Video: www.americaonesports.com | Radio: 970 AM ESPN | Live Stats: www.rmucolonials.com AGAINST THE NITTANY LIONS For the second consecutive weekend, Robert Morris will host a Big Ten opponent at the 84 Lumber Arena when Penn State comes to town for a Friday night contest. In a matchup of the two newest programs in the NCAA, this will be the first time that Penn State will play at the RMU Island Sports Center. The two teams met twice last year in Penn State’s first season as a Division I program with the Colonials earning victories in both games. The first matchup occured at Penn State where RMU would skate away with a 3-2 victory. The two teams would meet again at the inaugural Three Rivers Classic where the Colonials would down the Nittany Lions, 6-0.

SCOUTING PENN STATE In the program’s first season as a Division I squad since 1946-47, Penn State finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 13-14-0. Moving to the newly established Big Ten Conference this season, Penn State is off to an 1-3-1 start with its only victory coming against Army in the program’s first game at its new home, the Pegula Ice Arena. Three of the four teams that Penn State has played so far this season have been from the Atlantic Hockey Association - Air Force, Army, and RIT. David Goodwin and Eric Scheid each have a team-high three points for the Nittany Lions. Goodwin and Scheid are joined by Curtis Loik as each member of the trio has recorded two goals in the young season. Matthew Skoff and Eamon McAdam have split time between the pipes for Penn State. Skoff has started three games with a record of 1-1-1 to go with a goals-against average of 2.31 and a .919 save percentage. McAdam has gone 0-2-0 with a 5.10 goals-against average and a .836 save percentage.

Born in 1734 in Liverpool, England, Robert Morris sailed to the United States with his father when he was 14 years old. Morris became a partner at the import export firm of Willing & Morris where he made his millions. After, he became the spokesman for opposition to the Stamp Act, smuggled arms for the new American army and navy, signed the Declaration of Independence, secured financing — often using his personal credit — to fight the Revolutionary War and served as a Pennsylvania state senator.

He died in Philadelphia on May 8, 1806.

MUSKET SHOTS PRODUCTION FROM THE DEFENSE Only three of the Colonials’ 29 points have been produced by defensive pairings this season. Chase Golightly has recorded the only goal by a defenseman this season.

SURVIVING THE SECOND The second period has been a period of nightmares for Robert Morris this season. Through the first five games, RMU goaltenders have recorded a 6.00 goals-against average and an .844 save percentage. In the first and third periods, the Colonials netminders have a 2.40 goals-against average and a save perecntage of at least .925 in each of the two periods.

USING THE EXTRA MAN TO THEIR ADVANTAGE This season, the Colonials rank 15th in the NCAA in power-play conversion. Robert Morris has scored on 23.1 percent (six of 26) of its extra-man opportunities. The percentage also ranks them third in the AHA. RMU has recorded a power-play goal in four consecutive games after going 0-7 in the season opener against Lake Superior State.

A FRIGHTENING OCTOBER For the first time in the program’s ten-year history, Robert Morris has gone winless through the month of October. The Colonials’ record of 0-4-1 represents the longest winless streak to begin a season over the first ten seasons.

KEEPING IT CLOSE Robert Morris has yet to play in a game that ended with either team winning by more than two goals.

Despite looking for their first win of the season, the Colonials have played in three two-goal games and a single one-goal game.

FRIEDMANN POWERS THE POWER PLAY Forward David Friedmann has recorded all of his points this season while the Colonials have had the man advantage.

JACKIN PUTS THE BISCUT ON A PLATTER Scott Jacklin is one of just 14 Colonials in the ten-year history of the program to record three or more assists in a single game. Jacklin accomplished this feat for the second time in his career against Niagara on October 19 when he picked up three assists. In doing so, Jacklin became just the tenth Colonials to have multiple games with three or more assists. The first time that Jacklin accomplished this feat was last season against Bentley when he tied a program single-game record with four assists in a game.

RENWICK STANDS TALL ON “D” With three underclassmen goaltenders, the defense of Robert Morris will be counted on to stand tall and take pressure off of the trio. Senior defenseman Evan Renwick has done just that as he currently leads the team with 14 blocked shots. Renwick’s total is the eighth most in the NCAA and the third highest total in Atlantic Hockey.

