The Colonials, who have dropped four of their last five games, are coming off an 81-66 setback @ Buffalo (11/26/13). The Bulls led, 53-52, with 11:23 to go, but were able to pull away thanks to a 25-6 surge that opened up a 78-58 advantage en route to the win. Four players scored in double figures for RMU, led by junior forward Lucky Jones, who finished with a season-high 19 points and added eight rebounds and three assists. Freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem contributed 13 points and four boards off the bench, while senior guard Karvel Anderson recorded 11 points, two blocks and three steals. Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate chipped in with 10 points and three assists. Robert Morris closes out its four-game road swing after taking on the Blue Hens Saturday by traveling to Youngstown, Ohio, for a 7:45 p.m. tip against Youngstown State at the Beeghly Center Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Quick Stat of the Night - Robert Morris has established itself as one of the top mid-major programs in the country in the last six seasons in large part because of its ability to defend. As the Colonials continue a four-game road trip Saturday @ Delaware, RMU will look to get back into that defensive mindset. Robert Morris enters its game Saturday having allowed each of its last four opponents to eclipse the 80-point plateau, allowing an average of 84.0 points per game. It marks the first time opponents have scored at least 80 points in four straight games against the Colonials since the 1994-95 campaign, when six of RMU’s last seven opponents, including five straight at one point, turned the trick. In all, five opponents have scored at least 80 points against Robert Morris so far this year. To put that in perspective, in Andrew Toole’s first three years as head coach of the Colonials, a span of 104 games, just 13 opponents accomplished the feat.

Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marks his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials.

Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 71-40 (.640), including a mark of 39-15 (.722) against Northeast Conference opponents.

In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686). The Colonials claimed their 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778), helping Robert Morris earn its fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In the second round, the Colonials dropped a 77-68 decision at Providence (3/25/13).

In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82.

The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983.

Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris six seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last six years.

Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 141-67 (.678), with the 141 victories both a school and NEC record for a six-year span. RMU’s 141 wins over the last six years is tied with Davidson for eighth among mid-major programs over that span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four and five years.

While RMU's overall success is apparent, the program's accomplishments in the NEC are also clear.

Over the last six years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn.

In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively.

In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., serving as the director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic and Rebounds, a 28,000-square foot facility where high school players focus on development.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.

Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

Worthy Addition - Freshman take time to develop, but for Robert Morris, forward Jeremiah Worthem could possibly be coming of age in the midst of RMU’s four-game road swing. The reigning Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week (11/25/13), Worthem has averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in the first two games of the current road trip for the Colonials. In those two games he has converted 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of his shots from the field and is showing a penchant for getting to free-throw line, owning 16 attempts at the stripe in the last two games, converting 10 (62.5 percent). Overall on the season Worthem is supplying RMU with averages of 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

A Special Night Part Deux - Senior guard Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13), tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marks the second time Anderson has connected for eight threepointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, is the first to turn the trick twice. Anderson heads into RMU’s tilt Saturday @ Delaware leading the Colonials in scoring (17.1 ppg) while owning a team-high 22 three-pointers, an average of 3.14 per contest that is tops in the Northeast Conference.

Double Trouble - Lucky Jones is certainly someone who can fill the stat sheet, and the junior forward did just that in an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13). Jones recorded his first double-double of the 2013-14 season and third of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds and also added a career-high four assists and four steals. Jones, RMU’s active leader in both points (781) and rebounds (452), has produced a large portion of his offense so far this season at the free-throw line. Through seven games, Jones is 33-for-40 at the stripe, a success rate of 82.5 percent that ranks sixth in the Northeast Conference. Thanks to his early surge at the chalk this season, Jones currently ranks 17th all-time at RMU for career free throws (240) and tied for ninth in career free-throw percentage (.800).

Double Nickel On A Dime - Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate dished out a season-high nine assists in RMU’s 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) to go along with 10 points, and thanks to his performance cracked the top 10 all-time in program history for career dimes. Myers-Pate enters Saturday’s game @ Delaware with 346 career assists, which eclipsed former Colonial Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) for 10th all-time at Robert Morris.

Through seven games of the 2013-14 season, Myers owns 31 assists against just 13 turnovers to rank third in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.38) while being tied fourth in the circuit in assists per game (4.43). In 108 career contests, Myers-Pate has proven to be a steady ball handler, posting a career 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio.

International Waters - Robert Morris is coming off a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the arc in 2012-13, and the Colonials have picked up right where they left off from a season ago. Through the first seven games of the 2013-14 season, RMU has converted 56 of its 154 attempts (36.4 percent) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris enters Saturday’s game @ Delaware leading the Northeast Conference in three-point field goal percentage and three-point field goals made per game (8.00). Robert Morris has drilled at least 11 three-pointers in each of its first three victories of the 2013-14 campaign, helping the Colonials improve to 26-3 (.897) in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a contest.

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris earned a 90-81 victory @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in its first road game of the 2013-14 campaign by climbing out of an 11-point deficit in the second half. The Colonials fell behind the Leopards, 59-48, with 14:01 remaining before coming back to tie the score, 70-70, and closing the game 15-6 run to earn the win. It marks the 10th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole.

