The Colonials opened their road swing and wrapped up play in the Keightley Classic by dropping an 87-74 decision @ Cleveland State (11/23/13). RMU jumped out to a 17-7 lead against the Vikings by hitting seven of its first 10 shots from the field in the first six and-a-half minutes of the contest. However, the Colonials would go cold from the field, going over 10 minutes without a field goal and shooting just 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) the rest of the half as Cleveland State came back to grab a 33-29 halftime advantage en route to the win. Freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem paced Robert Morris against the Vikings, supplying a team-high 16 points and five rebounds off the bench. Worthem was one of three Colonials to reach double figures in scoring @ Cleveland State, as senior guard Karvel Anderson finished with 14 points, while junior forward Lucky Jones registered 13 points. Robert Morris will also visit Delaware (Nov. 26) and Youngstown State (Dec. 4) to wrap up its four-game road trip before welcoming to Toledo to the Charles L. Sewall Center in its next home game Saturday, Dec. 7.

Quick Stat of the Night - Jeremiah Worthem has quickly established himself as one of RMU’s top options off the bench this season, and the freshman forward produced the best game of his young career @ Cleveland State (11/23/13). Worthem paced the Colonials with 16 points, hitting four of his five shots from the field, including his lone attempt from beyond the arc, and also tied for team-high honors in rebounds with five. In two games last week, Worthem averaged 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds, and for those efforts he was tabbed the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Nov. 25, 2013. Worthem enters Tuesday’s game @ Buffalo averaging 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and is showing a penchant for getting to the free-throw line, as he ranks second for Robert Morris in free-throw attempts with 25. He owns a free-throw percentage of 60 percent (15-for-25) but is 11-for-18 (61.1%) on the road.

Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marks his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials.

Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 71-39 (.645), including a mark of 39-15 (.722) against Northeast Conference opponents.

In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686). The Colonials claimed their 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778), helping Robert Morris earn its fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In the second round, the Colonials dropped a 77-68 decision at Providence (3/25/13).

In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82.

The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983.

Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris six seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last six years.

Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 141-67 (.678), with the 141 victories both a school and NEC record for a six-year span. RMU’s 141 wins over the last six years is tied with Davidson for eighth among mid-major programs over that span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four and five years.

While RMU's overall success is apparent, the program's accomplishments in the NEC are also clear.

Over the last six years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn.

In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively.

In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., serving as the director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic and Rebounds, a 28,000-square foot facility where high school players focus on development.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.

Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

A Special Night Part Deux - Senior guard Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13), tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marks the second time Anderson has connected for eight threepointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, is the first to turn the trick twice. Anderson heads into RMU’s tilt Tuesday @ Buffalo leading the Colonials in scoring (18.2 ppg) while owning a team-high 22 three-pointers, an average of 3.67 per contest that is tops in the Northeast Conference.

Double Trouble - Lucky Jones is certainly someone who can fill the stat sheet, and the junior forward did just that in an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13). Jones recorded his first double-double of the 2013-14 season and third of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds and also added a career-high four assists and four steals. Jones, RMU’s active leader in both points (762) and rebounds (444), has produced a large portion of his offense so far this season at the free-throw line. Through six games, Jones is 29-for-34 at the stripe, a success rate of 85.3 percent that ranks fourth in the Northeast Conference. Thanks to his early surge at the chalk this season, Jones currently ranks 17th all-time at RMU for career free throws (240) and ninth in career free-throw percentage (.803).

Double Nickel On A Dime - Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate dished out a season-high nine assists in RMU’s 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) to go along with 10 points, and thanks to his performance cracked the top 10 all-time in program history for career dimes. Myers-Pate enters Tuesday’s game @ Buffalo with 343 career assists, which eclipsed former Colonial Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) for 10th all-time at Robert Morris. Through six games of the 2013-14 season, Myers owns 28 assists against just 11 turnovers to rank second in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.55) while being tied third in the circuit in assists per game (4.67). In 107 career contests, Myers-Pate has proven to be a steady ball handler, posting a career 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio.

International Waters - Robert Morris is coming off a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the arc in 2012-13, and the Colonials have picked up right where they left off from a season ago. Through the first six games of the 2013-14 season, RMU has converted 52 of its 137 attempts (38 percent) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris enters Tuesday’s game @ Buffalo leading the Northeast Conference in three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals made per game (8.70). Robert Morris has drilled at least 11 three-pointers in each of its first three victories of the 2013-14 campaign, helping the Colonials improve to 26-3 (.897) in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a contest.

Big Mac - There may not be another member of the 2013-14 Robert Morris roster playing with more confidence right now than senior forward Mike McFadden. Through RMU’s first six games of the 2013-14 season, McFadden has averaged 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent (20-for-46) from the field. McFadden enters Tuesday’s tilt @ Buffalo with career totals of 694 points and 325 rebounds. He also owns a career shooting percentage of .517 (275-for-532), which is tied for eighth all-time at RMU. In 66 career games with the Colonials after transferring from Iona, however, McFadden’s career field goal percentage is 53.9 percent (219-for-406).

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris earned a 90-81 victory @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in its first road game of the 2013-14 campaign by climbing out of an 11-point deficit in the second half. The Colonials fell behind the Leopards, 59-48, with 14:01 remaining before coming back to tie the score, 70-70, and closing the game 15-6 run to earn the win. It marks the 10th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole.

