Against the Knights With a victory on Sept. 27 against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Colonials are now 24-7 and have won 20 of the last 21 meetings with the Knights. The lone loss in that timeframe came last season in RMU’s regular-season finale. Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson The Knights currently are in a tie for sixth in the NEC with a conference mark of 2-5. Freshman outside hitter Carly O’Sullivan leads FDU offensively with 191 kills, while fellow rookie Alex Lolland and sophomore Caroline Laton also have tallied triple-digit kills with 152 and 140, respectively. Junior setter Allison Butler paces the Knights with 617 assists. Defensively, middle hitters Hanifa Addi and Laton have combined for 142 total blocks (24 solo, 118 assist). MaTCH #2 - SUNDAY, October 26 - 1:00 PM Robert Morris at Sacred Heart (7-13, 2-5 NEC) William H. Pitt Center - Fairfield, Conn. Against the PIONEERS The Colonials completed a weekend sweep in September with a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart, improving their record to 19-6 against the Pioneers. RMU will look to buck the trend on Sunday as the two teams have split their series in the past five regular seasons. Scouting SACRED HEART The Pioneers are coming off a heartbreaking five-set loss to Central Connecticut State, dropping them to 2-5 in the NEC. In that match, SHU took the fourth set by a wild score of 46-44, which set a new NCAA Division I single-set scoring record. Sophomore right side Sarah Krufka and junior outside Tori Kemper are both over 200 kills with 245 and 218, respectively. Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist Ana Gonzalez paces the Pioneers with 290 digs, 135 more than second place. Gonzalez’s classmate Jene Lee is the team leader in blocks with 52 (2 solo, 50 assist).

Both matches played out similar as RMU won the first two sets, then dropped the following two to set a deciding fifth set that went the Colonials way. Robb was one of four Colonials against the Pioneers who had six or more kills, as she led the team with nine on a .280 hitting percentage. Arden Fisher collected an impressive 22 digs in the three-set victory, while Becky Jay paced RMU in blocks with six (1 solo, 5 assist). BLOCKIN’ BECKY Becky Jay is on the cusp of history, as she sits six block assists away from breaking the program career record of 358 set by Amanda Graham. Jay became the fifth player in program history to reach 400 total blocks in an Oct. 11 victory at NJIT, and passed Janette Schneider last weekend for fourth place in that category with 415. She also ranks 10th in solo blocks with 62 and is one shy of tying Cyndi Dunslow for ninth. Can’t Knock The Hustle The Colonials have hit their stride defensively since entering conference play, leading the NEC in blocks per set (2.79), total blocks (78.0), digs per set (18.46), and total digs (517). Individually, Becky Jay and Leah Dunivan are third in blocks per set (1.29) while Melissa Bograd is also third in digs per set (4.54). SENIOR LEADERSHIP Robert Morris head coach Dale Starr will be able to lean on a strong senior class in 2014, as his roster features seven fourth-year players. This senior class is the largest Starr has had during his tenure with the Colonials, surpassing the 2010 team which featured five seniors. APRIL KNOWS APRIL Sophomore middle blocker April Krivoniak enjoyed a fine rookie season with 229 kills, 54 total blocks, and a .229 hitting percentage, but she might have been just as impressive in her other sport. As a thrower on the Robert Morris track & field team, Krivoniak finished third at the NEC Outdoor Championships in the shot put with a throw of 12.69 meters (41’7.75”), which earned herself All-NEC Rookie Team accolades.
Recapping LAST WEEKEND ROBERT MORRIS 3, St. FRANCIS BROOKLYN 0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-18) The Colonials hit at a season-high .284 clip as a team as they had little problem dispatching St. Francis Brooklyn in three sets this past Saturday. Kristin Thompson led the way with 15 kills on a .583 hitting percentage, along with three blocks (2 solo, 1 assist). Becky Jay paced RMU in blocks with seven (1 solo, 6 assist), while Melissa Bograd was one of three Colonials with double-digit digs, collecting a team-high 18 in the victory. LIU BROOKLYN 3, ROBERT MORRIS 1 (21-25, 25-20, 12-25, 16-25) In a battle of NEC unbeatens, it was LIU Brooklyn who would come out on top, as they knocked off the Colonials in four sets. Kristin Thompson and Becky Jay each tallied eight kills and at least five block assists, while April Krivoniak added five total blocks (1 solo, 4 assist). Arden Fisher collected a teamhigh 22 digs in the defeat.

Starr brings a vast background in collegiate coaching to Robert Morris, having served as the head coach at McNeese State University from 2004 until he joined RMU in 2010. He was also the head coach at DivisionII Mississippi University for Women from 1999 to 2002. In 2013, Starr guided a senior-less RMU team to their 15th-consecutive NEC Tournament berth, finishing the conference slate of the schedule with a record of 8-6. The Colonials led the conference in digs and Starr had a student-athlete make an All-NEC team for the fourth straight season. On Oct. 19, Starr earned his 200th career win with a three-set sweep of St. Francis (Pa.). With a senior-heavy roster in 2012, Starr led the Colonials to their 14th-consecutive NEC Tournament behind the strength of 13 regular-season wins against NEC foes. Despite a slow start in early-season tournaments, Starr led RMU to a thrilling fiveset victory over West Virginia, the first victory over a Big-XII team in program history. Two members of Starr’s 2012 squad would earn All-NEC honors for the second-consecutive season while one studentathlete would lead the NEC in blocks per match. The highlight of the 2011 season under Starr had to be the three-set sweep of crosstown-rival Pittsburgh. The win was the first victory over the Panthers in program history. Behind a 10-6 record in the NEC, the Colonials would earn a postseason berth for the 13th-consecutive time while two of Starr’s studentathletes would earn All-NEC accolades. In his first season with Robert Morris, two of Starr’s student-athletes claimed first team all-conference honors in 2010 and a total of four claimed weekly honors from the NEC. Some of the highlights for Starr’s first season may have come off the court due to the Colonials’ gaudy academic performances. Starr then guided his squad to a victory over then six-time defending NEC champion LIU-Brooklyn in the conference tournament semifinals. After eliminating the Blackbirds in a thrilling, five-set match, RMU then competed in its 13th league championship match, extending its own conference record.
