Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team wraps up a two-game homestand Saturday night when it welcomes Quinnipiac to the Charles L. Sewall Center for a 7:00 p.m. tip. The Colonials opened the two-game homestand with a 66-62 victory over Sacred Heart (1/17/13), which stretched RMU’s winning streak to three. Playing without its top two leading scorers in redshirt senior guard Velton Jones and junior guard Karvel Anderson, four Colonials reached double figures in scoring for Robert Morris in the win over the Pioneers. Junior forward Mike McFadden and sophomore forward Lucky Jones tied for team-high honors with 15 points each, while redshirt senior forward Russell Johnson and redshirt junior guard Coron Williams each contributed 10 points. McFadden also tied for team-high honors in rebounds with six, while Lucky Jones scored 15 points on the strength of a 9-for-9 showing at the free-throw line. Quick Stat of the Night - Due to the injuries to redshirt senior guard Velton Jones and junior guard Karvel Anderson in a 66-62 victory over Sacred Heart (1/17/13), head coach Andrew Toole employed a short bench, using a seven-man rotation. Due to that, four Colonials established season highs in minutes played. Leading the way was sophomore forward Lucky Jones, who played 33 minutes. Also establishing season highs in minutes played were junior guards Coron Williams (32) and Anthony Myers-Pate (31) and freshman forward Stephan Hawkins (23). For Hawkins, his 23 minutes played marked a career high. RMU’s 66-62 win over the Pioneers marked just the second time Toole in his three years as head coach he has used a seven-man rotation and the first since a 65-63 setback @ St. Francis (N.Y.) (12/4/10).
