RMS Sixth Form Bulletin Edition 23: 11th November 2016 Message from Mrs Freeman‌ I had a wonderful evening on Tuesday watching 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. As a child I was taken to Stratford regularly to watch Shakespeare (so I'm not sure why English always confused me) and I very much felt that the talent I watched on Tuesday night was equally as impressive. I appreciate that the wonderful acting was also supported greatly by a number of our talented students behind the scenes and want to congratulate everyone on such a success. Hopefully the Common Room will no longer be a sleeping room for tired PARTS students after the weekend! This weekend we welcome back the class of 2016 for their certificate evening. These girls have now settled into university or GAP year life and it is always lovely to hear their news and try and work out who is who amongst the new hair styles and make up....Year 13 this is only a year away for you! UCAS Those who are still to send their UCAS time is now of the essence; I would like everything to have gone by Christmas at the latest so we can close that door and focus on getting the grades needed. Once all of your offers are in it is important to think carefully about which you feel should be your first and insurance choice. You do not have to make this decision until May but please do have a conversation with your tutor before you press any buttons. The offers are looking very good indeed at this stage, so well done to everyone so far! Absence notes As a school, we are required to keep accurate information about attendance. Unless we have received written or email information from parents/guardians authorising an absence, it will be recorded as 'unauthorised' and will be on your daughter/ward's record as such. Can I please implore all parents and guardians to respond to form tutors who are chasing for absence notes and in future please authorise the absence on the day to save your daughter's form tutor time each day chasing for notes. Help needed Looking forward to the Christmas fair, which is always great fun, Serena (Head Girl) is still looking for volunteers to help on the two stalls the girls have been asked to run (see next page). If you are available, please let Serena or Mrs Freeman know. Many thanks.

Volunteers Needed Sixth formers, please can I remind you all about the Christmas fair. Thank you to all those who have already volunteered, however Cerys and I have received only six volunteers from Year 12 and two from Year 13, which is very disappointing as FORMS are desperate for helpers and they hugely appreciate our help! Please volunteer to help at the Christmas fair on 3rd December. Email Serena or Cerys directly with times that you would be available - the more people there, the less everyone has to do! Thank you, your help is appreciated and noted!! www.royalmasonic.herts.sch.uk

Courses and Careers
The Digital Explorer Hub is an exciting Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) initiative that has been developed by MyKindaFuture. Using an engaging online platform, it hopes to encourage students to explore potential tech career options, develop key transferable skills and find out more about TCS. By actively participating in the challenges on the Hub, you will be able to collect points and of course points mean really exciting prizes! Please explore the Digital Explorers Hub and encourage your friends to do the same using this link: http://www.mykindafuture.com/Hub/HomePage/tata-consultancy-services You just need to scroll down and click on the power button to get started! Please also forward on this email to anyone you think the Hub will be of interest to! The aim is to engage as many students as possible throughout the UK!
Considering Dentistry at University? UniDentists's dental school preparation courses are running on Sunday 13th November and Sunday 11th December at King's College London. They aim to equip students with all they need to know to succeed in their application into Dentistry - an increasingly competitive career. Covering all aspects of the application process, this is, however, a big emphasis placed on the dental school interviews. The courses are delivered by experienced dentists, doctors and dental students who have either experienced the application process first hand successfully or have been involved in the selection process. The organisers have been working tirelessly over the last few months to make this course as beneficial as possible. The courses are tailored for students in Year 10, 11, 12 and 13. Below are the details: •
A full day course with interactive lectures and exercises covering all aspects of the application process.
•
Small group teaching during the day on MMIs, ethics, the NHS and typical dental school questions.
•
A course guide to complement the course
•
Individual mock interviews and feedback
Places are limited and can be booked on the website: www.unidentists.com Bursary Scheme - although our courses are subsidized and are the most affordable on the market we also offer bursary schemes designed to widen access to our courses to pupils who may not be able to attend our courses otherwise.
