of the Ozarks.
The mission of RMHC of the Ozarks is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children right here in the Ozarks. We dedicate our efforts and resources to two core programs. First, Springfield’s two Ronald McDonald Houses have welcomed over 12,000 families of seriously ill and injured children hospitalized in Springfield over the past 29 years. The Tooth Truck (our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®) provides dental treatment and prevention education for at risk children with no access to dental care. We’ve completed the treatment plans of more than 22,000 kids since 2002 and started an on-site daily tooth-brushing program called the Healthy Smiles Academy.

The two-story traditional home of Alan & Camille Lockhart was built in 2008 in Diamond Woods Estates in East Springfield. Inspired by the classic, French chateau style, the Lockharts have combined the charm of the French-style homes in Dallas’ Center City, custom furnishings and unique vintage pieces with three generations of family heirlooms; resulting in a timeless, elegant atmosphere with a warm and casual feel for their active family. They spent several years researching and visualizing the home of their dreams and local architect, Susie Wieland, was able to formalize those plans. Once Bryon Weber began the foundational construction, the couple spent every weekend at the building site and enlisted the talent of designer Kimberly Stockwell-Braasch to sketch their ideas in three-dimension and bring the interior trim work and custom cabinetry to life. Once finished, the Lockharts consulted several local designers to give life to their style and guide them with interior selections and staging. The result is breathtaking. Cast stone accents the brick exterior and is carried into the design of the custom kitchen archway; dark hardwood floors, carefully selected light fixtures, and a coffered dining room ceiling bring warmth throughout the home; and custom railings wrap the winding staircase spotlighting a dramatic collage of family photographs taken by Heather Cherie Photography, all of which have been featured on the family’s past Christmas cards. The Lockharts will open their beautifully adorned home for the 22nd Annual Cup O’Cheer Homes Tour featuring décor selected by Camille over the years including handmade ornaments by her great-grandmother.

Originally built in 1926 by Dr. Samuel Freeman, Albert & Alia Lee made this two-story colonial revival home theirs in 2011. Located in Springfield’s Midtown Neighborhood and included on the National Register of Historic Places, the home has a sister house across the street reflecting a similar structure and style. Although the home has been added on to three times, homeowners over the years have ensured that many of the original features have been preserved. The custom wrought iron outdoor railing was originally designed by Dr. Freeman’s wife; and the garden bricks were repurposed from the decommissioned trolley system on Benton Avenue. The water garden, now used as a koi pond, was originally a cooling pool, and the door originally used for milk and bread deliveries is still a charming feature of the home. The small porch area once served as a clinic where Dr. Freeman treated patients after hours, and is now used as Alia’s office. Initially, the alcove upstairs was a luggage room, was later converted into Mrs. Freeman’s sewing area, and now the family plans to modify it into Alia’s cosmetic room. The Lee’s have an eclectic decorating style reflected in paintings and artwork from their travels abroad and endearing family photographs. The master bedroom features abstract photos of their wedding, one of the first at the Historic Firehouse on Commercial Street. Among the family’s treasured antiques are a medicinal herb cabinet from Korea, originally Albert’s parents, and Alia’s grandmother’s old piano. Kofron-Page Designs will be adding their unique, vintage style as they decorate this amazing home for the holidays.
Holiday Décor by Pat & Karie Bauer and Nathan Taylor, Obelisk Home
The modern contemporary home of Pat & Karie Bauer rests in Cobblestone Creek and was inspired by a California ranch home concept featuring four wings designed in the shape of an “X”. The Bauer’s worked closely with family friend, Neil Wood, to modify the plan incorporating clean lines, designated living space separate from the bedroom area and a multitude of custom features. Nathan Taylor of Obelisk Home helped guide their many interior design and color scheme selections, including an expansive great room table, built in France by Michel Ferrand, a bar fashioned from old barn wood and a fireplace molded from concrete. J. Martin, also of Obelisk Home, conceptualized custom light fixtures for the great room and stairway, and wall sconces for the front entrance. Panoramic glass doors open fully to the back outdoor living space, and the kitchen features beautiful custom cabinetry by Alpine Cabinets and a five-foot Galley Sink within the center island. The wing designated for the family’s bedrooms has an amazing laundry suite with dual appliances, laundry carts and a wall pass-thru. The rooms for their three boys are joined by a Jack and Jack bathroom with storage lockers, a shared custom sink and mirrors for each of them. Nathan and the Bauer’s young daughter worked together to select the perfect bold color scheme for her bedroom suite. The lower level features a home theatre, recreation area, gym, guest bedroom and dramatic bar, re-purposed from the Vesta Room in Springfield. Pat & Karie are looking forward to decorating for the holidays and welcoming you into their home for this year’s Tour.

The old world Tuscan home of Joe & Linda Bex was built in 2007 and is nestled in the quiet Tuscany Hills development in Nixa. Joe & Linda share a passion for the careful selections of their interior décor, which blends family heirlooms, craftsmanship and an appreciation for old things. The main level of the home features a custom Alderwood door, cross cut oak floors and window coverings sewn by Joe’s mother. An 1860s spoon-carved walnut couch and 1912 Weber Grand piano, found in the basement of an old Catholic church, are among the Bex Family’s cherished antiques. The importance of family and the preservation of heirlooms is woven throughout the Bex Home. Among these treasures is an antique cabinet featuring Linda’s mother’s Flow Blue China collection, a window from Joe’s childhood home, a Baker’s Hoosier Kitchen Cabinet and the chair Joe used as a child, which was re-upholstered and given to him as a 40th birthday gift. The lower level features a 9-foot quilting frame they use to fashion custom quilts, a game room and a home theatre. Joe & Linda find great enjoyment in embellishing their home for the holidays with 13 uniquely-themed Christmas trees, featuring the family’s ornament collection with classic Christmas books tucked carefully underneath, Santas, snowmen, and a tribute to the Silver screen with a silver tree completing the décor of their home theatre. You’ll also have the opportunity to enjoy their holiday village collection and special ornaments from their many travels during this year’s Tour.

Mike & Erin Burlew East Springfield
Joe & Linda Bex Tuscany Hills – Nixa
The rustic elegant home of Mike & Erin Burlew rests on twenty-one acres near Pearson Creek in East Springfield. Inspired by their love for rustic homes found in Montana and Colorado, the Burlews enlisted the expertise of designer Dale Peer and Bryon Weber for construction of this 8,200-square foot timber frame masterpiece. A structured steel joint system supports the weight of each 1,500-pound interior truss repurposed from the Wrigley Spearmint Gum Factory in downtown Chicago; and the front entrance features exterior beams regenerated from a wooden trestle bridge from the “Impossible Railroad”, a railroad built through the magnificent Carriso Gorge in the early 1900s, and then considered an engineering impossibility. Once these main beams were chosen, work began by Danny Schwartz and his Amish community in Eldorado Springs, using horse-powered saws and tools to frame the home. Erin selected each beam for placement and position with a focus on exposing their individual characteristics and natural beauty. The natural stones used to construct the home are native to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Wisconsin. The Burlews added a touch of elegance to their home through their selection of stucco walls, contemporary light fixtures, granite countertops and iron railing. Among their favorite features are the custom closet joining the master suite to the laundry area, a reinforced room housing Mike’s gun collection and office, a lower level garage showcasing Mr. Burlew’s Bronco collection and many more features you will not want to miss on this year’s Homes Tour.