FRIEDMANN’S PARADE TO THE BOX Just four games into his sophomore season, David Friedmann currently leads the AHA in penalty minutes and is tied for third in the number of penalties taken. Friedmann has committed six penalties that have amassed 34 penalty minutes. These infractions include two major/game misconduct fouls.

THE OPENING ACT Robert Morris’ goaltending in the first period has been strong to say the least. The tandem of Dalton Izyk and Terry Shafer have allowed just four goals in the opening frame while combining to make 54 saves for a goals-against average of 2.40 and a .931 save percentage.

55 WINS AND COUNTING This season’s senior class needs just 11 wins to set a new program record for victories by a class. The graduating class of 2012 holds the current record with 65 victories. This season’s group of seniors currently has 55 wins, a number which is the second-most by any graduating class.

MUSKET SHOTS TOP HEAVY All but three of Robert Morris’ goals have been produced by the top two lines put together by head coach Derek Schooley. The top line consisting of Cody Wydo, Scott Jacklin, and Ben Robillard have combined for five goals and five assists for ten points. The second line comprised of Colin South, David Friedmann, and Zac Lynch have amassed three goals and seven assists for ten points.

SHORT-HANDED MARKERS When the Colonials find the back of the net while shorthanded, it usually leads to a win. Robert Morris has won 22 of the 34 games in which they have scored a short-handed goal, but that wasn’t the case in the opening game of the 2013-14 season. Despite Cody Wydo netting a short-handed tally, RMU would fall to Lake Superior State, becoming the ninth time that the Colonials would lose when scoring while on the penalty kill.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY FIVE YEARS AGO NOVEMBER 1, 2008 Pittsburgh, Pa. - Under the direction of fifth year head coach Derek Schooley, the Robert Morris University men’s ice hockey team took the ice Saturday night at the Island Sports Center to square off in a CHA contest against Alabama-Huntsville. Although the Chargers jumped out to a quick two goal lead, the Colonials rallied to earn a 3-2 victory.

QUICK ON THE DRAW Robert Morris has three skaters that rank in the top-50 nationally in faceoff percentage. Sophomores David Friedmann, Brandon Denham, and Matt Cope comprise the trio. Denham leads the group winning 72.7 percent of the draws he takes, the highest percentage in Atlantic Hockey and seventh-best in the NCAA. PRESEASON AHA POLLS In the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Robert Morris was selected to finish seventh in the conference. The Colonials were behind each of their opponents from the western pod; Niagara, Mercyhurst, Air Force, Canisius, and RIT. RMU was also selected behind eastern pod favorite Connecticut, the team that knocked the Colonials out of the AHA Quarterfinals last season. In the inaugural AHA Meadi Poll, Robert Morris was selected to finish in a tie for seventh with Holy Cross.

WYDO WRITING THE RECORD BOOKS Despite being in his junior season this year, Cody Wydo has already entered the Colonial Record Book. Wydo is currently fifth in program history with 37 goals; he sits 27 goals away from the top spot held by Chris Margott with 64 goals. Wydo is also tied for first with Ryan Cruthers as each has four career short-handed goals.

RETURNING SCORERS The Colonials returned just four skaters that had previously recorded a multi-goal game. Cody Wydo has the most multi-goal games of the returners with seven. Colin South has recorded five multi-goal games while Andrew Blazek and Scott Jacklin each have one multi-goal game in their career.

X The 2013-14 season marks the 10th season for the Colonial hockey program. It is the team’s fourth season in the Atlantic Hockey Association. Robert Morris has an all-time record of 124-156-40 in its time as a Division I program. Head coach Derek Schooley has been behind the bench for every season at RMU. 100-GAME PLATEAU Just one Colonial enters the 2013-14 season with at least 100 games played. Senior captain Colin South has skated in 102 games during his first three seasons at Robert Morris. As many as five other Colonials could join South at the 100-game milestone by the season’s end.

WORKMAN, NICHOLSON ELEVATED TO ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH Prior to the 2013-14 season, head coach Derek Schooley elevated his two assistants, Matt Nicholson and Mark Workman, to the status of associate head coach. Workman served as a top assistant at Brown for six seasons before coming to Robert Morris while Nicholson joined the Colonials after time at Adrian College. Both coaches are entering their fifth seasons as members of the Colonial hockey family.

