Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team concludes its annual swing through the state of New Jersey Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. tip against Monmouth at The MAC in West Long Branch, N.J. The Colonials opened their two-game road swing with a 67-55 victory @ Fairleigh Dickinson (1/19/12), using a 20-5 run over the final 7:46 of regulation to pull out the win. Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones led all scorers in the game with 22 points and also added six assists and three steals, while freshman forward Lucky Jones tied a career-high with 16 points, grabbed nine boards and posted four steals. Off the bench, junior forward Lijah Thompson contributed 14 points and five rebounds as RMU held a 32-28 edge on the glass. Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game having held 13 of its last 14 opponents under the 70-point plateau, a stretch in which the Colonials own a record of 10-4 (.714). RMU returns home to the Charles L. Sewall Center for a pair of games after taking on Monmouth, beginning Thursday, Jan. 26, against Long Island.

Quick Stat of the Night - Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones returned to the starting lineup in a 67-55 victory @ Fairleigh Dickinson (1/19/12) and paced the Colonials with 22 points, the second time in the last three games, third time overall this season and eighth time in his career he’s eclipsed the 20-point plateau. Robert Morris owns a record of 5-3 (.625) all-time when Jones scores at least 20 points in a game, and his performance against the Knights sets him up in prime position to join the Robert Morris 1,000-point club Saturday @ Monmouth.
