The Colonials are coming off an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) as senior guard Karvel Anderson led four players in double figures scoring for RMU with 24 points. Anderson tied a Charles L. Sewall Center for threepoint field goals by a Robert Morris student-athlete, finishing 8-for-10 from beyond the arc. Junior forward Lucky Jones registered his first double-double of the 2013-14 season and third of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds against the Mavs, while senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate contributed 10 points and nine assists. Junior guard Charles Oliver added 11 points off the bench for the Colonials. RMU’s four-game road swing that begins Saturday covers three states and 12 days. Robert Morris travels to Buffalo, N.Y., after taking on the Vikings Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. tip against the University at Buffalo Tuesday, Nov. 26, and will also visit Delaware (11/30) and Youngstown State (12/4) during its road trip.

Quick Stat of the Night - It’s early in the 2013-14 season, but the Colonials are showing that on certain nights they have the ability to be an explosive offensive team. RMU snapped a two-game slide with an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) and in each of its three wins this season has eclipse the 85-point plateau, marking the first time Robert Morris has scored at least 85 points in each of its three wins since 1990-91. The Colonials are also 2-1 (.667) so far this when allowing 80 or more points in a game, marking their first two victories under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole when turning the trick. Prior to this season, RMU was 0-13 under Toole when yielding at least 80 points to its opponent. On the other end of the spectrum, the Colonials are 19-1 (.950) under Toole when scoring at least 80 points in a game, with their only loss an 85-82 overtime setback @ LIU Brooklyn (3/9/11) in the 2011 NEC Tournament championship game.

Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marks his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials.

Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 71-38 (.651), including a mark of 39-15 (.722) against Northeast Conference opponents.

In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686). The Colonials claimed their 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778), helping Robert Morris earn its fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In the second round, the Colonials dropped a 77-68 decision at Providence (3/25/13).

In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82.

The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983.

Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris six seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last six years.

Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 141-67 (.678), with the 141 victories both a school and NEC record for a six-year span. RMU’s 141 wins over the last six years is tied with Davidson for eighth among mid-major programs over that span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four and five years.

While RMU's overall success is apparent, the program's accomplishments in the NEC are also clear.

Over the last six years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn.

In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively.

In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., serving as the director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic and Rebounds, a 28,000-square foot facility where high school players focus on development.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.

Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

A Special Night Part Deux - Senior guard Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13), tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marks the second time Anderson has connected for eight threepointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, is the first to turn the trick twice. Anderson heads into a four-game road trip leading Robert Morris in scoring (19.0 ppg) while owning a team-high 22 three-pointers, an average of 4.4 per contest that is tops in the Northeast Conference.

Double Trouble - Lucky Jones is certainly someone who can fill the stat sheet, and the junior forward did just that in an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13). Jones recorded his first double-double of the 2013-14 season and third of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds and also added a career-high four assists and four steals. Jones, RMU’s active leader in both points (749) and rebounds (441), has produced a large portion of his offense so far this season at the free-throw line. Through five games, Jones is 22-for-26 at the stripe, a success rate of 84.6 percent that ranks fourth in the Northeast Conference. Thanks to his early surge at the chalk this season, Jones currently ranks 17th all-time at RMU for career free throws (233) and ninth in career free-throw percentage (.801).

Double Nickel On A Dime - Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate dished out a season-high nine assists in RMU’s 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) to go along with 10 points, and thanks to his performance cracked the top 10 all-time in program history for career dimes. Myers-Pate enters Saturday’s game @ Cleveland State with 340 career assists, which eclipsed former Colonial Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) for 10th all-time at Robert Morris. Through five games of the 2013-14 season, Myers owns 25 assists against just 10 turnovers to rank second in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.50) while ranking third in the circuit in assists per game (5.00). In 106 career contests, Myers-Pate has proven to be a steady ball handler, posting a career 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio.

International Waters - Robert Morris is coming off a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the arc in 2012-13, and the Colonials have picked up right where they left off from a season ago. Through the first five games of the 2013-14 season, RMU has converted 47 of its 119 attempts (39.5 percent) from beyond the arc. While it’s been a balanced attack, senior guard Karvel Anderson leads the Colonials with a team-high 22 field goals from beyond the arc. Robert Morris has drilled at least 11 three-pointers in each of its first three victories of the 2013-14 campaign, helping the Colonials improve to 26-3 (.897) in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a contest.

Big Mac - There may not be another member of the 2013-14 Robert Morris roster playing with more confidence right now than senior forward Mike McFadden. Through RMU’s first five games of the 2013-14 season, McFadden has averaged 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 45.9 percent (17-for-37) from the field. McFadden enters Saturday’s tilt @ Cleveland State with career totals of 687 points and 322 rebounds. He also owns a career shooting percentage of .520 (272-for-523), which is tied for seventh all-time at RMU. In 65 career games with the Colonials after transferring from Iona, however, McFadden’s career field goal percentage is 54.4 percent (216-for-397).

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris earned a 90-81 victory @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in its first road game of the 2013-14 campaign by climbing out of an 11-point deficit in the second half. The Colonials fell behind the Leopards, 59-48, with 14:01 remaining before coming back to tie the score, 70-70, and closing the game 15-6 run to earn the win. It marks the 10th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole.

