Top Story - The Robert Morris University men’s basketball team concludes play in the 2011 Philly Hoop Group Classic Sunday with a 5:00 p.m. tip against No. 16 Pittsburgh at the Petersen Events Center. The Colonials own a record of 2-1 in the tournament after a 51-44 victory over La Salle (11/25/11) in a neutral site game at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. RMU held the Explorers to a shooting percentage of just 31.9 percent (15-for-47) in pulling out the win. Redshirt junior guard Velton Jones led Robert Morris for the fourth straight game in scoring with 14 points against La Salle and is averaging 22.7 points per contest in three games of the 2011 Philly Hoop Group Classic, while redshirt junior forward Russell Johnson added 12 points, seven rebounds, a block and a steal against the Explorers. The Colonials return home to the Charles L. Sewall Center to begin Northeast Conference play after taking on the Panthers, welcoming Fairleigh Dickinson for a 7:00 p.m. tip Thursday, Dec. 1. RMU will also host Monmouth in a 7:00 p.m. tip Saturday, Dec. 3.

Quick Stat of the Night - If anything, Robert Morris has proven to be extremely efficient on the glass in the early portion of the 2011-12 campaign. The Colonials enter their tilt Sunday @ Pittsburgh having posted a margin of +25 on the glass in their last two games, victories @ James Madison (11/22/11) and against La Salle (11/25/11) at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. It marks RMU’s largest rebounding margin in back-to-back games since the Colonials finished +27 on the glass in a 72-67 win @ Youngstown State (12/30/09) and in an 81-79 victory over Ohio (1/2/10). So far it’s been a balanced attack on the glass for Robert Morris, as six Colonials average between 3.0 and 6.4 caroms per contest.
