Bonnie Keller Celebrates 25 Years at Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Ozarks
Price Cutter Charity Championship
On August 7, 2014, Bonnie Keller celebrated 25 years with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks. Her positions held with RMHC were all volunteer-based until joining the staff as Executive Director in 1989 and later promoted to President & CEO in 1991. Bonnie began her career as a volunteer in 1985 before being elected to the board of directors in 1986, and appointed Volunteer Executive Director at the recommendation of her mentor and Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks founder, the late Joe Post. Under Bonnie’s leadership the organization has flourished, growing in reach and influence, and developing new programs to fit an ever-changing world. She has overseen the expansion of the RMHC programs and mission with a grant-making program added in 1996, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile (fondly known as the Tooth Truck) in 2002 and the second Ronald McDonald House (located inside Mercy Children’s Hospital) in 2012. “It is very apparent how much Bonnie cares for the organization. It’s not just a career for her; it’s a passion,” said Doug Carter, a local attorney, longtime Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks Board Member and current Board Chairperson. “Bonnie always keeps a positive attitude and meets challenges head-on. Her instincts for how to run the organization are spot-on. That’s the reason Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks is where it is today.” We couldn’t have said it any better. It is an honor and privilege to have Bonnie at the helm of the organization and leading RMHC to new heights. We look forward to many more years of working side-by-side with such an incredible leader who truly embodies the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Thank you to all the volunteers who worked during the Price Cutter Charity Championship, as well as those who helped sell sweepstakes tickets at Macadoodles leading up to the tournament. With your help, Ronald McDonald House Charities sold more than 960 raffle tickets, raising more than $24,000 that will be included in the total donation from the tournament! We received one of the COOLEST donations this month! Trevion, a 6-year-old cancer survivor, wanted to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. Trevion’s family, with the help of the community, had a drive for non-winning lottery tickets which they redeemed for 3 tablets! We are excited to be able to offer the tablets to families while they are staying at the House as an additional resource during their stay.

Volunteer Spotlight environment we get to create at the House. Plus, everyone here is really awesome, especially my Assistant Manager (Amber Campbell). I also really enjoyed the time I was able to help a Hispanic family understand the check-in process by utilizing my Spanish language skills.”
MaKenzie Judy This month, MaKenzie Judy will celebrate her one-year anniversary of volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Children’s Hospital. We are so thankful for her dedication and caring heart! What is your favorite part about volunteering? “I love being able to give back, and I also really enjoy the homey
What would you like to share with others who are thinking about being an RMH volunteer? “It is a very fulfilling experience. It gives you a purpose, and is an uplifting way to spend your extra time. It is always heartwarming when a family thanks you for donating your time; it makes me happy to contribute my time for that sole reason. And life is short, so I think we should always be doing stuff that matters.”
“I am a full-time student at Missouri State University where I also work, so I spend a lot of time on campus. I am majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy and Spanish, so most of my time is devoted to those two subjects. I just really like school! I am also in Delta Zeta and spend a lot of time with my sisters and participating in Greek Life events.” What else would you like to share about yourself? “I really like to travel and have studied abroad in Ecuador to improve my Spanish. I also had a really great time volunteering at the House in a different way recently by cooking dinner for the families.”
What are your hobbies while not volunteering for the Ronald McDonald House?
Special Thanks Special thanks to a few very generous donors who made it possible for us to complete some major projects around the House near Cox South the past few months! Thanks to a generous discount of more than $2,700 from CBC flooring, we were able to replace all of the flooring in the Family Living Center that sustained water damage this year. Special thanks to Lance Wolfinbarger for providing an additional discount on labor to install the flooring. Meek’s Lumber also donated all of the replacement trim to compliment the new flooring, and J&M Carpentry installed the trim at no charge! We are so grateful and appreciate the continued support from each of these companies! Mr. Electric also completed several projects around the House near Cox South recently, including replacing light fixtures in the basement, replacing an emergency light, cleaning light fixtures, replacing outlet covers and more! Smiles Around the
Community The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, fondly known as the Tooth Truck, is typically found parked outside a local school or community program as it fulfills its mission of providing children with quality dental care. While many members of our community know all about the Tooth Truck, there are still others who are not familiar with our services. Our staff continually looks for opportunities to connect with potential patients, supporters and volunteers through various public events. We happily attend these community events in an effort to educate the public about our services, encourage families to apply and to answer any questions people may have.

We have been fortunate to participate in several fun events over the past few months. The Tooth Truck was part of Big Rig Night at the Battlefield Mall geared towards little kids with a love for big trucks. More than 1,600 visitors had the chance to climb aboard, take a tour and see how some of our
dental instruments work. What a cool experience for a child who has never been to the dentist! The Tooth Truck also recently participated in McDonald’s Dollar Day at the Dickerson Park Zoo. The Tooth Truck was the first stop for families, and they received a tour and free toothbrush from our staff before heading in to see all the animals. We were fortunate to be a part of several other neighborhood gatherings and back-to-school events over the summer months. The Tooth Truck has enjoyed being a part of each event as we connect with new patients, supporters and volunteers. Healthy smiles require daily attention, and the more families the Tooth Truck can reach the more it can spread awareness concerning the importance of good dental hygiene and habits.
