It provides basic knowledge of the methods and techniques visual artists use to convey messages. This course also explores how graphic designers, filmmakers, photographers, marketers and advertisers use these methods and techniques to make their messages clear, concise, consistent and noticeable.

RMIT Vietnam partners with top local and regional communication agencies and departments to provide you with the most current materials and industry contacts via guest speaker sessions, field trips, mentors and program-exclusive internship opportunities.

You will work in a simulated editorial environment to develop professional writing according to industry-standard briefs.

CONTEXTUAL COURSES These theory-based courses extend your depth of understanding and help you address the rapidly changing world of communication. They cover the latest trends as well as explaining the underlying foundation of communication activities and phenomena. Modern Asia This course develops your understanding of Asian media and culture in preparation for further study in this area. You will critique the values of modernity and touch on the cultural, political, and economic and media development of Asia in the twenty-first century. You will develop skills in describing, researching and analysing examples of communication work using techniques and conceptual frameworks. You will also reflect on the ways different communication disciplines interpret and approach the world.

Communication Histories and Technologies In this course you will investigate the use and application of communication technologies in terms of their cultural, economic and political significance. You will focus on a range of traditional and digital technologies, analysing them through different frameworks. You will seek to answer questions such as: In what ways are technologies always social? How have older technologies adapted to more recent historical conditions and innovations? PROFESSIONAL COURSES These courses introduce you to the professional body of knowledge and practices in the communication industry. Public Relations Writing for the Media This course is designed to provide you with a foundation of knowledge that can be used across a range of media forms. These are broadly divided into the areas of: text, sound, image and moving image; and syntax and creativity. Specialist Public Relations Practice and Writing In this course you extend your knowledge into more specialised areas of professional practice and tools available to PR practitioners, aside from those of ‘conventional’ mainstream media relations activity.

Areas covered are: public relations writing; writing for more specialised forms of practice - consumer PR, crisis management, B2B public relations and other ‘niche’ fields of professional PR activity. Practice and Theory of Creativity This course develops your understanding of the creative process through advertising. It focuses on the creative (as distinct from management) perspective, and involves three interrelated activities: creation, production and evaluation. Areas covered are: creative theory; concept evaluation; production techniques; formats and processes; the advertising campaign; and creative strategy relevant to target markets and various media. Understanding Advertising Media Media planning and agency strategy planning make for two sides of a coin: strategy planning identifies what to say, and media planning identifies where to say it. In Understanding Advertising Media, you will learn about the many opportunities to get your message into the market place, including broadcast, print and digital media, as well as ‘nontraditional’ media such as product placement and guerrilla marketing.