MUSKET SHOTS SCHOLAR ATHLETES Three Colonials from the 2012-13 team were named Student-Athletes of the Year by the AHA. Two of them, Brandon Denham and Zac Lynch, are still with the squad for this season. In order to receive the award, the student-athlete must maintain at least a 4.0 GPA during the season.

970 AM ESPN Robert Morris University and 970 AM ESPN (WBGG) Pittsburgh have reached a three-year agreement to broadcast RMU football, men’s basketball and men’s ice hockey games beginning this fall and running through the 2015-16 athletic season. Robert Morris football, men’s basketball and home men’s ice hockey games can be heard on 970 ESPN and on the station’s website, www.970espn.com, as well as on iHeartRadio, Clear Channel’s all-in-one free digital radio platform. Pittsburgh Clear Channel, which owns 970 AM ESPN, currently carries the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers (WDVE-FM 102.5) and the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins (WXDX-FM 105.9 FM).

THE NEWEST CAPTAIN Heading into the program’s tenth season, head coach Derek Schooley turned to senior forward Colin South as the team’s newest captain. South served as an assistant captain during his junior season.

COLONIALS IN THE PROS As training camps through all levels of hockey kicked off in late September, two members of the Colonial hockey family received invitations to the main NHL camps. Eric Levine got the call to join the Nashville Predators camp while Denny Urban headed to join the Florida Panthers. Urban became just the second Colonial in program history to see playing time while in camp when he dressed for the Panthers in an exhibition against Nashville.

SCORING DRIVE The Colonials return seven of their top-ten point producer from the 2012-13 season. The group is led by junior Cody Wydo, who recorded 33 points in 38 games last season. Wydo also led the team with 21 goals during the 2012-13 campaign.

TURNING YOUTH INTO EXPERIENCE The Colonials featured ten freshmen during the 2012-13 season. This year, RMU looks to transition that youth into experience that can guide the program after a 20-win season. With the departure of five seniors from last season, the Colonials boast a rather experience squad in front of three underclassmen netminders.

A BANNER SEASON The 2012-13 edition of Robert Morris men’s ice hockey will be remembered as one of the greatest in school history as the team set a new school record with 20 victories. The team finished with a 20-144 overall record while going 13-11-3 in Atlantic Hockey play. The Colonials would have two different seven-game unbeaten streaks while also claiming the inaugural Three Rivers Classic.

CLUTCH CODY When the Colonials needed a clutch goal, Robert Morris turned to junior forward Cody Wydo. Wydo supplied a quarter of the Colonials’ game-winning goals this season. Of his 21 goals, five were of the game-winning variety.

PROGRAM RECORD Last season, Robert Morris set a new program record for wins in a season with 20. The new mark included victories over NCAA Frozen Four finalist Quinnipiac, fifth-ranked Miami to capture the Three Rivers Classic, and an overtime victory over nationally-ranked Niagara.

THE ONLY MAN BEHIND THE BENCHES Robert Morris is led by Derek Schooley, who has been the only bench boss for the Colonials in the program’s 10-year history. Schooley has a career record of 124-156-40.

BREAKING DOWN THE 2013-14 COLONIALS OFFENSE (T-45TH - 2.20 GOALS PER GAME) - Junior Cody Wydo is in the Top-50 nationally with an average of 0.60 goals per game after netting three goals in Robert Morris’ first five games.

DEFENSE (46TH - 3.60 GOALS ALLOWED PER GAME) - Having seen action in each of the five games this season for the Colonials, sophomore goaltender Terry Shafer currently sports a 4.17 goals-against average.

- Starting four of the five games he has seen action in, Terry Shafer has recorded a save percentage of .888. His percentage is good enough to be ranked 66th in the NCAA. POWER PLAY (T-15TH - 23.1 PERCENT [6/26]) Three of the Colonials five goals this season have come on the power play.

Robert Morris is averaging one power-play goal per game after netting two goals with the man advantage against Niagara on October 19.

- Each of RMU’s six power-play goals have been scored by a different individual. David Friedmann, Chase Golightly, Scott Jacklin, Zac Lynch, Ben Robillard, and Cody Wydo have recorded a power-play goal this season.

PENALTY KILL (51ST - 73.1 PERCENT [19/26]) - Robert Morris has averaged the tenth-most penalty minutes of any Division-I program this season. The Colonials have served an average of 19.8 minutes in the box over their first five games of the season. Of the 99 minutes, 45 have come from three major/game misconduct fouls.

