Radio: WPIT-AM (730) with Chris Shovlin (play-by-play) & Jim Elias (color) Audio / Video / Live Stats available at www.rmucolonials.com Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team continues a three-game homestand Thursday in search of its fourth straight victory by welcoming Bryant to the Charles L. Sewall Center for a 7:00 p.m. tip. The Colonials opened their homestand with a 70-56 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) (2/11/12) that wrapped up their third straight “Rivalry Week” sweep of the Red Flash. Redshirt sophomore guard Coron Williams led four Colonials in double figures scoring in the victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) with 18 points, while redshirt junior guard Velton Jones added 13 points, seven assists and a career-high five steals. Sophomore forward Mike McFadden contributed 11 points and eight rebounds against the Red Flash, and redshirt junior forward Russell Johnson finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Upon hosting Bryant Thursday, Robert Morris concludes its homestand Saturday, Feb. 18, against Central Connecticut State. Quick Stat of the Night - Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones has been the heart and soul of the Colonials throughout the last three seasons, and he’s trying to put himself in rare company in 2011-12. Ranked in the top 10 in the Northeast Conference in scoring, assists and steals, Jones is looking to become just the fourth player in school history to lead RMU in each of those categories. Jones enters Thursday’s game against Bryant leading the NEC in steals (1.96 spg) while ranking fourth in assists (4.26 apg) and ninth in scoring (16.3 ppg). Jones is looking to join former Colonials Hosea Champine (1978-79), Gene Nabors (1995-2000) and Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) as the only players to lead Robert Morris in scoring, assists and steals. Champine accomplished the feat in 1978-79, Nabors turned the trick in both 1998-99 and 1999-2000 and Chappell led RMU in the trio of categories in 2008-09. All-time, Jones currently ranks ninth at Robert Morris in both assists (341) and steals (154) and 15th in scoring with 1,108 points.
