FAMILY PROFILE

Means-Nowlin Family Home: Neosho, MO (Newton County)

I was 23 weeks pregnant, with my son Easton, when I gave birth to my sweet little 1lb 1oz baby boy on September 25, 2017. We were warned from the beginning how long and difficult the journey would be. His 139 day NICU stay had many obstacles including five different surgeries, being told he wouldn’t make it and that we should discontinue care more times than we can remember. We were introduced to the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin just shortly after Easton was born. We stayed there for a few short weeks before he was stable enough to be transferred to Springfield. We were very scared knowing our family and friends would be almost 2 hours away from us. However, the day we walked into the House in Springfield, we were instantly greeted by the kind staff and other families going through what had just begun for us. It was truly our “home-away-from-home” for the next few months. When we got to Springfield, our son was in very critical condition. Knowing we were able to stay a floor away from him at all times lifted a huge amount of stress and worry off our shoulders. We didn’t worry about how we would eat because a hot meal was served for us nightly, We were also provided hygiene items, goodies, and laundry facilities. They even made holidays special by decorating the House and providing gifts! We are happy to share that our little miracle just turned one and is now thriving. We can never thank RMH enough for helping us through such a difficult time. We would have had nowhere to go if it wasn’t for this organization and the kind generosity of various donors. This organization will always hold a special place in the Means-Nowlin’s hearts.
