The Colonials have dropped three straight after suffering an 86-67 loss @ Delaware (11/30/13) and have also lost five straight on the road since posting a 90-81 win @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in their first road contest of the 2013-14 season. Against the Blue Hens, senior guard Karvel Anderson paced RMU with a season-high 25 points, converting 10 of his 16 shots from the field, including a 5-for-9 performance from beyond the arc. Anderson tied a career high in field goals @ Delaware, played a career-high 35 minutes and also recorded three rebounds, a block and a steal. The only other player from Robert Morris to reach double figures in scoring against the Blue Hens was senior forward Mike McFadden, who scored 11 points in the second half. The Colonials return home to the Charles L. Sewall Center after taking on the Penguins Wednesday by hosting Toledo Saturday, Dec. 7, in a 4:00 p.m. tilt.

Quick Stat of the Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson has been RMU’s main offensive force in the early going of the 2013-14 season, averaging 18.2 points per contest through the first eight games of the season. It’s the hottest start by a member of Colonials since former forward A.J. Jackson (2003-08) averaged 19.4 points over RMU’s first eight games of the 2006-07 campaign.

Anderson has done the majority of his damage for Robert Morris from beyond the three-point arc, as he leads the Northeast Conference and enters the week ranked 19th in NCAA Division I in three-point field goals made per game at 3.38. Anderson is on pace to finish the regular season with 105 three-pointers, which would establish a new single-season record, eclipsing the mark of 93 set by former guard Scott Shepherd (1988-91) in 1988-89. In 41 career contests at RMU, Anderson owns 109 three-pointers, an average of 2.66 per game that is tops in the record book.

Head Coach Andrew Toole Fourth Season - Penn ’03 When it came time for Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., to name a new head coach for the men’s basketball program, he didn’t have to look far.

Andrew Toole was introduced as the eighth head coach in the 38-year Division I history at a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center May 11, 2010, and the 2013-14 campaign marks his fourth season as head coach of the Colonials.

Toole signed a three-year contract extension at Robert Morris May 3, 2013, meaning he will lead the Colonials through the 2017-18 campaign. In four seasons under Toole’s tutelage, the Colonials have posted an overall record of 71-41 (.634), including a mark of 39-15 (.722) against Northeast Conference opponents.

In 2012-13, Toole led RMU to an overall record of 24-11 (.686). The Colonials claimed their 10th NEC regular-season championship with a ledger of 14-4 (.778), helping Robert Morris earn its fifth postseason appearance in the last six years. RMU earned a spot in the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), advancing to the second round thanks to a 59-57 victory over Kentucky (3/19/13) in front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center, the largest crowd in school history. In the second round, the Colonials dropped a 77-68 decision at Providence (3/25/13).

In his first season at the helm in 2010-11, Toole guided RMU to an overall record of 18-14 (.563), including a mark of 12-6 (.667) in the NEC. The Colonials advanced to the championship game of the NEC Tournament, falling three minutes shy of earning its third straight title before falling in overtime at LIU Brooklyn, 85-82.

The following season in 2011-12, Robert Morris posted an overall record of 26-11 (.703), including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the NEC. RMU tied a school record for victories, advanced to its fourth straight NEC Tournament championship game and earned its inaugural berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). In the 2012 CIT, the Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to road wins at Indiana State and Toledo, marking the program’s first victories in a national postseason tournament since 1983.

Overall, Toole has been at Robert Morris six seasons. He spent the 2007-08 campaign as an assistant under former head coach Mike Rice (2007-10) before being elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. He is at the helm of an RMU program that has experienced unprecedented success over the last six years.

Since the beginning of the 2007-08 season, Robert Morris owns an overall record of 141-67 (.678), with the 141 victories both a school and NEC record for a six-year span. RMU’s 141 wins over the last six years is tied with Davidson for eighth among mid-major programs over that span, and the Colonials also own NEC records for victories over the span of three, four and five years.

While RMU's overall success is apparent, the program's accomplishments in the NEC are also clear.

Over the last six years, the Colonials have posted a mark of 85-23 (.787) against league opposition, having finished no lower than third over that span. Robert Morris won outright NEC regular-season titles in 2008, 2009 and 2013 and shared the title in 2010 with Quinnipiac.

