AVANTI TRAIN MANAGERS
WHY WE ARE STRIKING RMT Train Manager members at Avanti West Coast are taking strike action in a dispute with the company over the imposition of rosters which has led to a significant deterioration in their work-life balance. Staff are routinely given just a few days’ notice of upcoming shifts and the company is imposing rosters and shifts and disregarding established negotiation processes. This has all had a significantly detrimental impact on staff work-life balance, morale, safety and wellbeing. The company’s failure to tackle these issues has led to Train Managers voting in favour of industrial action. RMT Avanti Train Managers are demanding a fair resolution to this dispute which addresses concerns over work-life balance and halts the imposition of rosters.

AVANTI – REWARDED
FOR FAILURE
This dispute has occurred at a time when the widely reported mismanagement of the franchise has led to extensive cancellations, delays and disruption for passengers. Passengers and staff are being impacted by the company’s chaotic mismanagement, yet the Government seems intent on rewarding Avanti’s failure. It was recently announced that rather than taking Avanti back into public ownership, it was being given it a six months’ contract extension where it stands to make fees in the region of £6 million.
