Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team opens a three-game road trip Thursday when it travels to Brooklyn, N.Y., for a 7:00 p.m. tip against LIU Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Colonials are coming off a 74-73 setback to Central Connecticut State (2/1/14) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, which snapped a season-high seven-game winning streak. RMU held a 67-54 lead with 4:01 to play, but the Blue Devils closed the game on a 20-6 run to earn the win. Junior forward Lucky Jones led Robert Morris with his fourth double-double of the season thanks to 22 points and 10 rebounds and in the process joined the RMU 1,000-point L, 76-84 club. His layup with 12:07 to go in the first half helped him become the 22nd member of the fraL, 77-80 W, 67-63 ternity, and he is just the 13th player in program history to eclipse career totals of both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Senior guard Karvel Anderson added 18 points against CCSU, while W, 72-61 sophomore forward Aaron Tate tied a career-high with eight points. Quick Stat of the Night - Sophomore forward Stephan Hawkins has settled in as a member of RMU’s starting lineup and is coming off a four-game homestand in which he’s put forth arguably his best stretch of basketball in a Robert Morris uniform. Hawkins enters Thursday’s game @ LIU Brooklyn having averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in his last four games while shooting 54.5 percent (12-for-22) from the field and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) at the free-throw line. Included in that stretch, Hawkins tied a career high in points (12) in a 91-65 win over Sacred Heart (1/23/14), while seven of his 14 rebounds during the last four games have come on the offensive end. The Blackbirds had one last chance to win the game, but Troy Joseph turned the ball over on LIU’s next possession, and guard Karvel Anderson helped seal the win by connecting for a pair at the free-throw line. Anderson paced the Colonials in the victory with 13 points off the bench, while forward Lucky Jones added 11 points and nine rebounds.
