I had been in and out of the hospital
with this pregnancy with multiple contractions. The doctors ran a fetal fibronectin test to determine, if I was at risk for preterm labor, and the results came back positive. This meant I was also at risk for delivering in the next two weeks. I have had a premature baby before, but what could happen next was always left unknown. Knowing that I did not live in the Springfield area, the doctors referred me to the Ronald McDonald House. It was about 2:40am on December 18, 2018 and I remember lying in bed watching a movie on my phone, when all of a sudden, I felt a pop and knew my water had broken. I quickly called labor and delivery for them to come help. I knew I was already dilated to 4cm when I was discharged a day or so before. I grabbed my shoes and at that moment I knew I wasn’t going to make it. I felt like I needed to use the restroom, so I ran to the bathroom, a push and a half later… Elijah was born at 26 weeks. He was born at 3:00am weighing 2lbs 5oz. His first 45 days were spent in the NICU, and we were able to go home on March 2, 2019. We were so thankful for Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Kids during our time there. The staff and the other families I met there were so supportive and loving, and they really helped create a “home-away-from-home” for my family and me. Today, Elijah is a strong fighter and gives me hope to keep pushing. So, Room 102, the staff, and the other families I met while at the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Kids will always hold a special place in my heart. It is now just a memory, but I replay it in my head and experience the same emotions I felt when it first happened. It was a moment I wish I could have had recorded.
