Autumn is awesome Live fall like there is no winter
AUTUMN IS MY FAVORITE SEASON—hands down. I might look forward to spring more after the long winter, but the crisp clear days and cool nights of fall energize me in a way that makes me feel fresh and alive. In my youth, it seemed that I read The Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings trilogy many falls. That’s when they set out on their adventures and I get that same longing for adventure that I did way back then. It’s a quieter sense now without all the urgency to explore vaster worlds, more of a contented restlessness if that makes any sense. I still love to get on the road, headed for points unknown, or even points well known but different than my everyday. In life too, autumn is a time of ripening, of remembering the thrill and confusion of the spring and gaining from the maturation of the summer. It might also be the best season of life. We have some idea of what we’re about. We might still be “in the game” making a living, but it’s seasoned with the experiences and lessons of earlier times. We might get a taste of winter from time to time and that helps us appreciate fall even more. If we’re lucky, we’re healthy enough to enjoy this best of seasons. Storms still arise, but we have many of the tools we need to weather them from our previous trials, so we’re not as shocked by them or thrown off our game. We know that storms pass. We also are no longer under the illusion that sunny days last forever, so again, we appreciate each and every one of them. This issue of Fifty & Better is chock full of ways to live fall to its fullest and to celebrate this time of year and of our lives. On the active side, find ideas for fall walks, fall foliage drives, elk bugling and preparing your garden for winter. If you’re thinking a bit bigger, our feature story by Linda Osmundson takes you on a tour of hot springs within a days drive of northern Colorado. Fall is perfect for outdoor soaking with cool days and evenings, but before the cold and snow of winter, which can make it trickier to get in and out of the that steamy goodness. Also, check out our Bounty feature by Katie Harris about ways to preserve the harvest. She suggests ways to freeze, can and dry the abundant produce of the summer to be enjoyed throughout the year. (I’m sure that a metaphor could be expanded from that, but…) I hope that you preserve your abundant harvest for as long as you can and enjoy this finest of seasons. Scott

Get a head start on holiday planning
ON A COLD FALL NIGHT, dig out your favorite recipes and plan for holiday entertaining. I love entertaining. We moved often so to meet the neighbors, I always held a Christmas Eve open house. The menu included three traditional recipes from my husband’s Slovakian roots. I seldom gave out these recipes so everyone looked forward to the event. They expected Porketta , a marinated, seasoned pork roast slow cooked and shredded for sandwiches, Potica, a rolled nut bread not easy to make and Polish sausage

ordered from Northern Minnesota butchers who followed Bob’s grandfather’s recipe. “Ozzie” sauce, my husband’s tangy mixture of Miracle Whip, horseradish and mustard, complimented the pork. Some new or tried-and-true recipes filled out the buffet menu. Rather than last-minute shopping trips, I watched grocery sales for my ingredients throughout the fall, then froze them. Plan ahead and enjoy the anticipation of bright and merry holiday entertaining.
Start a dinner, lunch or brunch club THE QUOTE ON THE WALL behind the kitchen table reads, “The fondest memories are made when gathered around the table.” Create your memories with friends by starting a dinner, lunch or brunch club. Why start a club? It provides a committed social engagement, especially during the long winter evenings. Decide how many people to invite; a total of eight is good. Host an organizational meeting or choose neutral ground like a restaurant. Make some decisions—will it be gourmet or casual, monthly, progressive, potluck or prepared by a different couple each time? Have fun with themes—Mexican, Italian, new recipes, creative Cajun, different countries or recipes from someone’s favorite cookbook. Should it be tried-and-true or new recipes? Choose the dates and mark the calendar. Let everyone bring containers to share leftovers. Keep it simple. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Remember the purpose—make memories, enjoy friends and food.
Winterize your garden THE COOLER WEATHER reminds us it is time to winterize your garden. Pull up dying plants, get rid of those showing signs of disease or insects. After the last killing frost, trim perennials to within 4 to 6 inches above ground. Discard any slimy leaves, remove all weeds and water well. Mulch with dead leaves or compost. Don’t mulch too early; it attracts mice. Wait for colder weather. Leave sunflowers, cornflowers, thistles and blackberry lily standing to provide winter bird nesting and homes for butterfly larvae. Plant spring blooming bulbs at a depth three times the size of the bulb, i.e. bury a one-inch bulb three inches. Leave your lawn longer and add a fall fertilizer. Replace wilting annuals with fall color plants such as mums or asters. Disconnect your hoses, blow out your sprinklers, cover the main valves, empty gas-powered equipment and clean tools. Now, relax and peruse catalogs for spring planting ideas.