- Cody Wydo is one of just 35 players nationally to record a short-handed goal this season. Wydo’s short-handed marker came in the first contest of the season against Lake Superior State on October 11.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – October 26, 2013 - The Robert Morris University men’s ice hockey team concluded a homeand-home series with Ohio State on Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the 84 Lumber Arena. The sold-out crowd witnessed the Buckeyes jump out to a 4-0 lead after two periods before the Colonials collected three goals in the third period trying to mount a comeback.

Sophomore Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) provided Robert Morris (0-4-1, 0-0-1 AHA) with a goal and an assist in the loss to Ohio State (2-3-0, 0-0-0 Big Ten). The Colonials recorded a power-play goal for the fourth-consecutive game with Lynch’s marker midway through the third period.

After a scoreless first period, Ohio State would open the scoring with the first of four Buckeye goals in the period. Just 17 seconds into the second period, Nick Schilkey would put the Buckeyes on the board with a deflection from deep in the left wing circle past Terry Shafer (Penfield, N.Y. / New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs) who started his fourth game this season.

A minute later, Ohio State would take a 2-0 lead with a goal by Justin DaSilva. DaSilva fired a shot from the point that found its way through traffic in front of the crease and past Shafer.

Robert Morris would fall behind three goals after the Buckeyes capitalized on the power play thirteen minutes into the period. Drew Brevig would collect Ohio State’s third goal of the period after the Buckeyes moved the puck around and freed Brevig up for a shot from the top of the slot.

Ohio State would extend their lead to four with a second power-play goal in the final minute of the period. With 11 seconds remaining in the second frame, Tyler Lundey would deflect a shot from the point while positioned at the right post behind Shafer.

Two minutes into the third period, Brandon Denham (Milton, Ontario / Oakville Blades) would end Matt Tomkins’ shutout bid with his first goal of the season. Denham would gather a loose puck in the slot and quickly get off a shot over Tomkins’ glove hand to make the score 4-1. Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo. / Wenatchee Wild) and David Rigatti (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Texas Tornado) would pick up the assists on Denham’s first goal since the championship game of the 2012 Three Rivers Classic against nationally-ranked Miami.

Less than two minutes later, Colin South (Sewickley, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) would cut RMU’s deficit in half with his first goal of the season. South would collect an outlet pass from Lynch and streak into the offensive zone on the left wing before using an Ohio State defenseman as a screen in front of Tomkins. South’s shot would go under the sliding defenseman and over Tomkins’ right shoulder to make the score 4-2 with sixteen minutes remaining in regulation.

Granted a power play after an Ohio State cross-checking penalty, Lynch would pull Robert Morris to within a goal, 4-3. The initial shot towards the goal came from Tyson Wilson (Brockville, Ontario / Brockville Braves) and was deflected on its way towards the cage by Cody Wydo (Southgate Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets). Wydo’s deflection was wide of the net but right to Lynch who was positioned at the bottom of the left wing circle and quickly tapped the puck behind Tomkins.

Down a goal, Robert Morris would pull Shafer for the final 65 seconds for an extra attacker. The extra skater allowed the Colonials to control the puck in the offensive zone and register three shots on goal. Despite the valiant effort, RMU was unable to complete the comeback before the final buzzer sounded on a 4-3 defeat.

Shafer would finish the game with 37 saves while the defense in front of him sacrificed their bodies for 23 blocked shots. Fourteen Colonials would record a blocked shot in the defeat. Of the Colonials’ 24 shots on goal, Cope led Robert Morris with six shots towards the Ohio State netminder.

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men’s ice hockey team opened action in the inaugural Three Rivers Classic as the Colonials took on Penn State for the second-consecutive game. RMU would advance to the championship game after a 6-0 victory over the Nittany Lions in front of a crowd of 11,663 at the CONSOL Energy Center.

Less than two minutes in to the game, junior defenseman Andrew Blazek (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Topeka Roadrunners) would pick up his fourth goal in eight games this season. After picking off a clearing attempt by Penn State, Blazek would skate in to the offensive zone and through the Penn State defense as he would fire a wrist shot past the glove of the Nittany Lion goalie.

