SCHOOL NEWS TWO Free tickets for Night of Adventure, London Tuesday 13 March, 7.00pm – 10.30pm (doors open 6.30pm) UCL Institute of Education, London WC1H 0AL Lindsay Cole (who recently visited the School and spoke in assembly to the girls) has been in touch and wishes to offer 2 free tickets to attend the event below where she is speaking. Hear from first-class explorers, daredevils and pioneers as they share their captivating stories of exploration, escapism and wonder at this sell-out event. Each speaker will be limited to just 20 slides to accompany their tales, shown on a huge screen, each slide leaving the screen after just 20 seconds. It’s fast. It’s furious. But ultimately, it’s a chance to be swept away to a world filled with adventure, all without leaving your seats. With this unusual and challenging presentation format, once the talks begin there is no stopping or going back, the audience must be ready to be swept from adventure to adventure! The adventurers: Alastair Humphreys – an adventurer, author and recipient of National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year award for his pioneering work on the concept of Microadventures. Alastair will host the evening. Ben Saunders – one of the world’s leading polar explorers who recently attempted a solo, unsupported and unassisted crossing of the Antarctic Continent. The Overlanding Family – a family with two young children and a dream to explore the globe, by truck. Charlie Walker – a British adventurer specialising in human powered expeditions, who has travelled across Mongolia on a semi-wild pony. Anna McNuff – endurance athlete and self-proclaimed ‘mischief maker’, Anna recently spent 184 days pedalling her bike 5,500 miles across the Southern Andes. James Forrest – this ‘Mountain Man’ recently tacked 446 mountains in England and Wales, in just 6 months! Ben Page – an avid cyclist who has travelled across five continents on two wheels. Robert Twigger – an author and illustrator with views on how to put adventure back into everyday life. Tim Howell – a Royal Marine Commando with a passion for climbing, mountaineering and Wingsuit BASE jumping. Lindsey Cole – an adventurer who was inspired to follow the Rabbit Proof Fence. Lisa Trollope and Libby Kerr – a pair who recently completed a continuous self-propelled journey across 282 mountains in Scotland. Click here for more information

SCHOOL NEWS Young Enterprise Success Well done to RMS Young Enterprise teams on a successful weekend at last weekend's trade fair at INTU Watford. "Cment" came away with the Best Customer Service award, and Black Bottle & Co with a trio of awards - Best Company, Best Stand and Best Environmental Product. well done to both companies and good luck with the next stages of the competition

SCHOOL NEWS Food and Nutrition News It has been a busy couple of weeks in the Food and Nutrition Department. Following an approach by a school in Slovenia via the eTwinning network, Mrs Clivaz and her Year 7 and 8 students have been taking part in a research project which compares the sugar content of British and Slovenian sweets! The two schools exchanged and tasted each others’ sweets (the lavender flavour chocolate from Slovenia got mixed reviews…), and calculated the amount of sugar per 100g of each, and what proportion of a recommended daily intake of sugar this represented.
Also this week, Year 11 GCSE Food and Nutrition students were treated to a masterclass in garnishing techniques from a chef from West Herts College. The girls learnt a variety of skills, and commented how useful it had been, even using one of the techniques in their practical exam the following day. The girls were shown how to elevate their presentation from “domestic” to “professional”

SCHOOL NEWS GCSE DT “Open Studio” This week the Design and Technology Department opened their doors for the annual “Open Studio” showcasing the work of GCSE students to visiting students, parents and staff.

PERFORMING ARTS Lower School Production of “Oliver!� Following many weeks of rehearsal, the girls showed of a range of skills across singing, dancing and some excellent detailed acting. Helena and Jhanvi shared the lead role, but were joined by a wonderful cast including two Sixth Form students, Tally as Fagin and Florence as Bill Sykes. Mr Broome again took a role as Mr Bumble. Ms Flatto's vision came to life to a large appreciative audience, and the band, including Mr McCall on the piano and conducted by Musical Director Mr Hagyard gave the performance a fitting amount of 'Oom-Pah-Pah', as Nancy would sing! All the girls deserve massive congratulations for producing such a professional performance. Mr Hyde

SPORTS RESULTS HOCKEY Year 9 Hockey vs Queenswood B Won 8-0 POTM Betsy G Another very cold match played which would decide if we progress through as winners or runners up of the County Cup pool. The first goal was scored within seconds of starting and many more followed from most of the team. Therefore, we now progress through as Winners of Pool B and will play the semi-final on Tuesday 13th March at Queenswood. Good luck girls! NETBALL Year 8B Netball v Queens Won 20-4 POTM Issie S Great team effort by everyone. The ball was passed around the court and each player moved into space. Great shooting and defending. Fantastic result in freezing conditions. Year 9 Netball A team vs Parmiters won 42-9 MVP was Nia M-J The Year 9 A Team s faced Parmiters this week in the district league. RMS dominated the game from the start and had a strong lead after the first quarter. After half time RMS showed their versatility by playing in a variety of positions. Year 9 Netball B team—District League The Year 9 B Team played in their final two District League matches this week. They faced Queens first and won with a fantastic score line of 22-3 with Kayla Keyser being awarded MVP. In their second game they played Parmiters and again played some excellent netball to win 34-4 and the MVP was Bea Vane. The year 9 B's have been undefeated in the league this year and have retained their title as District Champions. Congratulations to the whole team. Year 10 A and B Teams vs Parmiters—District League Both teams played against Parmiters this week in the district league. The A team faced tough opposition with the first quarter ending 11 all. The girls continued to fight hard to gain interceptions and once they took the lead in the third quarter, they stayed strong winning 17-16. The B team started well, gaining many interceptions early on in the game. They demonstrated strong passing skills and good communication skills to win 12-10.
Year 7 A and B Teams vs Aldenham A team won 18 - 0 B team won 11 - 3 Both teams quickly got into their stride and played some excellent netball, giving the shooters plenty of opportunities to score. Unfortunately due to time restraints we were only able to play three quarters. As the A team were so far ahead they changed round positions at half time and the girls enjoyed this experience.

SPORTS RESULTS Gymnastics Last weekend was a busy one for RMS gymnasts as they took part in the Milano competition on Saturday and the Acro competition on Sunday. The girls wowed the audience with their creative trio, pair and group routines and performed some excellent vaults, tumbles and individual floor routines. Whilst the Under 11 team came third in the Milano competition, the Under 13, Under 16 and Under 19 teams all came first in the Milano competition. All the teams made it through to nationals. In the Acro competition, the Under 11 and Under 14 groups came 3rd, and the Over 14 group came 1st and are through to nationals in May. Talia and Ynes came 2nd in their tumbling and are through to nationals. Mia and Sophia came 2nd in their pair and Charlotte and Isabella came 3rd for their pair. Well done to all the girls who took part.

FORMS NEWS FORMS AGM 14th March Our AGM is coming up on the 1st March and all parents are welcome to attend. At this meeting, we will be re-electing several committee members; some are due to be re-elected as per our constitution, and others are going to be re-elected because current officers are stepping down. After many years of dedicated service, our esteemed Secretary Penny Smee and our most treasured Treasurer Jon Bishop are stepping down at this AGM and so FORMS is in urgent need of volunteers who would like to get involved in our community and help raise extra funds for our school. These positions are key to our functioning. So if you have ever thought that you had some great fundraising ideas or simply would like to have a say in how FORMS works, then please get in touch on forms.chair@gmail.com. Re-election happens at our AGM on the 14th of March so the entries would need to be in by the end of this month. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
