Havergal College Exchange Visit Our visitors from Havergal have had a busy and fun-filled fortnight with us and we bid farewell to them tomorrow. Thank you to the host families who have given them such a warm welcome and looked after them so well! During their stay, the girls had a chance to visit The Making of Harry Potter at the nearby Warner Bros Studios, as well as take part in daily RMS life. The return leg of the exchange programme departs in three weeks time, and we will bring you updates on what our girls are getting up to there then. We wish the Havergal girls a safe journey home!

SCHOOL NEWS Dorothy Mortimer Watson Centenary Memorial A special service was held in the Chapel on Monday to commemorate a former pupil, Dorothy Mortimer Watson, who died exactly 100 years previously on active service in WWI on March 13th 1917. She was with the Territorial Force Nursing Service in Malta and had left the School in 1904. Honoured guests included Sue Bush, Col Comdt QARANC (the service that TFNS became later); another former pupil, Anne Grimwood, who had been a QARANC officer and who left the School sixty years after Dorothy; the Director from the Library and Museum of Freemasonry and Mr & Mrs Greep from Harrogate where Dorothy had lived and worked before transferring to Malta. Pupils had researched and produced creative work on the topic. This formed the central part of a school assembly tied in with International Women’s Day. Dorothy’s name is commemorated on a WWI plaque at Harrogate hospital and now she is remembered at her alma mater, the plaque being unveiled on the centenary of her death.

SCHOOL NEWS “Bang goes RMS” on Thursday, 26 April 2017 The Senior School Science Department, with the support of FORMS, would like to invite you and your family & friends for a fun and exciting evening featuring two Science ambassadors from STEM NET and a series of science demonstrations carried out by current pupils and Science staff. STEM ambassadors use their enthusiasm and commitment to encourage young people to enjoy STEM subjects. They open the doors to a world of opportunities and possibilities which come from pursuing STEM subjects and careers. STEM Ambassadors not only inspire young people, they also support communities by explaining current applications of STEM in industry or research. Other highlights will include Mr Dacanalis making a Hello Kitty “scream” and Sixth Formers making elephant toothpaste. We aim to generate (even more) excitement for the Sciences by promoting both A Level studies and future careers beyond RMS. The evening will start at 7.00pm in the Great Hall and it is free of charge but there will be a collection for the School Charity at the end, should you wish to contribute. If you would like to join us for this celebration of Science please send an email to Pippa Hopkins (phopkins@royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk) and indicate the number of people attending. We hope to see many of you and we recommend it to all age groups from Year 1 to Year 13. Mrs Z Sears Acting Head of Science

After tough games in both the A and B tournaments, against Parmiters, St Michael's, Rickmansworth and Watford Girls Grammar, both teams were tied at the tops of their groups (with Parmiters and WGGS), so it came down to goal difference - and a close win for both RMS teams!
