

I know you all love volunteering, whether it is at a local animal shelter or going to another country and building schools. However, every time you volunteer, you volunteer as a Key Club member. But, what really is Key Club all about and what are you representing as a member? The Colors: Key Club is known for three different colors that accurately sum up its foundation. Blue: Unwavering Character Gold: Service

The Organization Structure: The whole organization at the club, division, district, and international level is completely student led. This means that even your International president is a high school student too! Clubs- This would be the presidents, treasurers, secretaries, editors, and vice presidents you see on a weekly basis. Division- A division is multiple schools led by one person who connects the club to the district level. In our case, that person would be me. ď Š District- The district has a board including Governor, Treasurer, Secretary, Editor, and many more. Our division is under The Rocky Mountain District which includes the states of Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. International- This is made up of all the districts. The board is voted new every year including a president, vice presidents, and the trustee. They make the new policies and review the events of the past year.

So…What makes us so Awesome? The whole idea behind this organization is that Key Club believes in letting students lead through servicing others. Additionally, as an international organization, students in Asia and South America are helping others just like you. 

Congratulations to all the seniors who graduated this year! I hope you have a wonderful time in college, but I also hope you don’t forget about our Key Club family. While Key Club is only for high schoolers, we have a new addition to our Kiwanis family for college students. If you are looking for more opportunities in college to engage in service or if you just can’t get enough of volunteering, Circle K is definitely the place to look out for. Like Key Club, it is completely student led (older students) and something you should consider. Again, congratulations on graduating. We will miss you!

As for the rest of you who are still attending high school, remember to volunteer and fundraise during summer time too! Here’s a list of interesting ideas to start you off: 1. Garage Sell: Have any old items (books, clothes, games) you are not using anymore? 2. Lemonade Stand: I know this sounds silly, but it is going to be 90 degrees soon. What is better than lemonade? 3. Charity Miles: Want to get in shape for the summer? This app lets donate to your favorite charity for every mile you run/bike! You can even do it in groups with friends.

Key Clubber of the Month

For every month, starting in July, I will be ending the newsletter with an outstanding member. I would like every club to choose a member who has gone above and beyond. From there, I will choose one who I believe has done tremendously. When emailing me, please include the member’s name and school along with a short description about what they have done. Don’t forget a picture too! Hopefully, everyone will have a picture and description in the frame sometimes this year. See you all next month!