RMU followed up its success in the regular season by becoming the first team in NEC history in 16 years to win back-to-back NEC Tournament championships by earning a 52-50 win over Quinnipiac in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game in Hamden, Conn.

In 2008, the Colonials made their first appearance in the NIT, dropping an 87-81 decision to No. 1 overall seed Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In both 2009 and 2010, RMU earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament thanks to winning its sixth and seventh NEC Tournament championships, respectively.

In the 2009 NCAA Tournament, the Colonials fell to eventual national runner-up Michigan State, 77-62, in the first round at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova in the first round at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.

Prior to coming to Robert Morris in 2007, Toole spent the 2006-07 season as an assistant at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Between 2004 and 2006, Toole spent two years with The Hoop Group in Neptune, N.J., serving as the director of the Eastern Invitational Basketball Clinic and Rebounds, a 28,000-square foot facility where high school players focus on development.

Toole was a four-year starter at the Division I level, playing for Elon University (1998-2000) before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania (2000-03). Over his four-year career at Elon and Penn, Toole averaged 12.3 points per contest, finishing with 1,341 points in 109 games. He also posted averages of 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.

Toole married the former Brooke Kelly June 3, 2011, and the couple resides in the Pittsburgh, Pa., suburb of Mt. Lebanon with their son, Ryan.

Worthy Addition - Freshman forward Jeremiah Worthem earned the first start of his career @ Delaware (11/30/13), supplying the Colonials with six points and five rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Despite struggling with his shot against the Blue Hens, Worthem has been RMU’s most consistent player during its four-game road trip, averaging 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in the last three games while shooting 50 percent (11-for-22) from the field and 61.1 percent (11-for-18) at the free-throw line. Worthem, who was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week Nov. 25, 2013, enters Wednesday’s tilt @ Youngstown State averaging 7.9 points and 4.3 rebounds overall on the season.

A Special Night Part Deux - Senior guard Karvel Anderson added to his legacy as one of the best three-point shooters in school history in an 88-81 win over UT Arlington (11/21/13), tying a Charles L. Sewall Center record for three-pointers by a student-athlete from RMU with eight. Anderson finished 8-for-10 from beyond the arc against the Mavericks en route to a team-high 24 points. It marks the second time Anderson has connected for eight threepointers in a game at “The Chuck,” as he also accomplished the feat in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12). Anderson, one of six Colonials in school history to bury eight three-point field goals in a game at the Sewall Center, is the first to turn the trick twice. Anderson heads into RMU’s tilt Wednesday @ Youngstown State leading the Colonials in scoring (18.2 ppg) while owning a team-high 27 three-pointers, an average of 3.38 per contest that is tops in the Northeast Conference.

Double Trouble - Lucky Jones is certainly someone who can fill the stat sheet, and the junior forward did just that in an 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13). Jones recorded his first double-double of the 2013-14 season and third of his career with 15 points and 10 rebounds and also added a career-high four assists and four steals. Jones, RMU’s active leader in both points (789) and rebounds (457), has produced a large portion of his offense so far this season at the free-throw line. Through eight games, Jones is 33-for-40 at the stripe, a success rate of 82.5 percent that ranks fourth in the Northeast Conference. Thanks to his early surge at the chalk this season, Jones currently ranks 17th all-time at RMU for career free throws (240) and tied for ninth in career free-throw percentage (.800).

Double Nickel On A Dime - Senior guard Anthony Myers-Pate dished out a season-high nine assists in RMU’s 88-81 victory over UT Arlington (11/21/13) to go along with 10 points, and thanks to his performance cracked the top 10 all-time in program history for career dimes. Myers-Pate enters Wednesday’s game @ Youngstown State with 347 career assists, which eclipsed former Colonial Jeremy Chappell (2005-09) for 10th all-time at Robert Morris. Through eight games of the 2013-14 season, Myers owns 32 assists against 16 turnovers to rank tied for fourth in the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.00) while ranking seventh in the circuit in assists per game (4.00). In 109 career contests, MyersPate has proven to be a steady ball handler, posting a career 1.85 assist-to-turnover ratio.