After back-and-forth action for the majority of the period, the Colonials would double their lead as senior forward Adam Brace (Cobden, Ontario / Canisius College) with his sixth goal of the season at the 16:33 mark of the period. Brace would make his way through the slot and go five-hole on the Penn State goalie.

Just 28 seconds later, Robert Morris would expand their advantage to three goals as sophomore Cody Wydo (Southgate, Mich. / Motor City Metal Jackets) corralled a loose puck and picked up his fifth goal of the year.

Wydo’s goal would come after David Friedmann (Toronto, Ontario / Toronto Jr. Canadiens) and Evan Renwick (Calgary, Alberta / Canmore Eagles) worked the puck around the net before it squirted out to the forward.

With 38 seconds remaining in the period, Wydo would pick up his second goal of the contest after crashing the net for to collect a rebound. The goal came off of an initial deflection by Brace who was set up by Renwick as both players picked up their second points in the game.

In the final minute of the second period, Blazek would be involved in a violent collision behind the Robert Morris net. In the opening minutes of the third period, freshman forward Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo. / Wenatchee Wild) would net his first career goal while the Colonials were on the resulting five-minute power play. Cope’s goal at 4:23 would come after he collected a rebound off of a shot by Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) would get the initial shot on the cage after getting a feed from fellow freshman Greg Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Amarillo Bulls).

The Colonials would pick up a sixth goal as assistant captain Tyler Hinds (Orleans, Ontario / Nepean Raiders) would score his second goal of the season at the 15:52 mark of the period. Hinds’ goal would come after Robert Morris worked the puck along the blue line with sophomore Scott Jacklin (Kimberley, British Columbia / Trail Smoke Eaters) and Blazek picking up assists on the goal.

Senior goaltender Eric Levine (Wheeling, Ill. / Pembroke Lumber Kings) would record 48 saves for his third career shutout and second this season. The victory improves Levine to 5-0-2 in his last seven starts while the Colonials are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak. The top line of Wydo, Friedmann, and Brace would combine for three goals and five points in the contest. With a goal and an assist in the victory, Brace now assumes the team lead in points with fourteen (six goals, eight assists). Renwick’s two assists added up to the defenseman’s first career multi-point game. Hinds’ goal in the third period was the first time in the assistant captain’s career that he had recorded a goal in consecutive games.

Head coach Derek Schooley was named the first head coach in Robert Morris history. Since taking over the program, Schooley has coached 41 players who have signed pro contracts, four players that have taken part in NHL training camps and numerous others that have participated in NHL developmental camps and tournaments. Now in his tenth year, Schooley enters the 2013-14 season with a record of 124-156-40 in his first nine seasons at Robert Morris.

Schooley’s teams have provided college hockey and Robert Morris athletics with some major upsets in the past few seasons.

In January of 2007, the Colonials knocked off No.2 Notre Dame 4-2 in South Bend, IN. In 2007-2008, Robert Morris won the prestigious Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage, Alaska with an upset of four-time national champion and 8th ranked Boston University. However Schooley’s signature wins came in 2009-10 season with a sweep against No. 1 ranked Miami. Just three seasons later, Schooley’s Colonials would again knock of a nationally ranked Miami squad; this time it was to capture the inaugural Three Rivers Classic.

During the 2012-13 season, the Colonials would knock off three nationally-ranked teams en route to a 20-win campaign. Two seven-game unbeaten streaks allowed Schooley to guide his squad to a fifth-place regular season finish. After winning the Three Rivers Classic, Schooley and his team earned their second national ranking in program history as the Colonials broke in to the polls as the No. 19 team in the country heading in to January and a nationally televised game against Army. Schooley coached senior Adam Brace to a spot on the All-Atlantic Hockey Second Team while the Colonials were tops in the NCAA in short-handed goals scored.

RMU finished seventh in Atlantic Hockey during the 2011-12 season while boasting the best penalty kill in the nation as the successfully killed off 89.9 percent of their penalties. Schooley coached Cody Crichton to the All-Atlantic Hockey Third Team and Tyson Wilson to the Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team.

Schooley led the Colonials to a banner season in 2010-11 guiding the RMU to a school record 18 wins in a season when the Colonials earned their first national ranking. Robert Morris finished fifth in its first season in the Atlantic Hockey Association and hosted its first ever postseason game in the first round of the AHA Tournament. Schooley coached Nathan Longpre and Denny Urban on the All-Atlantic Hockey first-team and helped Urban to All-American honors from the CollegeHockeyBlog.com.