On The Offensive - Robert Morris entered the 2013-14 campaign with an impressive streak intact, as the Colonials have won 35 consecutive games when shooting 50 percent or better from the field dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last loss for RMU when hitting at least half its shots came in a 92-72 setback @ Pittsburgh (2/2/09), when the Colonials shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47). Under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU is a perfect 20-0 when turning the trick.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK ...

Robert Morris put together its greatest comeback in school history in garnering a 74-72 win over Youngstown State (11/25/08) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Penguins held a 57-34 lead with 16:07 to play, but the Colonials closed the game on a 40-15 run to garner the victory. It marks the largest deficit on record that RMU has ever come back from in its 37-year Division I history. Former guard Bateko Francisco (2007-09) hit a jumper with 2.7 seconds to play that helped lift the Colonials to the win over the Penguins.

WE’RE STREAKING Thanks to an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner (2/9/13), RMU stretched its run of consecutive winning seasons to eight, the longest streak in school history. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, the Colonials own an overall record of 172-92 (.651), including a mark of 104-40 (.722) in the Northeast Conference.

Scouting the Vikings - Cleveland State owns a 2-2 (.500) record entering its game with Robert Morris Saturday at the Wolstein Center and is coming off an 81-69 loss @ Eastern Michigan (11/18/13). Sophomore guard Bryn Forbes leads the Vikings with an average of 20.0 points per game while shooting an even 50 percent (24-for-48) from the field, including 48 percent (12-for-25) from the arc, and a perfect 20-for-20 at the free-throw line. Against Eastern Michigan, Forbes led Cleveland State with 22 points in just 23 minutes of work. The top rebounder for the Vikings is senior forward Jon Harris, who pulls down an average of 6.3 caroms per contest while supplying an average of 8.8 points per game. Cleveland State will wrap up play in the Keightley Classic Monday, Nov. 25, with a 7:00 p.m. tip at Kentucky after taking on the Colonials Saturday afternoon.

Cleveland State Head Coach - The 2013-14 campaign is the seventh season for Gary Waters (Ferris State ’75) as the head coach of the Vikings and his 18th season overall. He owns a career record of 309-237 (.566), including a mark of 138-102 (.575) at Cleveland State. Waters led the Vikings to the 2009 NCAA Tournament as well as appearances in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 2008, 2011 and 2012.

RMU’s Last Game - Senior guard Karvel Anderson tied a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from Robert Morris and the Colonials snapped a two-game slide, Nov. 21, with an 88-81 win over UT Arlington as part of the Keightley Classic. Tied, 6767, with 6:20 to play after Reger Dowell buried a three-pointer to cap a 10-1 UTA surge, RMU scored the next six points of the contest to open up a 73-67 lead with 4:41 to go. Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate scored a layup to give Robert Morris the advantage, while senior forward Mike McFadden buried a pair of jumpers. The lead eventually swelled to 77-69 for the Colonials at the 3:22 mark of the second half after Anderson's eighth three-pointer of the contest, but the Mavericks clawed back. McFadden picked up his fourth foul with 2:57 left and at the same time was whistled for a technical and his fifth foul of the game. Dowell hit both free throws as part of the technical, and Jamel Outler hit a pair at the stripe to pull UT Arlington to within 77-73. The Colonials came up empty on their next possession, and Dowell got inside the lane for the Mavs and converted a layup to make it a one-possession game, 77-75, with 2:23 to go. Anderson turned the ball over on RMU's next possession, but UTA couldn't convert. Junior guard Desjuan Newton came through for Robert Morris, converting a layup from underneath the basket on a feed from Myers-Pate to push the Colonials' advantage to 79-75. Robert Morris sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 9-for-10 at the chalk in the final 1:03 of action. UT Arlington never led in the contest, falling behind, 14-0, in the first three and-a-half minutes as Anderson drilled three consecutive three-pointers early. The Mavericks eventually trimmed their deficit to 28-22 with 8:25 left in the first half thanks to a threepoint play from Dowell, but RMU quickly stretched its lead to double digits and eventually took its biggest lead of the game, 41-26, after an Anderson trifecta at the 3:32 mark of the first half. UT Arlington used a 19-6 run that spanned the final three minutes of the first stanza and the first four and-a-half minutes of the second half to close to within 47-45 but were never able to grab its first lead of the game.

A Special Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history last season in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson is the first student-athlete in school history to post a perfect shooting night from the field with as many as 10 field goals. Since the beginning of the 200708 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 109-22 (.832) when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 58-15 (.795) when turning the trick.

Toole Time - Robert Morris is led by head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in 2013-14. In Toole’s 109 games on the sidelines, RMU has held its opponents to less than 70 points in 73 contests, an amazing 66.9 percent of the time. Included in those 73 contests are 32 holding its opponent to less than 60 points, with Robert Morris owning an astounding mark of 31-1 (.969) in those games. 2013-14 RMU Basketball

Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in the last 28 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2003-04 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.23 three-pointers per contest, ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn (7.06). Guard Karvel Anderson paced Robert Morris by draining 82 three-pointers in 2012-13, a total that ranks sixth in the RMU single-season record book.
