OUR UNIVERSITY HISTORY Driven by Saint José María, founder of Opus Dei, a group of businessmen founded the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa (IPADE), the leading business school in Latin America. In 1968, emerged the Instituto Panamericano de Humanidades [Pan American Institute of Humanities (IPH)] from the IPADE, with the purpose of providing additional liberal education to its participants. In this initial stage, the first programs offered were in Pedagogy, Institutions Management, Philosophy and Law. With the idea of heading towards a universal knowledge, it was decided to expand the academic offer of IPH, so eight additional Bachelor´s Degrees and the high school were opened. It was then that the IPH reached the University status and Universidad Panamericana (UP) was founded as it is known today. Since its inception, UP has been built as an institution of Higher Education with academic soundness and scientific rigor, living according to Christian principles and values, in search of a better society.

n my capacity as Dean of Universidad Panamericana Law School in Mexico City I am pleased to briefly introduce our Law School. The Universidad Panamericana Law School was founded in 1970 and since then has been privileged with the most prestigious and qualified faculty in Mexico. Over the years, we have been considered as one of the top law schools in Mexico City and for almost ten years as the best law school from the employers’ vantage point. Our graduates are located at the best law firms in Mexico as well as top positions in the government and the judiciary. Since it was created, our Law School has kept a strong commitment with foreign academic and professional institutions with the aim to enhance our own legal scholarship as well as to strengthen our ties abroad in benefit of our students, faculty and graduates and reciprocally, of our foreign peers as well. In 2006 we undertook the deepest curricular reform not only in our history but in Mexican legal education, by introducing new courses more coherent with contemporary legal theory and practice, which also required us to explore and introduce new methodologies in order to bring up to date our vision of legal education. This transformative enterprise was significantly influenced by the European and American legal traditions, and their respective scholarship and practice. We were very privileged in having the advice of colleagues from worldwide renowned universities such as Yale and Columbia, among others. In particular, one of the most distinctive features of our curriculum is that it includes from the second out of five years of legal education, internships of our students at top law firms and positions in government and the judiciary, particularly at the Supreme Court, which has consolidated our Law School as the top choice among the legal community in Mexico City. I hope you will find of interest the following information and it will be a pleasure to welcome you in the near future as part of our vibrant academic community. Sincerely, José Antonio Lozano Díez LL.D Dean of the Faculty of Law Universidad Panamericana

Conscious of the importance of international relations, in less than a decade we have developed academic agreements with over than 25 foreign law schools in twelve different countries. We take special care in the ethical formation of our students by showing them that a successful lawyer in the practice of the law must combine their legal knowledge with moral principles and the ideal of justice. The first years of our academic plan is specially designed to develop important abilities such as oratory, study habits, written skills and legal argumentation. We are the only Faculty of Law in Mexico that uses the case-study method to improve these abilities. We have relations with more than 230 Law Firms, private companies and the public sector, with a presence both national and worldwide allowing our graduates to have a better professional career. A graduate from our Law Faculty does not only know the Legislation and the procedure to apply it, but also understand vital concepts like justice and equity and know that in order to solve judicial problems they have to search other law sources like jurisprudence, the doctrine and international law. The Pro-Bono Buffet is a Legal Clinic created by the Law Faculty to provide free legal services to people who cannot afford a private lawyer. At the College of Philosophy and Social Sciences we are convinced that through the study of philosophy, communication, and education we can build a more human world. For more than forty years the School of Philosophy has prepared professionals with a high sense of responsibility and commitment to truth, who can intervene in a favorable way for the transformation of society. With this purpose in mind, the School of Philosophy has designed a plan where students review in depth the most relevant philosophical traditions of the History of Human Thought, as well as the master Works of classical authors. In this way, students acquire a wholesome panorama of the main problems of philosophy and the ways of solution. By reading from the direct source, the knowledge of classical languages and the possibility to choose from different elective courses, the student will be able to articulate his or her own intellectual interests with the knowledge expected from a bachelor´s degree in Philosophy.