Schooley also coached goaltender Brooks Ostergard on the third-team all-conference honors.

In the 2009-10 season at Mellon Arena (former home to the Pittsburgh Penguins), Schooley led the Colonials to their first win against a team ranked No. 1 in the nation as Robert Morris defeated Miami (OH) in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase.

The Colonials followed the win up with a trip to Oxford, Ohio and picked up a sweep against the 2009 National Runners-Up. During the 2008-09 campaign, Robert Morris got off to a rough start with a team consisting of only four seniors and 14 underclassmen. However, the Colonials rebounded in the second half of the season with a seven-game unbeaten streak. Their record of 10-19-7 and third place finish in College Hockey America featured a run to the CHA Championship game where Robert Morris lost an overtime heartbreaker to an eventual Frozen Four team, Bemidji State. Five of Schooley’s student-athlete’s earned honors from the CHA as Chris Margott, Nathan Longpre and Denny Urban were named to the All-CHA First Team. Brooks Ostergard and James Lyle also garnered conference laurels as they were All-CHA Rookie Team selections.

In 2007-08, Schooley’s Colonials achieved their first 15 win and .500 season going 15-15-4, once again earning a third-place finish in the CHA. The 07-08 season featured many other firsts for Coach Schooley and the Colonial Hockey program. Senior forward Ryan Cruthers was named 2008 CHA Player of the Year and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, which is awarded annually to college hockey’s most outstanding player. Senior forward, Joel Gasper was named the CHA StudentAthlete of the Year. Besides the two major CHA Awards, the Colonials placed four members on All League teams (Cruthers 1st Team; Chris Margott 2nd Team; Nathan Longpre and Denny Urban on the All-Rookie Team).

Schooley led his team to a 14-19-2 overall record and a third-place finish in the CHA in 2006-07 while placing their first member on a CHA all-league team as Aaron Clarke was named to the All-CHA 2nd Team. The Colonials advanced to the CHA Tournament finals before falling to Alabama-Huntsville, 5-4 in overtime. In 2005-06, the Colonials increased their win total to twelve wins. The Colonials fourth place finish in the CHA included a win at Schooley’s alma mater Western Michigan (CCHA) along with a win against Princeton (ECAC) and the Colonials first ever playoff win over Air Force in the CHA quarterfinals.

Once again, the Colonials placed a member on the CHA All-Rookie Team (Chris Margott). In their inaugural season, the Colonials finished with an 8-21-4 overall record. Schooley and his staff would win their first ever game at Canisius on October 22, 2004 by the score of 3-1. The Colonials would finish in 3rd place at the 2004 Rensselaer Holiday Hockey Tournament with a 4-2 win over Sacred Heart. The Colonials placed two players, Jace Buzek and Chris Kaufman, on the CHA All-Rookie team.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris, Schooley spent five years at the Air Force Academy. He was an Assistant Coach for four years before spending one season as an Associate Head Coach with Air Force. Before arriving at Air Force, Schooley spent a season as an assistant coach with Cornell during the 1997-98 season. Schooley started his coaching career with the Chicago Freeze of the North American Hockey League in 1997 as an assistant coach and director of scouting. Schooley has been a head coach at the USA Hockey Select 14, 15, 16 and 17 Festivals. He also has spoken at numerous USA Hockey youth coaching clinics as well as the USA Hockey Masters Coaching Clinic. In August of 2002, Schooley gained international coaching experience as he was named an assistant coach of the United States Under-18 Select Team, which placed fifth in the Junior World Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Piestany, Slovakia.

Following his graduation from Western Michigan, Schooley played for the Huntington Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) during the 1994-95 season. In 66 games, he scored 18 points and compiled 151 penalty minutes. During the 1995-96 campaign, Schooley spent part of the season with the Blizzard before joining the Flint (Mich.) Generals, where he helped the team to a Colonial Hockey League (CoHL) regular season and playoff championship. A 1994 graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Schooley was a four-year letterwinner as a defenseman with the Broncos. As a senior during the 1993-94 campaign, he tallied 23 assists and scored 27 points in 40 games, earning Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Defensive Player of the Week honors Feb 4, 1994. Also during the 199394 campaign he was given the KOHA Grinder of the Year award and led the Broncos in plus-minus ratio with a +22.
