Jessica first checked in to the Ronald McDonald House
as a high-risk maternity patient. Due to preeclampsia, she delivered baby Peyton at only 25 weeks, and she and her husband, Joey, stayed at the Ronald McDonald House, along with grandma and grandpa Jill and Russ after Peyton was born. After a few weeks, Peyton was transferred to Kansas City for more intensive care. Grandpa Russ shared the following before they left: “When my wife asked me to write a few words about what the Ronald McDonald House has meant to us, uncharacteristically, words failed me. As the parents of three daughters and the grandparents of five, we are not inexperienced at celebrating births. However, when our middle daughter, Jessica, was admitted to the hospital just 5½ months into her first pregnancy, we were shaken. Four long days later, Peyton Marie was born weighing 1 lb. 13 oz. Even though we live just 40 minutes from Springfield, we could not stand to be away. The Ronald McDonald House afforded Peyton’s daddy to be able to commute to work, but still be with his wife and daughter when they needed him in the evening and night. It has also allowed Jessica’s mom to provide the strength and comfort Jessica needs during the day. Life has many day-to-day cares and responsibilities, but the Ronald McDonald House has allowed those cares to fade into the background. This ‘home-away-from-home’ has empowered Jessica, Joey, Gram and Gramps to focus on the only care that is important: Peyton Marie! Thank you to the incredible staff and the remarkable volunteers who have touched our lives in a miraculous way!”
