Radio: WPIT-AM 730 (Chris Shovlin - play-by-play & Brian Cleary - color) Audio on the internet (live and archived) at: www.rmucolonials.com Top Story - The Robert Morris University football team returns home to Joe Walton Stadium for the first time in over a month Saturday to host in-state rival Saint Francis as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities in the first home night game in school history. The Colonials are coming off a 23-20 victory @ Monmouth (10/1) in their 2011 Northeast Conference opener, which helped RMU improve to 14-5-1 (.725) all-time when playing after a bye week and 10-6 (.625) in NEC openers. Junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair finished 18-for-24 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns against the Hawks, including a 21-yard touchdown strike to senior tight end Shadrae King with 5:15 to play that proved to be the game-winning score. King tied a career high with nine receptions against Monmouth, compiling 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns. For those efforts he was tabbed the NEC Offensive Player of the Week (10/3) and the National Tight of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (10/3). RMU returns to the road after hosting the Red Flash, traveling to Albany, N.Y., for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against Albany at University Field. Quick Stat of the Afternoon - RMU earned its first victory of the 2011 season with a 23-20 win @ Monmouth (10/1) in come-from-behind fashion. Trailing, 20-17, in the fourth quarter, junior quarterback engineered a nine-play, 79-yard drive, the longest touchdown drive of the season for Robert Morris, and capped it with a 21-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Shadrae King. Sinclair finished 4-for-5 passing for 68 yards during the decisive drive, marking the third time in his career Sinclair has led the Colonials on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. That total is tied for third in school history for fourth-quarter comebacks with former Colonial Drew Geyer (2002-05) and trailing only former Colonials Erik Cwalinski (2005-08) and Tim Levcik (1998-2001). Cwalinski engineered five game-winning drives in the fourth quarter during his career, while Levcik posted four. Saturday’s Opponent - Saint Francis is one of just three opponents Robert Morris has faced in each of the first 17 years the Colonials have fielded an intercollegiate program, joining fellow NEC foes Central Connecticut State and Wagner. All-time the Colonials are 14-2-1 (.853) against the Red Flash and enter Saturday’s game on a five-game winning streak against Saint Francis. In last season’s matchup the Colonials scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game en route to a 35-14 victory. 2011 Robert Morris Football Game Notes @ Morgan State (9/17/11) - Page 3
Head Coach Joe Walton 18th Season - Pittsburgh ’57 At the forefront of the football renaissance at Robert Morris University throughout its 18-year history is Joe Walton, who has built the Colonials from a fledgling program into one of the top Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams in the region. The one constant associated with the program, Walton was named the first head coach July 27, 1993. He started the program from scratch, completing everything from hiring assistant coaches to purchasing equipment to recruiting student-athletes for the team’s inaugural season in 1994. Walton’s fingerprints are all over the football program, and to prove that, RMU has played its home games since 2005 in a stadium that bears his name. During his tenure, Walton has led Robert Morris to the first Northeast Conference championship in 1996, guided RMU to a perfect 10-0 season in 2000 and in 2010 helped lead the Colonials to the NEC’s inaugural bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs with their league-high sixth regular-season championship. “It’s hard to believe,” Walton speaks on how fast time has elapsed. “I’ve said this many times before, and I mean it when I say that this situation is one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life. It happened at the right time. Before this position became available, I felt I was too young to quit coaching, but I wasn’t anxious to get back into pro football. When this came along, it was the perfect fit. This situation was the perfect opportunity for me to continue to do what I like to do, and I’ve loved every minute of it.” Under Walton’s tutelage, the Colonials have claimed outright NEC regular-season titles three times (1997, 1999, 2000) while sharing three others (1996, 1998, 2010). Walton led Robert Morris to back-to-back ECAC Bowl victories in 1996 and 1997, and in 1999 and 2000 he guided RMU to a pair of NCAA I-AA mid-major national crowns according to Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette. In 2010, Walton added to his legacy by engineering the Colonials on an eightgame winning streak for a share of the NEC regular-season title and the NEC’s first bid in the NCAA FCS Playoffs. In the process he picked up his 100th career victory in the collegiate ranks.

