Vandiver

Home: West Plains, MO (Howell County)

On March 10th, I was admitted to Cox

for what would be the last day I was pregnant with our son, Easton. This is a day we will remember for the rest of our lives. At 33 weeks, I had developed a rare form of preeclampsia called atypical HELLP Syndrome. Due to these complications, our son was born via emergency c-section that evening and was quickly whisked away to the NICU. So many questions and concerns were running through our heads as we saw our son hooked up to an IV, oxygen, and heart monitors. During this emotionally overwhelming time in our lives, we were truly blessed to have had the opportunity to stay at the Ronald McDonald House near Cox South. At first, we weren’t sure what to expect, but all of those fears and apprehensions were put to ease when we were greeted by sweet, smiling faces. The Ronald McDonald House was a refuge and a light at the end of a very long, weary day at the NICU. It was during dinner time that staff and volunteers would rejoice with us during our great days and offer encouragement during our bad days. Having that hot meal ready every evening was just what the soul ordered to keep us going. Our family spent a total of 20 days at the Ronald McDonald House. That was 20 nights of a room to sleep in without worrying about cost, 20 days of not worrying about how we were going to eat, and most of all 20 days of support and friendships that will last forever. Thank you RMHC for making a difference for the Vandiver family!
