Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team continues play in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Monday by traveling to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., for a 7:00 p.m. tip against Providence in a second round game that will be televised live on ESPN. The Colonials picked up their first postseason NIT victory in school history thanks to a 59-57 win over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. Sophomore forward Lucky Jones paced RMU against the Wildcats with 15 points, while redshirt senior forward Russell Johnson added 14 points and team-high totals in rebounds (5) and steals (3). Tied, 57-57, with 8.7 seconds to play, junior forward Mike McFadden hit a pair of free throws to help lift Robert Morris to the win over Kentucky, as a three-pointer by Kyle Wiltjer as time expired was off the mark.

Quick Stat of the Night - Redshirt seniors Velton Jones and Russell Johnson have been at the forefront of the Golden Era of Robert Morris basketball, and in addition to being part of the program’s milestone victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in the first round of the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), the duo also tied a school record in the process. RMU’s 59-57 victory over the Wildcats pushed the program’s win total over the last four years to 91, with Jones and Johnson tying a school record for most victories by a class. The tandem join former guard Gary Wallace, who also won 91 games in a Robert Morris uniform from 2007 to 2011. Jones and Johnson enter the second round of the 2013 NIT Monday @ Providence having combined for career totals of 2,775 points, 1,066 rebounds and 739 assists. Jones needs eight dimes to become the program’s all-time leader in assists, while Johnson is just nine caroms shy of becoming the program’s alltime leading rebounder.
