This Journal considers how Viennese-born emigre designers in Australia negotiated the values of domestic design they had absorbed in the cities of Europe. The two articles "Vienna Abroad: Viennese interior design in Australia 1940-1949" by Harriet Edquist and "NUCLEUS meets the Minimum: Ernest Fooks and the flat in post-war Melbourne" by Philip Goad treat the migration and translation of Viennese modernism in Australia in different ways. Harriet Edquist posits the idea of Vienna Abroad to study a group of Viennese architects and designers active in Melbourne and Sydney in 1940s, while Goad traces the history of the idea of the small home back to Vienna in the 1920s,
