RMT - A New Years resolution 2022

Page 1

January 2022 Dear Colleague A New Year’s resolution to fight to defend jobs, pay and pensions As we start the New Year it’s worth reminding ourselves what the government has said about the role of rail workers during the pandemic: “ [rail workers] are the people who have been getting the NHS workers, and the care workers and essential workers and our food and all the rest of it to the right places at the right times throughout this crisis, without which we literally... wouldn’t have food on our tables and certainly wouldn’t have the emergency services there. I think they have done a phenomenal job.” -

Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Transport

The government is right, rail workers have done a “phenomenal job.” But as we said before Christmas the pay freeze is costing you thousands of pounds while the rail bosses make hundreds of millions in profits. We know that’s not right. We know that’s not fair. But we can only change things for the better if everyone is in the Union and we come together to fight for justice. So, let’s make a New Year’s resolution to defend jobs, pay and pensions by asking people to join the union here. And let’s spread the word on social media and in the workplace by using the campaign materials here. You can also order materials at info@rmt.org.uk. Let’s make 2022 the year we win the campaign to defend jobs, pay and pensions. Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch General Secretary