International Waters - Robert Morris is coming off a record-breaking season in shooting from beyond the arc in 2012-13, and the Colonials have picked up right where they left off from a season ago. Through the first seven games of the 2013-14 season, RMU has converted 63 of its 171 attempts (36.8 percent) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris enters Wednesday’s tilt @ Youngstown State leading the Northeast Conference in three-point field goal percentage while ranking third in three-point field goals made per game (7.88).

Robert Morris has drilled at least 11 three-pointers in each of its first three victories of the 2013-14 campaign, helping the Colonials improve to 26-3 (.897) in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole when converting at least 10 three-pointers in a contest.

Comeback Kids - Robert Morris earned a 90-81 victory @ Lafayette (11/12/13) in its first road game of the 2013-14 campaign by climbing out of an 11-point deficit in the second half. The Colonials fell behind the Leopards, 59-48, with 14:01 remaining before coming back to tie the score, 70-70, and closing the game 15-6 run to earn the win. It marks the 10th time RMU has climbed out of a double-digit deficit to earn a victory in four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole.

On The Offensive - Robert Morris entered the 2013-14 campaign with an impressive streak intact, as the Colonials have won 35 consecutive games when shooting 50 percent or better from the field dating back to the 2008-09 season. The last loss for RMU when hitting at least half its shots came in a 92-72 setback @ Pittsburgh (2/2/09), when the Colonials shot 57.4 percent (27-for-47). Under fourth-year head coach Andrew Toole, RMU is a perfect 20-0 when turning the trick.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK ...

Robert Morris put together its greatest comeback in school history in garnering a 74-72 win over Youngstown State (11/25/08) at the Charles L. Sewall Center. The Penguins held a 57-34 lead with 16:07 to play, but the Colonials closed the game on a 40-15 run to garner the victory. It marks the largest deficit on record that RMU has ever come back from in its 37-year Division I history. Former guard Bateko Francisco (2007-09) hit a jumper with 2.7 seconds to play that helped lift the Colonials to the win over the Penguins.

WE’RE STREAKING Thanks to an 83-79 overtime victory over Wagner (2/9/13), RMU stretched its run of consecutive winning seasons to eight, the longest streak in school history. Since the beginning of the 2005-06 campaign, the Colonials own an overall record of 172-92 (.651), including a mark of 104-40 (.722) in the Northeast Conference.

The Colonials earned a 91-38 victory over Bryant (2/3/11) at the Charles L. Sewall Center to not only establish a new school record in an NEC game but also tie the league mark. Scouting the Penguins - Youngstown State carries an overall record of 6-3 (.667) entering its game with Robert Morris Wednesday and is coming off an 88-86 setback at home to Austin Peay. Senior guard Kendrick Perry scored a game-high 32 points against the Governors, hitting eight of his 17 shots from the field, including 3-of-9 from beyond the arc, while also going 13-for-16 at the free-throw line. He also recorded four rebounds, four assists and six steals.

On the 2013-14 campaign Perry leads the Penguins in scoring (18.7 ppg), assists (42) and steals (29) and is shooting 48.7 percent (55-for-113) from the field and 82.7 percent (43for-52) from the chalk. Perry is one of five players to average in double figures scoring for YSU, as sophomore forward Bobby Hain scores at an 11.0 points per game clip while grabbing a team-high average of 7.8 rebounds per contest. Senior forward Kamren Belin supplies Youngstown State with averages of 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while sophomore forward Ryan Weber contributes 10.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Youngstown State Head Coach - The 2013-14 campaign is the ninth season for Jerry Slocum (The Kings College ’75) as head coach of the Penguins and 39th year overall. He enters Wednesday’s game with an overall record of 679-478 (.587), including a mark of 98-154 (.389) with YSU. Prior to Youngstown State, Slocum posted a record of 202-81 (.714) in nine years as head coach of Gannon from 1996-2005. He ranks sixth all-time in college basketball history with 679 victories and recently surpassed Denny Crum, who compiled 675 career wins.

He also ranks sixth among active Division I head coaches all-time in victories.