Team of REALTORS® at The Group, Inc. are committed to serving you as your Senior Real Estate Specialists. When four licensed Realtors® at The Group, Inc. decided to form a team specializing in assisting aging clients, it was not only for business reasons, but for personal reasons as well. Each shared their personal experience dealing with the challenges of guiding an aging parent or loved one through the process of leaving their long term home for more age appropriate living arrangements. They knew they wanted to dedicate part of their business to assisting seniors and their family members with changing lifestyles, by providing options and resources that specifically meet those needs. Deanna McCrery, Carol Voorhis, Anna Ditorrice-Mull and Lisa Hite, all with The Group, Inc. in Fort Collins, are experienced residential REALTORS® working as a team to assist this market niche with their real estate needs. Benefits of Working with an SRES® Selling—Selling a home is rarely simple—and selling a senior’s home can add additional considerations and complexity. Your SRES® can modify some aspects of their marketing efforts to meet the individual needs of senior homeowners. Staging your home—Preparing your home for showing to the public is called staging. The goal is to put the home’s best foot forward to prospective buyers. Staging takes place before the For Sale sign goes up. Packing and moving—Moving from the family home can be overwhelming, especially if you are facing a lifetime of possessions and must make choices about what to bring and what to let go. These decisions can be paralyzing because each possession often triggers a walk down memory lane. Our pool of vendor resources can assist you with this process. Our team of SRES® designated REALTORS® is qualified to address the special needs of home buyers and sellers age 50+. Whether you or your family member is seeking additional information as you start this process, planning for the future and if you need immediate assistance with buying or selling a home, we can help. the maze of financial, legal and emotional issues that accompany the sale of the home. As Realtors® who have received the SRES designation, our team of four has the knowledge, experience and compassion in
seniors and their families. We understand the emotional demands and work to minimize those. We understand our interactions include not just the senior client but often adult children who may live in other states.

Catch some ZZZZs
NOTHING’S WORSE THAN waking up tired and dragging yourself through the day. As we age, our sleep patterns change. We tend to have a harder time falling asleep and staying asleep. Insomnia, snoring, restless leg syndrome and the inability to sleep in late are all common problems for older adults. What can you do to get a good night’s sleep? Try these tips. Cut out coffee by mid-afternoon. Did you know caffeine stays in your system for an average of 4 to 6 hours? A late afternoon coffee just might mean a late night awake. 16 |
Fifty&Better
Develop good sleep hygiene—go to bed at the same time each night, avoid screens, limit alcohol, dim the lights and no snacking before bed. If you do wake up during the night, don’t lie there and fret. Get up and read, listen to mellow music or do another quiet activity with the lights dim. Once you feel sleepy, crawl back in bed. Remember, just because you might get less sleep now than when you were younger doesn’t mean you need less. In fact, we need just as much if not more sleep as we age.
Take a fall walk
COOLER WEATHER is around the corner, inviting you outside to renew— or start—a healthy habit of walking. Walking daily not only helps you regulate your weight, but it has a whole slew of health benefits—and it’s cheap and easy to do!
If weight loss is your goal, speed it up and add hills. How many calories you burn depends on your weight, but on average people burn between 200 to 300 calories per hour on a flat surface going a regular walking pace. You can kick that up by over 50 percent by walking uphill
or by picking up the pace. Besides burning calories, walking boosts your mood and immune function, eases joint pain, strengthens your heart, helps you sleep better and gives you more energy. What are you waiting for? Tie up those tennis shoes and head out the door.
Vitamin D for better aging IF THERE IS ONE VITAMIN most doctors agree that we need to supplement, it’s vitamin D. Multiple studies show that we need vitamin D at nearly every age, but especially as we grow older. Vitamin D helps prevent osteoporosis and broken bones, lower the risk of cardiovascular problems and decrease the risk of some cancers, including breast cancer. Studies published by the National Institutes of Health show that older adults are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency than their younger counterparts. Sunshine is great, but many of us need more vitamin D than it can provide. The International Osteoporosis Foundation now recommends older adults take 800 to 1000 IU of vitamin D each day. To help with absorption, choose one with vitamin K.

