My two years at RMIT studying photo imaging gave me the confidence and knowledge that I needed to start out as a photographer and pursue my goals. The certificate IV and diploma gave me so much insight in terms of exploring different areas of photography, developing my technical skills, and deepening my understanding of the direction I want to follow within this profession.
The course provided me with a strong base of security, always having my teachers to rely on for their advice and experience. Coming from a different country, I found this kind of support especially tremendous. I felt welcomed and understood by my teachers and peers alike, and a fantastic community formed amongst us.
I was also presented with many opportunities during the course, including using the resources of the university, meeting industry professionals and participating in a study tour to Shanghai. All these experiences broadened my view and still help me on my path to this day.
After graduation I moved to Brisbane where I built my career as a freelance photographer, specialising in food and editorial photography. I work closely with restaurants and agencies, and my work has been featured in magazines including delicious. Australia, Indulge and Gourmet Traveller. From the course I gained the necessary skills – beyond the creative aspect – to run my business, work with clients and liaise with other professionals.
Overall I can’t be more appreciative for my time at RMIT. After so many years I still benefit from the knowledge and connections that I made there, and will always be thankful to have had this experience.