RMU’s Last Game - Robert Morris suffered its third consecutive defeat, Nov. 30, dropping an 86-67 decision to Delaware at the Bob Carpenter Center. UD never trailed in the contest, jumping out to leads of 13-4 and 15-6 in the first six minutes of action before taking its first double-digit lead, 18-7, at the 11:33 mark of the first half thanks to a layup from Davon Usher. RMU was able to rally behind the shooting of senior guard Karvel Anderson, as he scored 12 points during a 16-7 surge that closed the deficit for the Colonials to 25-23 with five minutes left before the break. The Blue Hens were able to slow down Robert Morris and answered with an 11-4 spurt to close out the first half and take a 36-27 advantage into intermission.

On two occasions in the first five minutes of the second half the Colonials trimmed their deficit to four, including 45-41 with 15:37 to play after a layup from junior forward Lucky Jones.

Delaware answered with a deciding run, outscoring RMU, 23-9, over an eight-minute stretch to open up a 68-50 lead with 7:16 to play. Offensively the Blue Hens featured a balanced attack, as guard Jarvis Threatt scored 24 points, while Usher added 22 points. Threatt also finished with five assists, while Usher registered five steals. Combined, the duo of Threatt and Usher finished 23-for-29 (79.3 percent) at the free-throw line as Delaware visited the stripe 37 times in the contest, converting 28 (75.7 percent). Carl Baptiste also added a double-double for UD with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Anderson took home game-high honors in scoring with 25 points, converting 10 of his 16 shots from the floor, including 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. He also added three rebounds, a block and a steal. Senior forward Mike McFadden was the only other player from Robert Morris to reach double figures, scoring all 11 of his points in the second half.

A Special Night - Senior guard Karvel Anderson put forth arguably the most impressive shooting display in school history last season in an 84-76 win over Ohio (12/1/12) at the Charles L. Sewall Center, hitting all 10 of his shots from the floor in the victory, including 8-for-8 from beyond the arc. Since the beginning of the 200708 campaign, Robert Morris owns a record of 109-22 (.832) when holding its opponent to less than 70 points. In four seasons under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 58-15 (.795) when turning the trick.

Toole Time - Robert Morris is led by head coach Andrew Toole, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the program in 2013-14. In Toole’s 112 games on the sidelines, RMU has held its opponents to less than 70 points in 73 contests, an amazing 65.2 percent of the time. Included in those 73 contests are 32 holding its opponent to less than 60 points, with Robert Morris owning an astounding mark of 31-1 (.969) in those games. Robert Morris celebrated its 25th season of playing its home games at the Charles L. Sewall Center in 2009-10. The facility was dedicated in 1985 and named for the man who served Robert Morris as president from 1967 until 1989.

The Sewall Center has been the site where the Northeast Conference Tournament champion has been crowned in men’s basketball a total of five times in the last 28 years, with the Colonials winning four of those titles. RMU won the NEC Tournament on its home court in 1989, 1990, 1992 and 2009, while in 1986 No. 2 seed Marist won the championship with a 57-56 win over No. 1 seed Fairleigh Dickinson.

The 2009 NEC Tournament men's basketball championship game held at the Sewall Center featured the first sell-out crowd in school history, with 3,227 fans packed into the arena to watch Robert Morris post a 48-46 win over Mount St. Mary’s that was televised nationally on ESPN2. Former forward Dallas Green (2006-10) hit the game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds to play to help lift the Colonials to their sixth NEC Tournament title. In addition, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team claimed back-to-back NEC Tournament championships at the Sewall Center in 2007 and 2008.

The Need for Three Over the course of the last decade, converting the three-point shot and Robert Morris has become synonymous. Despite having its string of consecutive seasons with at least 200 three-pointers snapped at six by finishing with 197 in 2009-10, the Colonials are at the top of the Northeast Conference over the last 10 years in three-point field goals made per game. Since the start of the 2003-04 campaign, the Colonials have averaged 7.23 three-pointers per contest, ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn (7.06). Guard Karvel Anderson paced Robert Morris by draining 82 three-pointers in 2012-13, a total that ranks sixth in the RMU single-season record book.