On The Offensive - Robert Morris entered the 2013-14 campaign with an impressive streak intact, as the Colonials have won 35 consecutive games when shooting 50 percent or better from the field dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last loss for RMU when hitting at least half its shots came in a 92-72 setback @ Pittsburgh (2/2/09), when the Colonials shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47). Under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU is a perfect 20-0 when turning the trick.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK ...

Robert Morris put together its greatest comeback in school history in garnering a 74-72 win over Youngstown State (11/25/08) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Penguins held a 57-34 lead with 16:07 to play, but the Colonials closed the game on a 40-15 run to garner the victory. It marks the largest deficit on record that RMU has ever come back from in its 37-year Division I history. Former guard Bateko Francisco (2007-09) hit a jumper with 2.7 seconds to play that helped lift the Colonials to the win over the Penguins.

WE’RE STREAKING Thanks to an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner (2/9/13), RMU stretched its run of consecutive winning seasons to eight, the longest streak in school history. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, the Colonials own an overall record of 172-92 (.651), including a mark of 104-40 (.722) in the Northeast Conference.

The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. It marks the fourth time in the last six seasons that the Colonials have paced the circuit in steals, as RMU also led the league in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2011-12. Scouting the Blue Hens - Delaware enters Saturday’s game with Robert Morris sporting an overall record of 3-3 (.500) and looks to go over .500 for the first time on the 2013-14 campaign.

The Blue Hens are coming off an 80-70 victory over Delaware State (11/25/13) and are led by senior guard Davon Usher, who averages 19.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Jarvis Threatt adds averages of 16.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest and owns 35 assists (5.8 per game), while senior guard Kyle Andeson contributes 14.7 points per game while shooting 51.2 percent (22-for-43) from beyond the arc. As a team Delaware averages 83.5 points per contest, having reached the 80-point plateau in each of its last five games.

Delaware Head Coach - In his eighth season as head coach at Delaware is Monté Ross (Winston Salem State ’92), who owns a career record of 93-134 (.410). Ross led the Blue Hens to an overall record of 19-14 (.576) last season and second place in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) thanks to a league mark of 13-5 (.722). It marked program highs for UD since joining the CAA, and the Blue Hens advanced to the semifinals of the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2002-03.

RMU’s Last Game - Javon McCrea led five players in double figures as Buffalo used a 25-6 run in the second half to pull away from Robert Morris, Nov. 26, for an 81-66 victory at Alumni Arena. Knotted, 38-38, entering the second half, Buffalo grabbed a 51-46 edge after Justin Moss converted the front end of a pair of free throws at the 13:57 mark. RMU would climb back, as a layup from junior guard Desjuan Newton and a pair of layups from senior guard Karvel Anderson closed the deficit for the Colonials to 53-52. Shannon Evans ignited the deciding surge for the Bulls with a three-pointer, and Joshua Freelove scored seven points during a run that stretched a one-point lead to 78-58 with 3:34 to play. Buffalo was bolstered by a 25-for-39 (64.1 percent) performance at the free-throw line, the fourth time in five road games a Robert Morris opponent has visited the stripe at least 30 times. The first half featured eight ties and 14 lead changes, with the Colonials grabbing a 25-16 lead thanks to their own work at the chalk. Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate was fouled going to the basket with 9:55 to go in the first half by Will Regan, and after sinking his first free throw, the Buffalo bench was assessed a technical. Anderson hit a pair at the line before Myers-Pate stepped back in to finish his pair and give RMU a nine-point cushion. The technical seemed to spark the Bulls, as a 100 run that featured five points from Jarod Oldham pushed Buffalo back in front, 26-25. Robert Morris weathered the surge and eventually grabbed a 32-30 lead on a three-pointer from Newton, but Buffalo came back to take a 38-34 advantage with 2:47 left before halftime on a layup by Evans. The Colonials were able to send the game tied into intermission thanks to a jumper from Myers-Pate and a pair of free throws from junior guard Charles Oliver but couldn't get over the hump in the second half. Junior forward Lucky Jones scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the first half and also added eight rebounds and three assists to pace RMU. Freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem added 13 points and four boards off the bench, while Anderson finished with 11 points and three steals. Myers-Pate also reached double figures in scoring for the Colonials with 10 points.

A Special Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history last season in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Anderson is the first student-athlete in school history to post a perfect shooting night from the field with as many as 10 field goals. Anderson is also just the second student-athlete in school history to convert eight field goals from beyond the arc without a miss. Since the beginning of the 200708 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 109-22 (.832) when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 58-15 (.795) when turning the trick.

Toole Time - Robert Morris is led by head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in 2013-14. In Toole’s 111 games on the sidelines, RMU has held its opponents to less than 70 points in 73 contests, an amazing 65.8 percent of the time. Included in those 73 contests are 32 holding its opponent to less than 60 points, with Robert Morris owning an astounding mark of 31-1 (.969) in those games. Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in the last 28 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2003-04 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.23 three-pointers per contest, ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn (7.06). Guard Karvel Anderson paced Robert Morris by draining 82 three-pointers in 2012-13, a total that ranks sixth in the RMU single-season record book.
