Last month, my high school Key Club focused on raising money for UNICEF’s Eliminate Project. We asked the teachers in our school if they would be willing to dye their hair to raise money for UNICEF, and nine staff members chose to participate. The idea of the fundraiser was that teachers could choose a few colors that they would be willing to dye their hair and then students could vote with money to decide what color would win. Through this fundraiser, we raised nearly $300 for UNICEF’s Eliminate project, which equates to tetanus vaccines to protect 162 women and their future babies. We are also participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF on Halloween!

Key Leader was a blast! I attended the Roundup River Ranch Key Leader earlier this month and met so many awesome Key Clubbers from all over our Rocky Mountain District. I also gained invaluable knowledge about leadership. One lesson that really stuck out to me was the one on self-respect. This aspect in leadership is often overlooked, but in order to be an effective leader and help others reach their potential, you need to have a positive view of yourself too.

1. Is what I’m doing helping others to become stronger and more independent? 2. Do others or does the organization become better because of what I’m doing? 3. Do my actions help others in my community?