Use of hearing aids in patients with normal hearing As I was listening to my patient’s symptoms, I thought, “Wow she must have a pretty severe hearing loss.” After a comprehensive hearing and cognitive evaluation, my patient had 10% hearing loss but failed the speech in noise test. As the name implies, this test gives you an indication of how well you can understand speech in a noisy environment. Clinically, I would not consider 10% hearing loss to be detrimental to patients, but in her case, she was not able to function. My patient has suffered from what is called Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) for decades. She has always struggled when more than one sound source was present and needed to remove herself from the competing sounds in order to
understand conversation. Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) is the reduced or impaired ability to discriminate, recognize or comprehend complex sounds, such as those used in words, even though the person’s hearing is normal. This means that the brain receives the information from the peripheral hearing system but has a delay in processing the information. CAPD may manifest as poor listening skills, poor reading comprehension or miscommunication that causes trouble when communicating with family, friends, co-workers, etc. My patient described it as “brain fog.” She heard what people were saying but could not process the information quick enough to keep up. A decade ago, I would have
never fit anyone with hearing devices for this issue. However, today’s technology is very fast and can give the brain proper information. I fit her with a pair of Brain Hearing TM devices from Oticon and within 2 weeks she reported feeling like she could participate even when competing sounds were present. Even people with normal hearing can benefit from the use of hearing devices. Susan Baker is the owner and operator of Advanced Hearing Services in Fort Collins. Viewing the fall foliage
ONCE SEPTEMBER ARRIVES, the aspens begin to glow. Fall is one of the best times to tour the northern Front Range. The leaves usually begin changing in early September and the beautiful colors last no longer than mid-October. It all depends on the weather, so be flexible and ready to travel. Fall foliage changes begin high up in the mountains and work its way down in elevation as the temperature gets colder. Splashes of yellow, orange and red all mingle along rolling country roads. Below are some drives listed from highest elevation to lowest. • Trail Ridge Road, Estes Park Winding high through the alpine countryside in Rocky Mountain National Park, colors fill the hillsides and 20 |
Fifty&Better
valleys nearly the whole way. • Buffalo Pass, Steamboat Springs Offering remarkable views of the rolling Routt National Forest, Buffalo Pass begins by winding through aspen groves almost immediately on its way up to Summit Lake. • Old Flowers Road, Stove Prairie Connecting Stove Prairie Road and Pingree Park Road, this four-wheel drive road (yet drivable by most any vehicle in the summer and fall) is close to the Front Range and filled with scenery of all types. Although much was burned in the High Park Fire, you’re still sure to catch mountain views and wildlife.
Elk bugling THE STRANGE AND MYSTERIOUS sound of elk bugling draws people of all ages to Rocky Mountain National Park each fall. And it must be heard to be understood. In late September, anywhere from 200 to 600 elk wander down from higher elevations just in time for mating season. From mid-September to mid-October, elk gather in the lower elevated meadow and the bull elk make attempts to attract cow elk by displaying their physique, musky odor, and bugling. For your best shot at the soundtrack to elk mating season, head to the park around dawn or dusk. You’ll have a fair chance of hearing bugling until mid-morning and late in the afternoon leading up to dusk. Dusk is the most popular time for bugle-seeking visitors to Estes Park, so go on a weekday morning if smaller crowds and less traffic is what you seek. As for where to go, Horseshoe Park, Moraine Park and Upper Beaver Meadows are prime elk viewing on the northeast side of the park near Estes Park. On the west side of the park near Grand Lake, try the Kawuneeche Valley/Harbison Meadows area.

