FAMILY PROFILE

Davault Family Home: Norwood, MO (Wright County)

On Saturday February 3, 2018, my family and I were traveling all over the Ozarks to coach and

watch our two children, Garrett 14 and Gentry 10, play basketball. They each had two games about 50 miles apart and not very close to home. After a long day, we settled in for the night when I was suddenly awoken by my water breaking at 2:00 am. We were completely shocked since I was only 33 weeks along. We made the hour drive to the hospital where Gemma Lynn was quickly born (less than an hour after we arrived at Cox). Gemma was happy and healthy, but her little 5 lb. body was not prepared for life outside the womb. Since it was flu season, our older children could not enter the hospital which required a lot of help from grandparents and often my husband and I being separate to care for all our children. One life-saver during this time was the Ronald McDonald House. Our family was familiar with it from our church being part of the Family Dinner Program before, but we never dreamed we would need the House ourselves.

I can’t imagine the financial burden that would have been placed on our family without RMH. The ability to do laundry, eat, and rest so close to little Gemma was a Godsend. We didn’t want our older children to feel neglected during this time, so during snow days from school they would stay with us and spend quality time. Furthermore, we bonded with families going through similar situations and made some lifelong friends. The House and those who support it will always have a very special place in our hearts. Sincerely, The Davaults Jeff, Courtney, Garrett, Gentry and Gemma
