When our baby girl was born at 35 weeks, we were surprised by both her arrival date and size. Diagnosed with restricted growth, she weighed a mere 3 lbs 9 oz at birth. Although healthy and otherwise on track, she required extra time in the NICU to grow. Initially, when given the option to utilize services at the Ronald McDonald House, we weren’t sure if we were the right candidates. We live out of town, but we don’t live hours away as some do, and we certainly did not want to take the spot of someone who truly needed it. However, we had no idea how long our baby would be hospitalized. The staff immediately assured us that we had earned a place at this “home-away-from-home.” Staying at the Ronald McDonald House was such a blessing. We spent a total of 18 days at the House while our sweet baby was in the NICU at Cox. While there, it saved us in so many areas: lodging, gas for traveling back and forth to the hospital, time spent travelling, prepared meals, a laundry room, and many other amenities. Words are not enough to describe how grateful we feel to have had the honor of staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you!
