Price Cutter Charity Championship The Web.com Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper will be held August 13th - 16th at Highland Springs Country Club. The Ronald McDonald House has been a beneficiary since the inception of this event in 1990, providing over $1,000,000 in support to our organization alone. More than half of the annual funding we receive through this event is from TLC Properties’ CHARITY SWEEPSTAKES TICKETS. The program features 500 prizes valued at $25 each, giving each Sweepstakes ticketholder a 1 in 20 chance to win a prize. In addition, every ticketholder also has a 1 in 10,000 chance to win a 2015 Ford Mustang or $10,000 cash prize. The 10,000 Sweepstakes tickets are available NOW for $25 each. One-hundred-percent of your purchase will benefit the children and families of our two Ronald McDonald Houses if you designate the Houses as your preferred charity. The Sweepstakes Ticket also serves as a grounds season pass for the tournament, August 13th-16th. Buy your tickets TODAY and help spread the word! Our goal is to exceed last year’s record sales of 961 tickets. They will make a fantastic FATHER’S DAY GIFT! You can purchase tickets by contacting Kim Booth at 417-875-3505 or kim.booth@RMHCOzarks.org! For your convenience, we have included a flyer for ticket purchases in this newsletter. Be sure to check out our next issue of Heart Beats for details about the Ronald McDonald House Community Nights, August 7th - 9th at Ashley Furniture HomeStore, featuring a special offer related to our Sweepstakes Ticket sales!

Family Dinner Spotlight Republic Rainbow Girls We are excited to share more information about long-time Family Dinner Program participants for the House near Cox South. Learn more about The Republic Rainbow Girls…

When did you start providing meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House? We started providing meals about 25 years ago. The girls think it is a very beautiful home and it is a great opportunity for the families. The adults really enjoy talking to and connecting with the families as well. How did you get involved with the Family Dinner Program? We are a service organization so it is something we reached out for and the girls really enjoy their time at the House.

June Birthdays June 3 Clayton Schwinke Katelyn Sullivan

What is your favorite thing about participating in the Family Dinner Program? It has really been an eye-opening experience to see and hear about what these other families are going through. It’s nice that they have a place to call their “home away from home” and we are glad to help bring comfort to them.

June 4 Gracie Holt

Do you have any favorite memories? The girls collected pop tabs before they were old enough to help at the House. We loved getting to tour the whole House and seeing how much is available for the families.

Around the Houses Congratulations to all of our volunteers who graduated this past month from high school or college! We are so excited for each and every one of you and wish you all the best in the next chapter of your lives. Since summer is upon us, please let the Associate House Managers know if your volunteer schedule for the summer needs to change! Also, if you have friends that would like to join you for your volunteer shift please feel free to bring them along – we just ask that you let the Associate House Manager know ahead of time so we can communicate with the appropriate staff.

Special Thanks to RMH Intern,

Kimberly Kuykendall Mother Teresa once said, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier”. This quote captures the sentiment of our staff when we reflect on the impact Kim Kuykendall had on our organization this past year. We were blessed to have Kimberly (also known around the Houses as “Kimmy K”) serve as an intern for RMH. After her family’s personal experience with the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City, Kimberly sought an internship where she could share her passion, serve others and give back in a meaningful way. Kimberly recently obtained her Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Southwest Baptist University and looks forward to continuing her work in the non-profit community. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks for the many ways Kimberly supported our mission during her time with us. The House staff shared a few words about Kimberly’s impact on Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks. “I looked forward to what I called “Kimmy K Day” because she was so helpful, especially during the busy holiday season. Kimmy K spent numerous hours communicating with our Share-a-Heart families last year to ensure we had all the information we needed for each profile. She joined us for Happy Wheels deliveries and on Halloween she dressed up in costume for the kids! It was a joy to see her interact with the families and volunteers and build those relationships. Getting to know her and learn more about her family and her drive to help others was truly inspiring.” – Megan Schussler, Cox House Manager

“Kimmy K brought a ton of fun to the Houses during her time here. At the Mercy House, she jumped right in, learning each day while helping with everything from Happy Wheels and PEDS Kitchen deliveries to data entry and family check-ins. Kimberly always has a positive attitude and is eager to help families while empathizing with them in their difficult situations. It was great to see her grow from a shy, quiet college student when she first started to a confident, take-charge college graduate during her time with us. For me personally, Kimberly’s help at the Mercy House during Alexis’ maternity leave was invaluable! All of us who have worked closely with Kimberly know she has an extremely bright future ahead of her, and we are excited to see what the next few years hold for her. Kimmy K will be greatly missed here at RMH!” – Brian Powers, Mercy House Associate House Manager

Volunteer Spotlight Ty Jones

Let’s learn a little bit more about House at Mercy Children’s Hospital volunteer, Ty Jones…

How did you learn about the Ronald McDonald House? I first heard of RMH through the Greek system at Missouri State University. After I was informed on the RMH mission, I talked with a few friends who were already involved and they referred me to Brian Powers. What is your favorite part about volunteering? My favorite part of volunteering is beginning each week serving someone beside myself. Sometimes as a college student it can be easy to get caught up in your own goals and your own life. Beginning each week at RMH helps me stay grounded and is a consistent

reminder that serving others and community is essential to who I am. What would you like to share with others thinking about being an RMH volunteer? To others thinking about becoming a volunteer, I would ask what’s holding you back? If lack of time is the reason, I would challenge to think about that statement before being so sure. You will likely find there is time when you make it a priority--I know I did. What are your hobbies while not volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House? I enjoy playing guitar, reading, writing, riding road bikes, BBQs and always enjoy good company.

Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks HOUSE NEAR COX SOUTH STATS April 2015 What else would you like to share about yourself? This question is too general to answer specifically, so consider this an invitation for conversation. I love learning about new people, their experiences, and who they are. Do not be shy if you see me around!

There are so many exciting things happening with the Healthy Smiles Academy in 2015. Not only does the program have a new name and logo, but we have hired a fulltime Program Manager, Alise Deines, who will work directly with each current and future site. Under Alise’s leadership, the program is experiencing tremendous growth. This spring, 250 prekindergarten and kindergarten students joined the program from Bingham, Bissett, Cowden, and McGregor Elementary Schools. The Healthy Smiles Academy staff and volunteers work individually with children to establish life-long habits to keep their mouths cavityfree as they grow. In addition to instilling these important habits, the program helps young children gain the selfesteem that they need.

The Healthy Smiles Academy is individualized at each site to allow teachers the flexibility to select the time best suited for brushing in his/her classroom. Children gain independence through brushing and receive

encouragement from their teacher and peers. It is so rewarding to watch a child who was initially hesitant to brush transform into an eager participant after just a few days. If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Program Manager Alise Deines at alise. deines@toothtruck.org.

Volunteers like McKenzie Swan help support the program during the beginning days to help establish a good routine of daily brushing in each classroom.