Can safely THE ONLY THING BETTER than feasting on fresh, homegrown produce each summer is savoring the fruits (and veggies) of your labor all year long. Food preservation, the act of preventing microorganisms from growing, thus preventing food-borne illness, can be accomplished through a number of processes. The most common and user-friendly are freezing, dehydrating and canning. Freezing is a simple and straightforward process which typically involves blanching vegetables by placing them in boiling water for a short time, then bringing to a rapid cool. After chilling, the vegetables should be stored in the
Find help at these locations “Not all information on websites and in books is safe,” says Edie McSherry, a CSU Extension agent in the Larimer County office for food safety and food preservation education programs, “It’s important to look for tested, up-to-date recipes and instructions from credible sources.” Supplies to help preservers get started can be purchased locally at grocery stores, kitchen supply stores and box stores or online. McSherry recommends the following websites, all of which offer troves of information for aspiring food preservers: Ball brand website—www.freshpreserving.com National Center for Home Food Preservation—www.nchfp.uga.edu Colorado State University Extension—www.extension.colostate.edu/publications-2/
freezer in airtight containers to prevent the formation of ice crystals and freezer burn. Many varieties of fruit can be frozen in a single layer on a baking sheet before packaging. Edie McSherry, a CSU Extension agent in the Larimer County office for food safety and food preservation education programs says freezing is an ideal method when aiming to maintain the consistency of certain foods, for example, when preserving peaches to make a pie over the winter. The dehydrating method can be accomplished using a home oven or a dehydrator. The process involves removing the moisture from food by heating it
for a long period of time at a low temperature to prevent the growth of microorganisms. McSherry recommends this method when making food items such as jerky for a backpacking trip. Canning can be a slightly trickier method. Acidic foods such as tomatoes, fruits, relishes, jams and jellies don’t carry the risk of botulism when processed correctly through boiling water baths. For non-acidic foods, including most vegetables, pressure canning is required. According to McSherry, each method requires great attention to detail to be successful. “It’s really important to know your altitude and adjust accordingly or call
Fifty&Better | 25
the Larimer County Extension office for help when canning,” says McSherry. “Anywhere above 1000 feet requires canning processes to be adjusted. Our boiling point is lower so we add time during the boiling water bath, and we add pressure to compensate for our lower atmospheric pressure. This is really critical for safety.” However, despite the greater challenges with canning, McSherry says it’s a popular method because it doesn’t require electricity in storage the way freezing does, and it opens the door to a wide range of food preservation possibilities. “I recommend that a beginner start with something simple, like a jam,” she

says. “They quickly learn that they can move on to pickles, canned fruit and other items because they all use the same method.” According to McSherry, the most important thing to remember when preserving food is to find reliable information (see sidebar). McSherry and a group of Master Food Safety Advisor volunteers from the Larimer County Extension are available every Saturday from 8am-noon at the Larimer County Farmer’s Market in Old Town Fort Collins to answer questions and offer guidance in all aspects of food preservation. McSherry can also be reached by phone at 970-498-6000 or
by email at emcsherry@larimer.org. In addition, the Larimer County Extension offers classes on topics related to food preservation. To view and register for classes visit www.larimer.colostate. edu/food/food.shtml. With most methods of food preservation, the recommended shelf life is approximately one year, as foods begin to lose their color and nutritional quality after that time. “Preserving foods by freezing, dehydrating and canning makes them safe to keep in the freezer or on a pantry shelf,” says McSherry. “By understanding these methods we can enjoy produce throughout the year.”

Hot Springs RELIEVE PAIN, RELAX, SLEEP BETTER, BOOST BLOOD CIRCULATION AND ENJOY!
28 |
Fifty&Better
“IF I DIDN’T COME HERE every day, I’d be in a wheelchair” a woman told my friend as they soaked in a pool at Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. Improving range of motion and relieving pain are not the only reasons for soaking in mineral-loaded hot pools. Hot springs relax the body and promote sleep, boost blood circulation and even heal skin problems. Still, take some simple precautions. Remember long exposure to hot water combined with high altitude can cause dizziness, nausea and/or fainting. Check with your doctor before making reservations if you have medical conditions such as high blood pressure or heart conditions. Shower before and after each session. Limit soaking sessions to 10 minutes, then wrap yourself in a towel to sweat and cool down. Drink plenty of fresh water before, during and after your session. Don’t mix alcohol and hot water. Remove all silver jewelry as it will tarnish. Don’t soak alone. Good to go? Add these to your packing list–hiking shoes, bathing suit, flip-flops, oil-free sunscreen, a light jacket for evening and perhaps a mountain bike.
OJO CALIENTE, NEW MEXICO The resort offers massages, body wraps, yoga and skin care. Lodging ranges from quaint rooms in the historic hotel to rustic cliffside stucco cabins, RV parking and camping. Access to WIFI in all rooms, TV in some. Towels and robes are provided. From this high desert (6200 feet) drive about 50 miles north to Taos or south to Santa Fe. Try seasonal the Southwestern menu or consider international dishes in the hotel’s Artesian Restaurant. Find lighter fare in the Wine Bar and Lounge. Take advantage of hiking/biking trails. COLORADO HOT SPRINGS DESTINATIONS The Ute Indians discovered the healing waters of many Colorado hot springs. Some are near hiking/biking trails, historic places and small or big towns. Rates vary and most are open year-round. Travel may include rough roads over scenic passes. Google each
destination for more information. Consider all safety precautions before you hit the road. COTTONWOOD, BUENA VISTA Not the typical 4-5-star location, Cottonwood offers clean, quiet, comfortable, affordable lodgings. No phones, TVs or wireless interfere with a relaxing getaway to renew mind, body and spirit. Their “green” consciousness includes mattresses and bedding of natural materials, hot water heat and solar arrays. Bring a good book or peruse the library. No alcohol and, unlike other late-night springs, bathing suits are required. DUNTON HOT SPRINGS Located 30 miles southwest of Telluride, this restored 1800s ghost town resort boasts luxury prices, which include meals, beverages and hot springs. You can even rent the whole town for a corporate event! Stay in hand-hewn