Game #5 • Robert Morris 35, Saint Francis 14 Saturday, October 2, 2010 • Loretto, Pa. DeGol Field (Attendance: 2,338) - Robert Morris scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to break open a close game and in the process stretched its winning streak to four with a 35-14 victory over in-state rival Saint Francis. RMU notched the program’s 100th victory in 17 seasons as a Division I program thanks to the win over the Red Flash. Robert Morris got off to a fast start, taking the opening kickoff and marching 64 yards on nine plays to take an early 7-0 lead when running back Josh Keil scored from a yard out. The big play came on 3rd-and-6 from the RMU 40-yard line, when quarterback Jeff Sinclair completed a 35-yard pass to wide receiver Anthony Coleman. The advantage for the Colonials jumped to 14-0 at the 4:58 mark of the first quarter when Sinclair hit wide receiver T.J. Green with a nine-yard touchdown pass. Saint Francis cracked the scoreboard in the second quarter to cut its deficit in half, 14-7, when John Kelly connected with Omar Winston for an eight-yard touchdown pass with 4:41 left before halftime. The Red Flash looked poised to tie the game heading into the break, driving to the RMU threeyard line with under a minute to play. However, on 3rd-and-goal Kelly was intercepted by linebacker Alex DiMichele, who returned the pick 25 yards before being tackled. Defense took center stage in the third quarter before Robert Morris continued its trend of scoring points in bunches in the final 15 minutes of play. RMU opened the fourth quarter by driving to the 25-yard line of Saint Francis before stalling and was faced with a 4th-and-1 situation. The Colonials called a timeout, and out of the break Sinclair faked a handoff to senior running back Raphael Johnson and found tight end Paul Evans streaking down the middle of the field for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead for the Colonials. The Red Flash went three-and-out on their next possession, and Robert Morris used just three plays to expand its advantage to 28-7 when Sinclair hit Coleman with a 14-yard touchdown pass. Halfback Myles Russ, who finished with 139 yards rushing on 18 carries, scampered 39 yards down to the 14-yard line of the Red Flash to set up Sinclair's touchdown pass. Johnson became the fifth different Colonial to score a touchdown on the day when he scored from one yard out with 4:44 to play to give RMU a commanding 35-7 edge, and Saint Francis capped the scoring with 1:34 remaining when Kelly connected with Jeff Wasilewski for a 50-yard touchdown pass. As a freshman, Sinclair finished 13-for-17 passing in a 23-9 win over Monmouth Nov. 21, 2009, with his completion percentage of 76.5 percent in that contest ranking as the third highest in the Colonial single-game record book. Two Pair - Quarterback Jeff Sinclair tossed a pair of touchdown passes to senior tight end Shadrae King in a 23-20 victory @ Monmouth (10/1), the first time this season Sinclair has thrown multiple touchdown passes in a game. Thanks to the two scores through the air from Sinclair, Robert Morris improved to 9-2 (.818) when he tosses two or more touchdown passes in a game. A New No. 1 - Senior tight end Shadrae King tied a career high with nine receptions in a 23-20 victory @ Monmouth (10/1), compiling 104 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns. In addition to recording his third career 100-yard receiving game, King became the program’s all-time leading receiver. He enters Saturday’s game against Saint Francis with 115 career catches, which eclipsed the record of 112 that was held by former wide receiver Tyjuan Massey (2002-05). King also owns career totals of 18 touchdown catches and 1,373 career receiving yards, which rank third and fifth, respectively, all-time at Robert Morris. King enters Saturday’s game against Saint Francis ranked third in the Northeast Conference in receptions per game (5.25) and eighth in receiving yards (49.8) per contest. Stuffing The Run - Just four games into the 2011 season, and the Robert Morris defense is again proving to be stingy in regard to the opposing running game. Opponents have averaged just 90.5 yards rushing against the Colonials so far this year, which leads the Northeast Conference while ranking 13th in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The school record for rushing defense is held by the 2006 Colonials, which allowed an average of 99.8 yards per game. Overall, RMU enters Saturday’s game against Saint Francis ranked second in the NEC and ninth in the country in total defense, yielding an average of just 285.3 yards per contest. Action Jackson - Junior wide receiver Rickeem Jackson has established himself as a goto receiver for Robert Morris in the last two games. In RMU’s final final non-conference game of the 2011 campaign @ Morgan State (9/17), Jackson caught his first collegiate touchdown with a seven-yard reception in the fourth quarter. In a 23-20 win @ Monmouth (10/1), Jackson was key in RMU’s eventual game-winning drive, hauling in a 26-yard catch that moved the ball to the 25-yard line of the Hawks. Over the last two games, Jackson owns seven receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown, an average of 14.7 yards per catch. Overall on the 2011 campaign, Jackson’s average of 14.1 yards per catch ranks seventh in the Northeast Conference.

