Family Dinner Spotlight Mychelle & Jen
How did you get involved with the Family Dinner Program? Mychelle: I was served a meal when in Denver, CO with my youngest daughter. It made a huge difference to me as I hadn’t eaten or thought of myself much while my daughter was going through medical issues. After we returned home, I decided I wanted to do that for other parents as it had made such a big impression on me when I was in need. Jen: I was recruited by Mychelle. What is your favorite thing about participating in the Family Dinner Program? Mychelle: Knowing the parents are able receive some good food without them having to take time away from their child to think about it and prepare it. Jen: Preparing a nice meal for the families is my favorite part.

While the summer months may be the most eagerly anticipated days of relaxation for a child, they can be among the most actionpacked days for the Tooth Truck. Once the final school bell rings and summer vacation begins, the Tooth Truck sets out to see kids involved in summer program in the Springfield area. Between the months of late May to early August, the Tooth Truck travels to a variety of sites including Summer School, Boys & Girls Clubs, Salvation Army Summer Camp, Great Circle and various other stops to see children smile and help them become cavity free. This year our General Dentist, Dr. Sarah, was gone for a portion of this time enjoying her newborn
son, Alex. The Tooth Truck was tremendously blessed to work with some amazing dentists from the community who are truly passionate about making a difference in children’s lives. Dr. Aaron Dannegger, Dr. Raymond Burton, Dr. Misty Shelton, Dr. David Hacker and Dr. Blake Keaster all graciously offered their skills and time to support the mission of the Tooth Truck. Thanks to their generosity, the Tooth Truck was able to successfully remain on the go and keep our patients smiling brightly. Our staff had a wonderful time working alongside each of them, and together we made a big difference in the lives of our patients. In total, with the help

The Tooth Truck loves to teach proper brushing habits to creatures of all shapes and sizes! Springfield Cardinal’s mascot Louie stopped by the Tooth Truck during a recent community event to check out the Tooth Truck’s spinning toothbrush. Moses with the Salvation Army Summer Camp practiced his brushing skills on the dragon tooth model during the launch of the Healthy Smiles Academy.
of these outstanding dentists, the Tooth Truck was able to see more than 160 patients, treat more than 90 cavities and provide $70,000 in dental treatment to children who can now smile with confidence!
The Tooth Truck could not be more thankful to our amazing team of temporary dentists, not just during the time Dr. Sarah was gone, but for the help they provide all year round. The Tooth Truck staff is eternally grateful for the continued dedication to our mission and look forward to many more opportunities to work with these individuals for years to come! Thank you!
Welcome, New Volunteer
Adam Hallam
The Tooth Truck is thrilled to welcome Adam Hallam to our wonderful group of volunteers. Adam is a pre-dental student at the University of Missouri in Columbia, but was born and raised right here in Springfield. Adam is graciously volunteering his time with the Tooth Truck this summer while he is home on summer break. He has taken an especially active role with the Tooth Truck’s summertime activities, participating in the GRIN IRON CLASSIC and helping out with the Healthy Smiles Academy. We will be sad to see him go back to school in the fall, but sincerely hope he continues to volunteer with us during the upcoming summers! Welcome to the Tooth Truck, Adam!
2015 All-Star Weekend After a round-robin volleyball tournament the next day, the East battled the West again at the 4th Annual Sertoma GRIN ACTION CLASSIC Championship Game, with the East taking the title.
