MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPLAIN Mindfulness Course for Parents 28th September—23rd November 2017 I am once again offering a Mindfulness course run by Gayle Creasey. This will be in Michaelmas Term on eight Thursday evenings from 28th September until 23rd November (excluding Half Term) and a full day on 11th November. Gayle will run a Foundation course that is one and a half hours each evening and the amount of home practice suggested is more manageable than some approaches. Please find attached to this email a letter from Gayle that includes her contact details to discuss this further, or by all means address any queries to me. You will have heard me say before how beneficial I believe Mindfulness can be, and work in School with Year 8 girls and more recently Year 6 girls has been valuable. I will repeat this invitation at the beginning of the new School year, but an indication of any interest now would be helpful

Confirmation The Bishop of St Albans is coming to School on Sunday 25th March 2018 to conduct a Confirmation Service. If your daughter/ward will be in Year 6 or above in the new School Year 2017/18 and you and she would like her to be prepared for Confirmation by me ready for the service on that date do please let me know. I shall run classes during Hilary Term (possibly starting in Michaelmas Term) and it will be useful to have an idea of interest fairly soon Polite Reminder! SCHOOL NEWS Year 7 History and Classics Trip to St Albans On 13th June, all of Year 7 visited the Roman town of St Albans. We were all very excited about this trip, as Year 8 had told us how much they had enjoyed it last year! We were split into three groups and set different activities throughout the day. The first activity I took part in was to look around the ruins of the Roman theatre. This was extremely interesting, and there were many different information boards to read, telling us about the structure of the theatre, what it was used for, how many people it seated and the types of plays that would have been performed there. There was also a piece of original artwork showing the theatre in its original form. Although the theatre is obviously now only ruins, we could all really imagine how it would have looked in Roman times.

The next place we discovered was Verulamium Museum. I particularly enjoyed this because of all the beautiful mosaics and artwork scattered around as well as all the information about Roman life. We were also lucky enough to watch a very interesting video clip about the Romans and all about the time they inhabited what is now St Albans.

Finally we visited the hypocaust, which is a Roman underfloor heating system. I think we were all amazed by just how advanced Roman engineering was! Mr Young even told us a horrific story about it‌ Overall, I thought the trip was incredible and really helped me to understand the lives of the Romans a lot more. Thank you to Mr Grogan and Mr Young for organising the trip, and to all the staff who accompanied us. You can see more of our photos from the trip here.

SPORTS NEWS District Athletics Over 45 girls from Year 7 to Year 10 took part in the District Athletics on the hottest day of the year. All the girls performed to a very high standard; many of them were competing in their first competition. Special mention must go to all the girls who ran in the 1500m and 800m in exceptional circumstances. Despite the heat we had many girls crowned District Champions including: Carys A Year 7 800m Maya S Year 7 Long Jump Eleanor M Year 7 100m Freya W Year 8 Hurdles Grace I Year 9 800m Jane Williamson Year 9 1500m Zuriel O Year 10 100m Neneh, Jasmine, Katie D and Zuriel Year 10 relay. Overall the Year 7 team finished 2nd and all the other age groups 4th and RMS finishing in 3rd place overall out of over 10 schools. Well done to everyone who took part!

County League Athletics This week saw our last County League match against Haberdashers Girls’ who were on similar points as us. Unfortunately we had to compete with a very depleted team but despite this both the U14's and U16 team finished 2nd and now qualify for the Cup final on Tuesday 4th July.

Rounders RMS vs Aldenham Year 9 A Team drew 7/12 - 7/12 Year 9 B Team won 21 1/2 - 8 1/2 Year 10 Team won 12 1/2 - 9 1/2
