FAMILY PROFILE
Family of Gracie Jane
Home: Cabool, MO (Texas County)
On July 2, 2019,
preeclampsia brought Gracie Jane into this world four weeks early and she was immediately taken to the NICU for respiratory distress syndrome. At three days old, Gracie started to have seizures that made her stop breathing. She had 8 seizures before doctors figured out what was happening to her. Unfortunately, Gracie had developed a grade 4 brain hemorrhage in her right frontal lobe which caused blood to build up on her brain for three days. After three days her brain could not handle the blood anymore and it started to irritate the tissue, thus, causing the seizures. Thankfully, a NICU social worker knew just the place for us to rest our worrying heads during all of this. She suggested that we let her start the process to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. It was minutes later that we got a call telling us that we were approved to stay and it became our “home-away-from-home for the next 6 weeks. The staff was so friendly and welcoming during this very trying time, and they brought so much comfort to our worrying hearts. As a first-time mother, you never expect to go through something like this, but through it all, the Ronald McDonald House and the staff were right beside us cheering us on. It takes a special kind of person to do what they do, and they have certainly found the perfect people to do just that.