log cabins surrounding a life-worn saloon (find signatures by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) and dance hall. Enjoy hiking trails, massages, and even wireless access. Colorado’s only geyser sprays its tepid sulfuric waters about every 45 minutes. GLENWOOD SPRINGS Soak in the world’s largest mineral hot springs pool just steps away from the 107-room lodge, downtown, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. The pool’s Sopris Splash Zone provides Shoshone Chutes, Hanging Lake and the Grand Fountain, all kid friendly. Glenwood hosts Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves. The mineral-rich steam, from the same water source as the hot springs, fills three caverns lined with marble benches and accessed by a staircase. Guests are advised to limit their sessions to 10-12 minutes, interspersed with cooling off periods. HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS Located on the West side of Rocky Mountain National Park, these springs offer a place to relax after skiing in Grand County. Water temperatures range between 95-112 degrees. During your stay, visit the Pioneer Village Museum, schoolhouse or Arapahoe National Forest. Fish in the Colorado River. MOUNT PRINCETON HOT SPRINGS Located between Buena Vista and Salida, the resort celebrates 140 years of odorless springs in Nathrop, Colorado. Rent the luxury cabin for large groups, or consider the cliffside hotel, cozy cabins, lodge or new Creekside Suites. Popular for weddings, family reunions and yoga retreats, the culinary team’s renowned exemplary catering delivers exceptional quality and service.

PAGOSA SPRINGS Great Pagosa Spring claims the distinction of being the world’s deepest geothermal hot spring. No one has ever measured all the way to the bottom! Open year-round, a hotel provides lodging. Once a month, proceeds from the bath house are donated to a staff-chosen charity. Choose from a variety of restaurants and menus.
STRAWBERRY PARK, STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Although accommodations include camping to cabins, the most comfortable is the train caboose. All other lodgings require your own bedding, food in a cooler, flashlights, seasonal gear and towels. Draining and cleaning of pools rotates each week on Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteering enriches life
Find something you love and give your time, talent and experience LINDA L. OSMUNDSON
“THE BEST PART OF BEING RETIRED, in addition to volunteering, is being able to spend time over lunch or coffee with friends. We joke that it’s the reason we retired . . . . we don’t have to race back to the office.” Utilizing her degree in forestry management, Kristeen Ortmann (aka Kris) joined the Forest Service and served in Oregon, Wyoming and Colorado. She early retired in 2008 after 36 years. A regular attendee for Loveland’s Rialto Theater’s shows, Kris recognized their need for help and volunteered in 2006. The small Rialto staff often expresses appreciation for its volunteers, without whom the theater could not manage. On her designated days, Kris checks the schedule to see if she’ll man the ticket box, entrances, concession or usher. She’s done them all! Kris heard a Cultural Services staff member mention the Loveland Museum/Gallery needed a volunteer 32 |

