SCHOOL NEWS Havergal Exchange 2018
In March and April 2018, Francesca, Millie and Roxy in Year 9 embarked on an international exchange with Havergal College in Toronto, Canada. RMS has had links with this school for the past thirty years and the girls were able to experience and contribute to life there in April having hosted their Canadian partners here in March. This is what our students had to say about the reasons they applied for the programme and what they have gained from it: Francesca: “I chose to go on this trip because I am interested in Canadian culture and I wanted a chance to practise my French, although we went to Toronto so there wasn’t much opportunity.” Millie: “I wanted to go because it looked really interesting and fun!” Roxy: ”I applied for this trip as I am interested in the difference in our cultures and schooling systems, as well as the people. It’s no secret nor lie that the Canadians are lovely people. We all had an amazing time.”

SCHOOL NEWS
The Canadian students spent two weeks here, living with us and going to school with us. We also took them on trips outside of school to show them the culture of England, for example, high tea and Windsor Castle. RMS also organised a school trip to Madame Tussauds followed by a workshop with a British actor at Regent’s University.

SCHOOL NEWS We arrived at Pearson airport, Toronto, on the 7th of April. We were quite scared to be spending two weeks in an unfamiliar house in an unfamiliar country but everyone was lovely. The airline staff were all really kind and they made sure we were all right travelling on our own.
We went to school there and lived with our partners. The school was really fun and they did a lot of lessons we hadn’t done before. There were five exchange students from Scotland there at the same time as us and they were really nice and friendly We all went on really cool trips like going to the CN tower and Niagara Falls, seeing a Blue Jays baseball game, a Raptors basketball game, and going to a school ball! However whilst those of you that stayed here in England enjoyed what has been predicted to be the hottest day this year in Britain, it was -5 degrees celsius and snowing in Toronto! Havergal College organised a trip to Casa Loma, one of Canada’s only castles, and it was only built last century! We found that quite strange, coming from a country that’s nearly a thousand years old compared to Canada’s 150 years.

SCHOOL NEWS
We were really sad to go but it was good to be home. We were very tired and jet lagged afterwards but luckily we still had four days before we had to go back to school. We have all kept in touch with our exchange partners after having a wonderful time with them, and all intend to meet up with each other again. We would definitely recommend this trip to any Year 8s thinking about it. We had an amazing time and learnt a lot from a Canadian school and about Canadian culture. We would definitely do it again if we had the chance as it was an incredible opportunity and experience.” And here is what Elina, Francesca’s partner, had to say about the exchange: “The culture of RMS is very different from the culture of our school. There are lots of differences but also many similarities. Being in RMS really allowed me to experience the daily routines and the life in another school. What I really liked was that the teachers and students didn't change what they were doing or alter their daily routines for me. I was just another student in the class, and I really liked it, since it allowed me to be a part of the class and participate actively in class. Overall, I think life in RMS definitely allowed me to enjoy and experience another school's culture”
The Havergal exchange is now open for current Year 8s to apply and information has been communicated through CHQ. Our Year 9 girls are very happy to speak about their positive experience to anyone interested in applying.

Second place went to Maria B for her photo of the bears, and third place to Immi O for the penguins. Highly commended were Isabella M (butterfly), Rachael X (tiger) and Lexie C (also a butterfly)

RMS SPORT Athletics Results County League In the final league match of the season on Monday, the Under 14 Girls came 3rd and Under16 Girls 2nd. This meant that the U14’s finished the season in 10th and the U16’s won the league (the first time we’ve ever won!). They will compete in the league final on 3rd July. English Schools Track and Field Cup Regional Final The Under 16 team competed in Chelmsford against some of the top schools is the country. They performed very well scoring 374 points. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough to make the National Final, but still very respectable considering we were missing our highest points scorer, Amelia, due to injury. We wish her a speedy recovery.

SUMMER HOLIDAY ACTIVITY BLAG Youth Theatre Summer School As we head towards the Summer I am sure some parents will be keen to find a fun and creative activity for their children. At Blag we offer a full two week performing arts program that culminates in a production at the Elgiva Theatre. Over the last 20 years we have had lots of RMS girls including my own daughter (an ex-RMS pupil) take part and experience what it's like to be part of a musical production. This year we will be fusing together two story lines, 'School of Rock and Fame' the show will be tailor written and offer great parts for all. If you are looking for more than just a musical theatre skills workshop and would like to find out what a Blag Project entails please email me at lynn@dramaclasses.biz and I will be pleased to answer any questions you may have. We take children from 7 years to 17 years and we start on July 23rd. We have been producing children's summer schools for 20 years and were one of the first in Rickmansworth. Being part of our summer school teaches a lot more than just performing arts, it teaches confidence, team spirit, quick thinking, social skills and enhances short term memory. We would love to hear from you so please feel free to get in touch. 01923 772320 or 07730 572714 Testimonial from RMS parents.... “I highly recommend Blag summer project. It’s been the highlight of all my girls’ summer hols for the last 10 years. Recommend it if they are interested in dance singing or drama or would just like to make a really nice bunch of friends and have a great laugh in the hols”. Abbey “Blag is a unique experience; it’s huge fun and a really encouraging environment where the kids learn what they’re capable of and how to push themselves to achieve more. Although they never feel pressured or regimented, the kids respect Ricky and Lynn’s skills and deep experience and respond by pulling together to put on an amazing show or performance. Blag’s far more than a Saturday class - it soon becomes a key part of their life, along with the lifelong friends from all different backgrounds and talents that they make there” Diane
