On the dates listed below, there will be additional coaches in the car park due to “away matches” for sports fixtures. All coaches are scheduled to leave at 4.00pm and with the usual school run coaches, this will inevitably have an impact on available space in the Main Car Park.

The coaches for the sports fixtures have been asked to park alongside the Chapel and be in place by 3.00pm. Girls will be reminded where to pick up their relevant coach. The Readybus and ALM coaches will be waiting in the Main Car Park in their usual parking spaces.

SCHOOL NEWS E-Safety Event—Monday 29th January An e-safety message will be delivered alongside some entertainment on Monday 29th January 2018 to all Senior School pupils. ‘The Shades’, a relatively new boy band, will perform some songs and will also discuss e-safety issues and deliver e-safety education. Hopefully, this will be both entertaining and informative and leave a lasting impression on the pupils.

Online safety is always at the top of our agenda, yet the girls can often 'switch off' to our safety messages and we strive to find innovative and interesting ways to communicate the importance of this topic. We look forward to hearing from 'The Shades' on Monday! You can find out more about the band on YouTube and Facebook Mrs Bomford Deputy Head—Pastoral

Life Skills Evening—Mindfulness in Schools Monday 5th February 7.00-9.00pm As a reminder, we are running a Life Skills Evening on Monday 5th February for parents of girls in Years 7 to 11, focussing on the subject of Mindfulness in Schools. Rev Quill will speak about the use of Mindfulness in schools, and specifically at RMS, but more importantly will give attendees a taster of what pupils have been learning; he will also discuss ways that parents may get involved and practise themselves and how parents can support their daughters in using Mindfulness to support their own emotional wellbeing. If you are able to attend the evening and have not already replied, please could you do so via the CHQ invitation email you received on 18th January. Thank you. Mrs McCurdy, LifeS kills Co-ordinator

SCHOOL NEWS Lindsey Cole Visit—Courage to Challenge Yourself During her visit to RMS last week, as well as addressing the Senior School assembly about her adventures, Lindsey Cole also ran a lunchtime workshop, during which she spoke to a number of girls who had applied for a place. Here are just some of the thoughts of the girls involved: Jane, Year 10: Last Friday, RMS welcomed a guest speaker, Lindsey Cole, to present a lunchtime workshop and then a whole school assembly about the adventures she's had and how doing them, and so stepping out of her comfort zone and challenging herself, has changed her as a person. The main one that she told us about was her trek in Australia - inspired by the true story of three young girls, who fled a restricting way of life following the famous Rabbit Proof Fence and traced their way home - where she too followed the Fence to recreate their poignant journey. This took her all of 10 weeks to complete, and she told us that it was her favourite of all her adventures - bearing in mind she has also hitchhiked around Australia with lorry drivers, cycled the length of Africa and run to Manchester with a ukelele to see friends, this is quite an accolade! We heard about how she helped to reunite an emu family and met a group of camels, as well as getting completely lost in the Australian bush - in all of these she kept a determined, positive attitude that helped to make her trek such a huge success. Overall, I loved hearing about her zest for life and adventurous spirit that had helped her to have so many amazing, life-enriching experiences....I'm now looking forward to hearing about her next adventure (which she said might be to walk along the Fence again, but without food, water or GPS...) Zara, Year 8: I found Lindsey Cole an adventurous and daring person who really demonstrates the value courage to challenge oneself. She is an adventurous person who inspires you to challenge yourself, to always follow your dreams, and let nobody get in the way of them. Winnie, Sixth Form: Participating in the workshop with Lindsey Cole was unforgettable. I have never seen anyone display so much courage to challenge themselves and explore the world. I was so impressed by Lindsey’s courage. I think the most remarkable thing she said was: 'Only people who have no dreams will tell you that your dream won’t come true— so go and chase your dream as it might become reality.' I really want to thank you Lindsey Cole for coming as this gave me courage to try out new things and to explore more of the UK and not just stay in the boarding house! Cheryl, Sixth Form: The workshop was really inspiring and had led me to think about what my own adventures would be like! It was a pleasure having lunch with Lindsey and hearing about her phenomenal life experience! 'Kareena, Sixth Form: The experience with Lindsey Cole was hugely inspiring: the way she showed compassion towards her aspirations and experiences motivated me to change my lifestyle, and my way of thinking to having a more positive view towards any challenges I may experience or adventures that would require me to leave my comfort zone. Many thanks for the opportunity!

SPORTS RESULTS NETBALL RMS vs vs St Clement Danes Under 13 Team won 12-11 POTM Annabelle T This was an extremely tight match between both halves. Commitment to the ball was shown by everyone, and the match was a great team effort by all, as all the girls were passing the ball into space and seeing the opportunities in the shooting circle. It was a tense match to watch but the players and coaches were really pleased that we came away with the win. RMS vs Berkhamsted Year 9 A Team lost 14-34 Year 8 B won 14-13 The year 9 netball team faced strong competition from Berkhamsted School last week. The A team faced a very effective Berkhamsted attack and worked extremely hard in defence. By the end of the game the girls were using advanced tactics and in the final quarter were starting to match Berkhamsted goal for goal. Unfortunately RMS lost 14-34 but they played some excellent netball and the MVP was Steph Bryer. The B team again faced tough competition but used the tactics they have learnt in training to take the lead. They continued to play at a high standard and held the lead to win 14-13 with MVP going to Katie A. Year 10 District Netball Tournament The Year 10A and B netball teams took part in the district netball tournament this week. Both teams played extremely well and worked hard to input their set plays. Whilst the B team faced some tough opposition, the A team had a very close match against St Clement Danes and won 7-6. Overall, the A team came second only losing to Habs and the B team came third. Well done to all the girls who played. RMS v North London Collegiate The Senior A team were unlucky to lose by just one goal against NLCS. Players’ player Talia and Coaches’ player Jess. The Year 11 team put in their best performance of the season to beat NLCS 15 - 3. Players’ player Neneh and Coaches’ player Ella

SPORTS RESULTS HOCKEY RMS vs Watford Girls’ Grammar: District Match Under 14 Team won 7-0 POTM Hattie N Weather conditions were a lot better this time around and this worked in our favour. A slow start to the game as the girls took their time to pass the ball around the space and send it into the D. Passing and communication helped to ensure the girls were moving up the pitch and helping the ball advance towards the goal. Great goals scored by many different girls in the team. Special mention to Hattie who dribbled the ball into space and sent the ball in for the forwards to score goals. Great effort girls! FOOTBALL RMS vs Westfield Under 13 Team Won 7-3 POTM The whole team This was the first competitive match for the U13 squad consisting of a mixed group of Year 7 and 8 players. Our fantastic forward trio made up of Carys, Maeva and Aleena scored the goals between them. Midfield was made up of Darcey and Sophie who helped to keep the ball up front. Dedicated defending team who cleared the ball and marked their players were Emily, Hannah, Sophie and goal keeper Annie. Excellent team effort by all and a really enjoyable match to watch. TRAMPOLINING Three Rivers Trampoline Competition We took 13 girls making up two teams and one individual. Years 7-11 mixed age group teams. We entered level two and level three and won both events. Our individual was Elena competing in elite and she won, making us team and individual champions. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support the team—it was much appreciated by everyone who took part!