2011 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Saint Francis (10/8/11) - Page 7 Near and Far - Junior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof, a member of the 2011 All-NEC Preseason Team, put together arguably his best game in a Robert Morris uniform @ Morgan State (9/17). Nearhoof compiled a career-high 11 tackles to tie for game-high honors, including four tackles for losses that totaled 20 yards. Included among those tackle totals were two and-a-half sacks, his first of the 2011 campaign. Nearhoof enters Saturday’s game against Saint Francis tied for third in the NEC in sacks (2.5) and fourth in the circuit in tackles for loss (6.5). He also enters the contest just a half a sack away from cracking the top 10 all-time at Robert Morris in the category, as he has compiled 11 so far in 24 career games. Snapping a Streak - Junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair, who tied an RMU single-season school record with 22 touchdown passes last season, completed his first touchdown pass of the 2011 campaign with a nine-yard strike to sophomore tight end Vince Mongelluzzo in the fourth quarter @ Liberty (9/10). For Sinclair, it snapped a streak of 80 passing attempts without a touchdown dating back to the 2010 campaign, the longest drought of his career. An Important Position - While junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair snapped one streak @ Liberty (9/10), the recipient on the other end of his touchdown pass was sophomore tight end Vince Mongelluzzo, who recorded his first career reception. One of the most important positions in head coach Joe Walton’s offense, Mongelluzzo is the 18th different tight end in the 18-year history of the program to post a touchdown catch. In fact, Mongelluzzo is currently one of four tight ends in school history whose only catch is a touchdown, joining junior Tyler Digby and former Colonials Jeremy Wise (2002-05) and Sean McElhinny (2007-10). Home Sweet Home - Slowly but surely, Robert Morris has learned to protect its home turf at Joe Walton Stadium. Thanks to a 42-24 win over Central Connecticut State (11/6/10) that clinched a share of the 2010 Northeast Conference championship, RMU stretched its winning streak at “The Joe” to eight games, the longest winning streak at the facility since opening the stadium in 2005. Despite a 19-13 setback to Dayton (9/3) in the 2011 season opener that snapped the eight-game surge, overall Robert Morris owns a record of 17-15 (.531) in seven seasons at Joe Walton Stadium. Foot Joy - One of the most important aspects that junior Jeff Sinclair brings to the quarterback position at Robert Morris is his versatility. In RMU’s season opener against Dayton (9/3) at Joe Walton Stadium, Sinclair scored the first touchdown of the year for the Colonials with a five-yard run with 10:43 to play in the second quarter that gave RMU a 7-6 advantage. In 22 career games, Sinclair has already rushed for nine touchdowns. To put that in perspective, prior to Sinclair becoming the starter under center at RMU, quarterbacks combined for 16 rushing touchdowns in the first 156 games of the program’s history. Saturday Night Lights - Robert Morris traveled to Lynchburg, Va., and dropped a 38-7 decision @ Liberty (9/10) in the second week of the season in a game that kicked off at 7:00 p.m. It marks just the sixth time in the 18-year history of the program the Colonials played a game with a kickoff after 5:00 p.m. RMU owns a record of 1-5 (.167) all-time in night games, with all six of the previous contests coming on the road. The tilt against Liberty is one of two games on the 2011 Robert Morris schedule that is a night game, as the Colonials will host their first night game in school history when they take on Saint Francis at Joe Walton Stadium in a 7:00 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Oct. 8, as part of the University’s Homecoming festivities. Making The Grade - Defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof became the third player in program history to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team in 2010 when he earned second team accolades. Nearhoof owns a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.87 as a biology major and joined former Colonials Jonathan LeDonne (2001-04) and Ray Gensler (2003-06) to earn the honor. LeDonne, a linebacker, was named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team, while Gensler, a defensive lineman, was a twotime honoree, earning second team accolades in 2005 and first team honors in 2006. In the first four games of the 2011 campaign, Nearhoof owns 20 tackles, including two and-a-half sacks, and a fumble recovery. He enters Saturday’s game against Saint Francis as RMU’s active leader in career tackles with 97. Preseason Honors - A total of five Colonials earned spots on the 2011 All-Northeast Conference Preseason Team. Junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair, senior center Logan Miles and senior tight end Shadrae King were placed on offense, junior defensive lineman Nolan Nearhoof earned a spot on defense and senior Anthony Coleman was picked as the return specialist on special teams. In addition, King was named to the 2011 Preseason Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America Second Team by both The Sports Network and Phil Steele and the 2011 Preseason FCS Honorable Mention Team by Consensus Draft Services. Mitchell On The Move - Did any student-athlete have a better year in 2010-11 than Steve Mitchell? In the fall of 2010, Mitchell started all 11 games on the defensive line, recording 37 tackles in helping Robert Morris claim its sixth NEC regular-season championship and the league’s inaugural bid