FAMILY PROFILE
Potter Family Home: Aurora, MO (Lawrence County)
The Ronald McDonald House has come to the aid of my family and impacted my life on several occasions. When my younger brother was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 6-months old, my entire family was back and forth to Tulsa constantly to see his specialist doctor. We spent countless birthdays and holidays in Tulsa while he was in the hospital, and I can’t imagine how we would have been able to enjoy those without the loving comfort of their Ronald McDonald House. They always made sure meals, gifts, and anything else we needed were provided to all of the families staying at all times. More recently, on March 20th, the eve of my baby shower, I went in for a routine ultrasound and found out we had to deliver our little guy earlier than we thought. For reasons still unknown, he was pulling blood from his brain and needed to be delivered that day! I was only 35 weeks pregnant and immediately admitted for an emergency C-Section. Only hours later, little Forrest Kingston Potter was born weighing 4 lbs. 1 oz. He was admitted into the NICU and put on a breathing machine, where we were told he would stay for weeks. Living an hour away from the hospital posed a huge strain on my husband and older son who were running back and forth. Thankfully, we were connected to the Ronald McDonald House, and they so graciously put us in an amazing room furnished with everything we needed. When my husband arrived to check us in, he was greeted with a very helpful staff and a room full of wonderful gifts for my entire family, including a hand knitted sleeper for our new bundle of joy! After missing my baby shower, the staff, my husband, and family put the most beautiful shower together for me at RMH. Though it was not the planned destination I had set out for, the magical feeling of having my baby so near and being showered with amazing gifts from family and friends is a feeling that will never be forgotten. Forrest was in the NICU for a week and a half before being released to go home at 3 lbs. 17 oz. He has grown to be a very healthy and very happy baby boy. We were so very blessed to have had the Ronald McDonald House for our entire family to come together during the birth of our sweet boy. We will forever be grateful for RMHC and the amazing gift they are to our family year after year. THANK YOU!!!!
