On Tuesday, January 26th, 63 McDonald’s® Restaurants and various other locations in the Ozarks began placing red, pink and gold “adopted” paper hearts on their walls and windows in support of our Ronald McDonald Houses and the 23rd Annual “Share a Heart” Campaign. The campaign runs through February 29th, and many people have supported our mission by donating $1, $5, $20 or more to our largest fundraiser of the year. We encourage you to visit your favorite McDonald’s to not only “Share a Heart,” but also share hope, love and encouragement for our families. Donations can also be made by texting “SHAREAHEART” to 71777 or at ShareAHeart.org.

What is your favorite thing about participating in the Family Dinner Program? My favorite thing about participating in the program is being able to help families that are going through a tough time. Do you have any favorite memories? My favorite memory was being able to take my son home from the NICU after such a long stay in the Hospital. What would you like to say to other groups who are considering volunteering with the family dinner program? I would say they should do it! You are helping some amazing families, and they don’t always have the time to cook a nice meal. It helps them to forget the situation they are in for a minute and enjoy the evening.

Around the Houses Mission Moment
In every family bedroom, we have a Book of Hope. The Book of Hope is a journal that stays in each room for families to use as an additional outlet to share their thoughts and to read entries from previous families. The notes contained in these books are stories about a child’s journey to a healthy recovery, drawings from children staying in the room, words of encouragement, or even just a quote passed from one family to another to provide support. Recently, we had a family share some words of encouragement about their experience with both Houses. This is a wonderful reminder of the difference we are making in the lives of hundreds of families each year.
The House that Love Built® In honor of Valentine’s Day, we want to honor all those around the world who make it possible for Ronald McDonald House Charities to exist. More than 350 Houses around the world provide comfort, hope and support to families at a time when they need it the most—when their children are ill or hurting. Our two Ronald McDonald Houses are blessed by countless volunteers and supporters who have helped us serve more than 10,600 families since 1988. We exist because people like you care about helping others. Thank you for choosing to support our Ronald McDonald Houses.
This is the House that provides the home That cooks the meals That sleeps the people That dries the tears This is the House that Love Built®

Welcome Mercy House Manager, Susan Green
We are thrilled to welcome Susan Green to our team as the House Manager at the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Children’s Hospital! Susan is originally from Rogersville, Missouri, and earned her Health Science degree from the University of Eau Claire. Through her previous employment with Mercy Hospital, she served as the liaison between the Patient Benefits department and Trauma Services as well as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. While in this role, Susan had the privilege to help many families overcome very trying times during their hospital stays. She also had the opportunity to participate in many outreach opportunities with The HOPE Connection, The Salvation Army and Crosslines. These experiences have ignited a passion and ambition in Susan to serve others with compassion and integrity and to offer families and loved ones much needed support through a difficult time. Susan is looking forward to becoming more involved with the community in her humanitarian efforts. Susan is the mother of two beautiful children, Terry and Gabrielle, and she is one of her children’s biggest fans as a spectator at their many sporting activities. Susan, along with her children, enjoys spending time outdoors running, hiking and kayaking. Susan is looking forward to being able to serve families in need with the Ronald McDonald Houses of the Ozarks. Welcome, Susan!

Tooth Talk
Five Years and Counting
By: Dr. Sarah Cimino Five years… As a young spring chick of only 34 years of age, I can only list a few things that I have committed to for at least 5 years - competitive soccer, amateur photography, marriage to my wonderful husband, and now working aboard the Tooth Truck. The common thread? All things that I love, plain and simple. I looked at my old anniversary Heart Beats articles to draw inspiration as I sat down to write this piece. The common thread that kept jumping out at me came as no surprise - it was the pictures and stories about the patients. The more I looked, though, the more I realized that they weren’t just patients. The faces looking back at me from the pictures were of innocent children filled with hope, dreams and fears. On each of their faces, though, was a smile. A smile of trust and confidence - the mission of the Tooth
Truck could be seen in each of their faces. That was my story, my five years, my next five years. In total, those smiling faces have numbered 8,765 children during my time so far, for a total of 4.8 million dollars of free dental care. I don’t know about you, but I find that amazing, humbling and motivating.
So without further ado, here are some of my favorite smiles of the last five years. Each picture is more than just a name; it’s a memory, a story and a reminder of how much I love doing what I do. Thank you all for the past five years and I look forward to many more.
Welcome,
Olivia Collins
We are overjoyed to welcome Olivia Collins to our volunteer family, both on the Tooth Truck and with the Healthy Smiles Academy. Olivia is a pre-dental student at MSU and an active member of Delta Zeta Sorority. It was through one of her sorority sisters that Olivia first learned of the Tooth Truck and was encouraged to volunteer. The Tooth Truck is excited to be a part of Olivia’s adventures as a volunteer and can’t wait to see her share her experiences as she moves towards her dental career. Welcome to the Truck, Olivia!
