The Curse of my Perpetual Youth
I
f you’ve met me you were probably taken with my boy-ish good looks !
I have carried this burden of perpetual youth with me for my whole life. Now I know what you’re thinking... that a youthful appearance is a blessing, and I do agree, but let me also tell you.... it does come at a price. Sure I was able to get away with things when I was a kid. Not only because I looked younger than I was, but I was also very short for my age at the time. “Oh he’s just a little kid” was often the response to my many antics, plus no one wanted be known as the guy that beat up the smallest kid in school. I’m not sure if being in that position during those formative years affected my eventual development or not. Surely I’m not the same smart mouthed, disruptive kid anymore..... am I ? None the less, when I finally turned 19, I went straight out and got a bar card ! I still looked 14 years old at that time and had been attempting to sneak into bars and create fake ID for a couple years, with very limited success. Now I was in, baby ! I carried that card with me every day and used it at every bar and liquor store for years. Eventually I was getting “carded” less frequently, especially if I didn’t shave for a couple days, but clean shaven... I was back to being 16 again ! The last time that I was questioned at a liquor store, I was 25 years old. The last time I was asked for ID at a bar I was 34 years old, and yes, just freshly shaved.
RM of Montrose No. 315 FOR SALE BY TENDER
Since those days I have been enjoying, seemingly without penalty, the blessing of decades of youthful good looks, as I head toward my 59th birthday this July ......until othe other day that is.
1. The RM of Montrose offers for sale by tender tax enforcement properties;
Shortly after the golf courses re-opened this summer, I went to shoot nine holes with a retired friend of mine that is 65 years old. When I was paying for our round the cashier asked me if my friend, not me, was a senior, as he would get a reduced green fee rate. I though it was nice of her to try to save us some money and told her that he was a senior. She replied “Oh, so he’s over 55 then ?” At that moment I realized that senior rates were not actually 65 years and older and that I have been paying the full rate for four years too long !
Lots 21-23 Block 2 Plan G106 in Hamlet of Laura The above noted property is sold as is. Minimum tender: $1,933.66
Damn this perpetual youth ! Not only had I got screwed around back when I was under age, but must I now start paying the price for this youthful beauty again ? I’m not sure how I feel about this, but the seemingly immortal Billy Crystal’s character from Saturday Night Live probably sums it up best for me... “it’s not how you feel, baby, it’s how you look... and darling, you look marvelous”. I guess I can live with that ! “Oh Lord it’s hard to humble, when your...... well, you know ;-) Happy Canada Day Ken Sowter Editor

Trudeau's Unprincipled Foreign Policy
his week, Prime Minister Trudeau’s five-year, multi-million dollar vanity project came to a crashing halt.
The Liberals were so desperate to hold onto these votes that Trudeau even refused to condemn the slave labour used in Qatar to build a soccer stadium when asked to by Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer.
On Wednesday, the vote for the UN Security Council seats took place, where Canada placed third out of three; the other two being Ireland and Norway.
For five years the Liberals have had an appeasementbased foreign policy with dictators and despots around the world. For example, while Prime Minister Trudeau claims to be an advocate for human rights, he was far too willing to turn a blind eye to violations of those rights for even a possibility of one more vote.
The “principled” foreign policy of this Liberal government since 2015 has been to do whatever it takes to get votes for a temporary two-year position. This has resulted in attempts to please every country, even if it meant throwing away Canadian principles.
“Canada is back…” he said in 2015. I doubt our allies would agree.
Just days after Iran shot down a passenger jet killing dozens of Canadians, the Prime Minister was pictured smiling, bowing his head, and shaking hands with the Iranian foreign minister.
We must change our foreign policy to, once again, standing up for Canadian principles at home and abroad. We must be fighting for the good of the world; human and religious rights, not the approval of the United Nations. We should act on wisdom, not personal whims.
At every turn he has tried to appease the Chinese Communist Party government despite the arbitrary detention of Canadian citizens, and their atrocious human and religious rights record.
Be assured, the Conservatives will continue to advocate for a principled foreign policy, and a principled government for Canadians.
In mid-February of this year, he put a $10 million package into Senegal’s oil industry. This came after the Liberals passed Bill C-48 and C-69, legislation now that will kill our own oil industry, as well as the protests which he allowed to take the country hostage.

The Village has made the decision that all recreation buildings will remain closed until further notice. This includes the hall and archery range. An update will be provided as the province lifts more restrictions. The Village of Vanscoy municipal office is now open, however, online payments continue to the be the recommended method of payment. Taxes will be levied and notices will be mailed the first part of July. There will be no change in the municipal or school mill rates for 2020. Vanscoy & District Ag Society Congratulates Bursary Recipient, Reminders for the Future
T
his year the Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society offered a bursary of $1000.00 to a worthy Grade 12 student that plans on furthering their education at a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2020. We received applications from exemplary students in the RM of Vanscoy which made our decision extremely difficult. After much discussion, we selected Keela Corey. We congratulate Keela on her many successes she has had over the years and wish her all the best in her future endeavours at post secondary school.
The Vanscoy & District Agricultural Society would also like to remind everybody that we are not holding our Annual Fair at Fall Fest this year. Planning for the event has been discontinued due to the safety concerns and orders from Public Health regarding the number of people at large gatherings. We do hope that you can continue your gardening and craft work in a happy and safe setting at home. We also cannot wait to work with the Delisle & District Recreation Association again next year as well as celebrate with everyone at the fair in 2021.