receptionist. She jumped at the chance and serves two half-days a week. A staple of the museum, her smiles greet visitors while she performs duties such as keeping spreadsheets for various staff members. Her volunteer job led to three terms on the Cultural Services Board since 2009. She still serves. One day Kris offered to make a “mountain man” coat for the museum’s Mariano Medina exhibit. Jennifer Cousino, Curator of History, loved the idea. She and Kris put their heads together on the fabric and fringe. They decided on a coat made from upholstery material. Kris actually made three coats in different sizes. “They were a ‘bear’ to work with, but they have held up well over the years ... and for lots for photo ops! More than a few grown-ups have tried them on, as well!” Kris spends many extra hours on museum events, especially History Days. The museum invites every Thompson
School District second grade class for a day of learning, discovery and fun at the museum, Rialto and Lone Tree school house. Over six days, she monitors workshops, leads children from the bus drop between the Rialto and museum and spends the afternoon at the park sessions. Kris doesn’t limit herself to the theater and museum. She adds city events like the Foote Lagoon Summer Concert Series, Cherry Pie celebration and Family Fun Halloween Festival. Between the museum, theater and city events, Kris has little spare time. She loves to read. “My friends tease me about my bookcases full of books.” If asked for a preference, she hesitates, then suggests “good historical fiction.” Yet, she reads all genres. Kris also spends time gardening. Kristeen Ortmann wishes everyone could find something they love, give their time and talent and experience life enrichment as she has.

Signature Gifts
What talents, qualities, attributes do you contribute? CAN YOU IDENTIFY YOUR ‘signature gifts’—qualities, attributes, talents that carry throughout your life, ways of being that come naturally, reflecting your genuine self ? My colleague, Ron Pevny, director of the Center for Conscious Eldering (www.centerforconsciouseldering.com), wrote recently about ‘signature gifts’, gifts that bring you most alive, reflect the best of who you are. These ‘soul gifts’ are personal qualities, ways of living, talents others are often quick to name when thinking of you. He suggests identifying and honoring how your ‘signature gifts’ directly relate to your finding meaning and aliveness in your later years. These gifts are likely not limited to knowledge or skills necessary to perform your life work. And they do not ‘retire’ when you scale back your work hours or do retire. In fact, they may have greater chance of blossoming beyond your most stressful working years. These are the gifts you offer to those around you and the world that ‘keep giving’. David Brooks in a 2015 New York Times column spoke of ‘résumé virtues’ and ‘eulogy virtues’. “Résumé virtues” relate more to accomplishments and career success. “Eulogy virtues’ are aspects of one’s life talked about at your funeral… how others remember and cherish you. After climbing career ladders, forming family, building a financial base, how well we live the second half of life, find meaning and purpose in living, may closely relate to how well we know our ‘soul gifts’ and find ways to live and express them. It’s often easier to recognize ‘signature gifts’ in others than to identify one’s own. Although it may be difficult to put into words the ‘signature gifts’ of others…what you appreciate about them… 66 |

it is always a gift to them to make your best attempt, even if just a word, an image, or a story you share:
• Kindness, compassionate, always there when needed • Organized, present, good listener, affirming, positive, helpful, willing to share resources, attending to details, passionate for justice, creative • One who says “yes” to life, a contagious “let’s do this” attitude • One with the ability to build or fix anything, but more importantly, quick to offer his time to help you with your project • The physician who has always had the heart for the underserved and, even in retirement, offers her time and knowledge to expand healthcare to those in need • The listener who takes the time to be present, affirming, understanding—a calming influence, offering wise counsel • One who asks the necessary questions, clarifies how to proceed in a difficult situation • One who sees the big picture, the mystic, helping release what you do not need to carry
• The professor whose natural eye for nature photography blossoms into a hobby for many to enjoy • One who is honest, tells it like it is, opening up new possibilities • One who lights up the room with a smile making all feel better
In identifying our own ‘signature gifts’, Pevny suggests some helpful ideals:
• Review your life, identify situations when you felt most alive, fulfilled, authentic. • Ask several people who have known you over years to describe what they see as your ‘signature gifts’. • Write a short eulogy enumerating qualities that stand out throughout your life. • Reflect upon your various jobs, identifying underlying gifts you brought to your work that distinguished you from others.
Let’s not wait until funerals to appreciate what we value about others or to embrace our own ‘signature gifts’. Why not get some clarity, live them out, bring our best selves forward, and share our gifts with the world. Each of us, and the world, will be better for it.