On The Offensive - Robert Morris entered the 2013-14 campaign with an impressive streak intact, as the Colonials have won 35 consecutive games when shooting 50 percent or better from the field dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last loss for RMU when hitting at least half its shots came in a 92-72 setback @ Pittsburgh (2/2/09), when the Colonials shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47). Under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU is a perfect 20-0 when turning the trick.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK ...

Robert Morris put together its greatest comeback in school history in garnering a 74-72 win over Youngstown State (11/25/08) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Penguins held a 57-34 lead with 16:07 to play, but the Colonials closed the game on a 40-15 run to garner the victory. It marks the largest deficit on record that RMU has ever come back from in its 37-year Division I history. Former guard Bateko Francisco (2007-09) hit a jumper with 2.7 seconds to play that helped lift the Colonials to the win over the Penguins.

WE’RE STREAKING Thanks to an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner (2/9/13), RMU stretched its run of consecutive winning seasons to eight, the longest streak in school history. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, the Colonials own an overall record of 172-92 (.651), including a mark of 104-40 (.722) in the Northeast Conference.

The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. Scouting the Bulls - Following a 10-day break, Buffalo returns to the court Tuesday to hosts Robert Morris sporting an overall record of 1-2 (.333). The Bulls are coming off an 80-60 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan (11/16/13), which opened a five-game homestand.

Senior forward Javon McCrea finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds in Buffalo’s win over West Virginia Wesleyan and through three games this season has supplied the Bulls with teamhigh averages in both scoring (21.3 ppg) and rebounding (11.0 rpg). McCrea also shoots 51.4 percent (19-for-37) from the field and 68.4 percent (26-for-38) at the free-throw line. Also averaging in double figures for Buffalo in the early going of the 2013-14 campaign is senior guard Joshua Freelove and junior forward Xavier Ford. Freelove averages 13.0 points per contest, while Ford scores at a 10.0 points per game clip.

Buffalo Head Coach - One of the most iconic figures in college basketball history, Bobby Hurley (Duke ’93) is in his first season as head coach at the University at Buffalo. In his first season as a head coach, Hurley is the 12th head coach in Buffalo history and joined UB after serving a season as the associate head coach at Rhode Island. Hurley led Duke to three Final Four appearances and consecutive national championships in 1991 and 1992.

RMU’s Last Game - Robert Morris concluded play in the Keigthley Classic, Nov. 23, and opened a four-game road trip with an 87-74 loss to Cleveland State at the Wolstein Center. The Colonials opened the game on fire, converting seven of their first 10 shots from the field in building a 17-7 lead at the 13:50 mark of the first half. Senior forward Mike McFadden contributed seven points during the opening salvo, while freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem scored five points. Despite the double-digit advantage, Robert Morris would go over 10 minutes without a field goal, allowing Cleveland State to grab 29-22 edge thanks to a 22-5 surge. Senior guard Karvel Anderson snapped RMU's drought without a field goal thanks to a jumper with 2:37 to play in the first half, and the Colonials outscored the Vikings, 7-4, the rest of the stanza to close to within 33-29 at intermission. Robert Morris couldn’t sustain the momentum at the start of the second half, as Cleveland State grabbed its first double-digit advantage, 39-29, thanks to a three-pointer from Charlie Lee with 19:17 to play. The biggest advantage of the contest for the Vikings came with 14:17 remaining, when Lee converted another three-pointer to give Cleveland State a 53-35 cushion. The Colonials responded with a 19-6 run that helped RMU close its deficit to 59-54 as junior guard Charles Oliver hit a pair of three-pointers and Anderson scored four points. Cleveland State weathered the surge by Robert Morris, however, pushing its lead to 71-58 after Marlin Mason hit a three-pointer with 5:50 to go. The Colonials were able to whittle their lead to 71-62 at the 5:05 mark of the second when sophomore forward Stephan Hawkins converted a tip-in, but the Vikings kept RMU at bay by converting at the free-throw line. In the final 45 seconds, Cleveland State finished 6-for-6 at the stripe.

Worthem paced the Colonials with 16 points, converting four of his five shots from the field, including his lone attempt from beyond the arc, and going 7-for-12 at the free-throw line. He also tied for team-high honors with five rebounds. Anderson added 14 points despite going 0-for-6 from beyond the arc, and junior forward Lucky Jones finished with 13 points on the strength of a 7-for-8 showing at the stripe.

A Special Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history last season in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson is the first student-athlete in school history to post a perfect shooting night from the field with as many as 10 field goals. Anderson is also just the second student-athlete in school history to convert eight field goals from beyond the arc without a miss. Since the beginning of the 200708 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 109-22 (.832) when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 58-15 (.795) when turning the trick.

Toole Time - Robert Morris is led by head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in 2013-14. In Toole’s 110 games on the sidelines, RMU has held its opponents to less than 70 points in 73 contests, an amazing 66.4 percent of the time. Included in those 73 contests are 32 holding its opponent to less than 60 points, with Robert Morris owning an astounding mark of 31-1 (.969) in those games. Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in the last 28 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2003-04 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.23 three-pointers per contest, ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn (7.06). Guard Karvel Anderson paced Robert Morris by draining 82 three-pointers in 2012-13, a total that ranks sixth in the RMU single-season record book.
