The Faculty of Performing Arts Programme of Events 2017-2018
Tickets Many of our events are free and do not require a ticket. For our music concerts, community events and masterclasses, please feel free to just turn up.
Once again, I am delighted to present to you our packed programme of events for the coming academic year. The Faculty has many exciting changes ahead, not least our move into the new Faculty building, where classes will start in September 2018. This state of the art centre of excellence for Performing Arts has been made possible by some very generous donations from parents and supporters of RMS. If you would like to support the project, you can dedicate a leaf on our ‘giving tree’ - a beautiful sculpture which currently adorns the New Mark Hall and will form the centrepiece of our Faculty reception. For more information, please contact me.
Look out for this symbol for these events:

I am particularly proud to present our school musical, ‘9 to 5’ which will be at Watersmeet in November. It’s a hilarious show with exceptionally catchy music by Dolly Parton - and makes the important point that there’s nothing strong, intelligent women can’t achieve.
‘9 to 5’ tickets are also available at www.watersmeet.co.uk or in person at the Watersmeet box office. Please note that doors open no earlier than fifteen minutes before the advertised start time.
Beyond that, there truly is something for everyone Shakespeare, jazz, dance and our popular series of musical masterclasses. I look forward to seeing you at events during the coming term.
If you have any queries about an event please contact the Director of the Faculty, Daniel Hyde dhyde@royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk

Ellipses Theatre Present
Following a highly successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Ellipses Theatre (a company created by RMS Performing Arts students) presents ‘The Tempest’. A sibling betrayal. A terrible storm. A magical island, a sprite and a monster. Ellipses Theatre fuse drama, sound and movement to create a snappy, atmospheric, gender-fluid Tempest for our time. Innovative and creative, this is a 45 minute whirlwind through one of Shakespeare’s most interesting plays. O brave new world, that has such people in it!”

Extra-curricular Activities in the Faculty of Performing Arts
The Faculty runs a variety of activities to cover all interests. For musicians, we have a number of auditioned and non-auditioned Choirs (RMS Chorus, RMS Voices, Chapel Choir & Choro), Orchestras (RMSO & Sinfonia) and other ensembles (Rock Bands, Flute Groups, Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band & Percussion Group). For Dancers there is our own dance company, Fusion, which not only rehearses each week and performs in school productions, but goes on trips to see some fantastic examples of professional dance. Actors can join ‘Thesps’, which explores different texts, activities and drama styles and also works towards productions. There is also a Junior Drama Club run by our Sixth Form students. Performers can also take part in Community Arts which travels outside of school to local residential homes and the prestigious yearly appearance at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea for the Chelsea Pensioners. For students, staff and parents there is the RMS Community Choir. For more details, email dhyde@royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk. Details of all our activities can be found on the school’s online Extra-curricular organiser, CHQ.