to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs. In the spring of 2011 he ignited the RMU outdoor track & field squad to a second-place finish at the 2011 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 133 points, the squad’s highest finish since winning the 2000 NEC Outdoor Track & Field title with 146.5 points. Mitchell was named the 2011 Most Outstanding Field Performer after claiming gold in the hammer throw and silver in the shot put. He posted a toss of 50.83 meters in the hammer and a throw of 16.29 meters in the shot, establishing a new RMU outdoor school record. To top it off, Mitchell owns a 3.55 cumulative grade point average as a management major. The Streak Continued - The football program helped Robert Morris extend one of its most impressive streaks in school history in the fall of 2010. The Colonials returned to the top of the Northeast Conference after a 10-year hiatus with a record of 7-1 (.875) in league play and shared the 2010 regular-season championship with Central Connecticut State. However, by virtue of a 42-24 victory over the Blue Devils at Joe Walton Stadium (11/6/10), RMU clinched the NEC’s inaugural bid to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs. It marked the 12th straight season that Robert Morris has sent at least one of its programs to an NCAA Tournament, dating back to the 1999-2000 campaign. 2011 Robert Morris Football Game Notes vs. Saint Francis (10/8/11) - Page 9 Those Issues Are Secondary - Through the first four games of the 2011 season, a total of five Colonials have earned a start in the secondary, a group that includes a senior (Alex Tarr), a junior (Ben Ridgeley), a pair of junior college transfers (Antwan Smith and Cameron Chadwick) and a sophomore (D.J. Myers). Myers led the Colonials in tackles against Dayton (9/3) in the 2011 season opener with a career-high nine takedowns, while Tarr paced RMU in stops with eight @ Liberty (9/10) and a career-high nine in a 23-20 win @ Monmouth (10/1). RMU enters Saturday’s game with 91 of its 259 tackles (35.1 percent) so far this season having come from its secondary. Rank and File - Robert Morris certainly posted a defining victory when it garnered a 30-23 upset win over No. 14/15 Liberty (9/18) at Joe Walton Stadium, but should it really come as a surprise? The victory improved the Colonials to a perfect 2-0 when squaring off with a ranked opponent at home. RMU defeated fellow Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State, 23-17, in a pair of overtimes at Joe Walton Stadium Oct. 14, 2006, for its first win over a ranked opponent. The Blue Devils entered that game ranked No. 19 by The Sports Network, while the Flames occupied the No. 15 spot in TSN’s poll before falling to the Colonials. RMU’s loss @ Liberty (9/10) dropped the Colonials to 2-2 (.500) all-time when facing off with a ranked opponent, as the Flames entered the game ranked 24th by The Sports Network. To see the latest FCS national rankings by The Sports Network, please see page 7 of today’s game notes. Get To The Chopper - A quick glance at RMU’s record when broken down proves how important it is the Colonials get off to a good start in contests. When Robert Morris is leading at halftime, the program owns an all-time record of 84-10 (.894). When trailing at the break, Robert Morris owns a mark of 10-55-1 (.159). Even going into halftime tied is beneficial, as the Colonials own an overall record of 11-8 (.579) in such games. The Magic Mark - Since the Colonials began play in 1994 there have been 69 games in which Robert Morris has scored 30 or more points. In those contests RMU boasts a record of 65-4 (.942), including a record of 38-4 (.905) in games in which the team scores between 30 and 39 points. In games in which the Colonials score 40 or more points, RMU is a perfect 27-0. RMU Football Historical Tidbits - The inaugural running back at Robert Morris, the late Tim Hall (1994-95), rushed for 2,908 yards in his two seasons as a Colonial. A Colonial in the NFL Hank Fraley, who played on the offensive line for Robert Morris from 19961999, has carved a niche for himself in the National Football League (NFL). Signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a free agent contract in April 2000, Fraley was claimed off waivers the following August by the Philadelphia Eagles. After an ankle injury to Bubba Miller in the final 2001 preseason game, Fraley stepped up and started at center for Philadelphia the entire season, helping the team to the 2002 NFC Championship game. For four straight seasons with Fraley starting at center from 2002-05, the Eagles appeared in the NFC Championship game. In 2005, Fraley became the first RMU football alum to appear in the Super Bowl when he started at center against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Prior to the start of the 2006 campaign, Fraley was traded by Philadelphia to Cleveland, where he started all 16 games for the Browns on the year. Fraley played four seasons with the Browns from 2006 to 2009, earning 52 starts in 63 games, before signing as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams March 14, 2010. Entering the 2011 season, which will be his 12th year in the NFL, Fraley has started 123 of his career 142 games and has also earned 10 starts in the postseason. Primarily a center, Fraley has also started at both guard and tackle throughout his NFL career. Fraley became the second Colonial to have his number retired, joining inaugural running back Tim Hall (1994-95), as Fraley’s No. 75 was enshrined prior to RMU’s game against Sacred Heart on Sept. 22, 2001. Fraley became the sixth football inductee into the Robert Morris Athletic Hall of Fame when he was enshrined Oct. 14, 2006.
